Player Bio

Born in South Africa, Shane Getkate is a prolific all-rounder for the Irish national team who started playing cricket at the tender age of 7, representing Ireland in age-group cricket. A medium pacer who is known for his variations, Getkate can also bat down the order and score runs rapidly.

The Durban-born all-rounder made his first-class debut in June 2017 for the North-West Warriors and was fast-tracked into the national squad in 2019. Getkate made his international debut in a T20I fixture against Oman on February 13th, 2019.

Getkate, who last featured for Ireland in March 2020 was added to the Irish squad as a replacement for the injured David Delany for the limited-overs series against UAE in January 2021. Unfortunately, the talented all-rounder failed to break into the playing XI.

Travelling with the squad for the past few series but not getting any game time, Getkate has been once again added to the Irish senior squad for their home series against South Africa. Determined to make a comeback after over a year, he would be hoping to showcase his skills against a tough Proteas side to secure some vital points for his side in the World Cup Qualifiers.
