Player Bio

A hard hitting aggressive batsman, Richie Berrington was the star of the show in Scotland’s first ever victory over an ICC Full Member when Scotland defeated Bangladesh in 2012.

Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Berrington migrated to Scotland in his youth days and has represented Scotland in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup.

Two years later, Berrington made his international debut for Scotland in an ODI game against Ireland. He scored the winning run in the match as Scotland won the game by 5 wickets.

He has performed well for Scotland, but was inconsistent in his early days. In 2010, in a match against India A, Berrington was at his best as the right-handed batsman slammed 106 to help Scotland recover from 7/64 to score the required 277.

His crowning moment came against Bangladesh in a T20I game in 2012. Berrington scored his century in just 56 balls as Scotland won the game by 34 runs. It was the first T20I century by a player from an associate nation.

He was added to the Scotland squad for the 2015 World Cup. In Scotland’s opening game against New Zealand, the stylish opener scored a half-century, but his efforts went in vain as New Zealand defeated Scotland easily.

In November 2020, Berrington was nominated for the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Decade award.

Backbone of the Scotish batting lineup, Berrington has been a stalwart for his side for the last decade. A great strokemaker, the South African born has achieved great heights ever since his move to Scotland.
