So that's it from the comm box folks. Like always it was a pleasure bringing you the live commentary and match updates for the 8th BBL game. Hoping to come back tomorrow and witness and closer encounter. Till tomorrow, tata from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty, Akshay Bhide and Sourya Chowdhury.
Peter Siddle: Disappointing with the way we started, we got the first game out of the way, lot more improved tonight, still got a work on, but good improvement. I probably enjoyed a bit more tonight with not having to worry about the captaincy. It helped my bowling. Nice night, great to contribute.
Peter Siddle is the KFC Player of the Match courtesy an astonishing spell of 5/16 in 3.3 overs
Arya: Ingram after smacking 46 of 35 deliveries fell off the bowling of Wes Agar and yet again the Strikers bowlers tightened their screws on the Hurricanes. They kept chipping away with wickets and Peter Siddle in particular was quite exceptional. He finished off the innings with back to back wickets in the final two deliveries of the innings to restrict the Hurricanes to a score of 146 runs in 19.3 overs. It was the first time that Siddle picked up a fifer in the BBL.
Arya: In came Ben McDermott and Colin Ingram who slowly but steadily started the rebuilding job. McDermott in particular was severe on Matt Renshaw and on occasions to Rashid Khan. He struck some lusty blows and his partnership with Ingram gave them some sort of momentum. The duo shared a well constructed 75 runs partnership before McDermott was bamboozled by Rashid Khan.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Adelaide Strikers skipper Alex Carey who made a comeback in this match won the toss and put the Hobart Hurricanes in. The pitch was very lively from the outset and the Strikers bowlers made life very difficult for the Hurricanes top order. Daniel Worrall made an impressive start with a wicket in the 4th delivery of the match in the form of Will Jacks. Peter Siddle joined in when he removed D’Arcy Short in the next over and the dismissal of Peter Handscomb by Wes Agar in the 4th delivery of the over reduced them to 20/3 and they needed someone to steady the ship.
Arya: The duo shared a 107 runs partnership which all but sealed the match for the Strikers. While Carey’s knock of 55 of 40 deliveries was studded with 4 fours and a six, Weatherald remained unbeaten on 67 of 47 deliveries. All in all it proved to be a thoroughly dominating performance from the Strikers which will surely give them confidence going further in the tournament.
Arya: Chasing a target of 147 was not going to be a huge challenge but with two quick wickets in the opening over of James Faulkner, the scales tilted a bit and the Strikers just like the Hurricanes needed a partnership to steady the ship. In came Alex Carey to join Jack Weatherald and the duo started taking on the Hurricanes bowlers and played some delightful shots in the process.
Sourya: So they have withstood the early pressure from the Hurricanes bowlers to manage a comprehensive win, the Strikers. Quite a consummate performance with both bat and ball. They will also be happy with how Carey has come into the team and made an impact, how Siddle has bowled and how Weatherald weathered the storm.
18.4 Nathan Ellis to Ryan Gibson
1 That will do it. Tailing in on the pads, Gibson flicks this behind square in the gap for a run and they beat Hurricanes by 5 wickets
18.3 Nathan Ellis to Matthew Short
W OUT!!! A golden duck for Matt Short. Good length ball on middle, Short tries to flick this but gets a leading edge straight to David at mid on
18.2 Nathan Ellis to Jake Weatherald
1 Short on the body, Weatherald pulls it to deep square leg for a single
18.1 Nathan Ellis to Jonathan Wells
W OUT!!!! Good length ball on middle, Wells shimmies down and tries to go downtown but miscues it and offers a simple catch to David at mid on

17.6 Scott Boland to Jake Weatherald
0 Angled in from round the wicket, Weatherald misses the flick and hits the pads. Bowler appeals but the angle was taking it down past the leg stump.
17.5 Scott Boland to Jonathan Wells
1 Ball beats the pad as it is angled in and thuds into the guard, they get a leg bye.
