Player Bio

A top-order batter, Mansoor Akhtar, was born on December 25, 1957, at Karachi. He had gained the limelight due to his 561-run stand with Waheed Mirza for Quetta, which is a record first-wicket partnership in first-class cricket.

Akhtar made his international debut in an ODI fixture against the West Indies on November 21 1980. A few days later, the talented batter featured in his maiden red-ball match as well.

In 1982, Akhtar returned with the knocks of 58 and 57 against England in the longest format, with the latter coming in the winning cause.

The same year saw Karachi–born hitting his first and only ton in his international career against the Aussie team. His knock of 111 paved the way for Pakistan to secure a victory by an innings and three runs.

However, his form dipped in the subsequent matches and he was dropped in the early part of 1983 from the red-ball squad. On the flip side, Akhtar was getting good starts in the limited-overs and registered his career-best score of 47 against Australia in the early part of 1984. But the number three batter soon lost his place in this format as well.

The skilful batter returned in both formats in 1987 but could only feature in a few matches until his last appearance in 1990.

In 19 Tests, he scored 655 runs and in ODIs, 593 runs in 35 innings.

Akhtar represented Pakistan Seniors against India Seniors in 2007 and was the best batter with 171 runs in three innings.
