IPL 2021 | SRH vs RR: With similar woes, distinguished aspirations, Hyderabad lock horns with Rajasthan

This game is cruel. This is a prominent saying that explains how the game of cricket plays a balancing act. And this is what has happened with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team that didn’t fail to register a place in the playoffs since 2016 is striving to get a second win in the 2021 edition. They have been already knocked out of the tournament after suffering eight defeats in the nine matches that they have played so far in the competition. SRH have failed in certainly all the departments. If the batters were among the runs, the bowlers failed to leave a mark and on the other side, if the bowlers produced a good performance, the batsmen didn’t compliment them with an equal effort. A big instance of this was visible during their match against Punjab Kings on Saturday where the batsmen failed to chase down a paltry total of 126. Though, the pitch didn’t really have much on offer for the batsmen but you are expected to chase down this kind of a target when you have the likes of David Warner and Kane Williamson in the line up. Well, the Hyderabad side did have something to take away from this match and that was Jason Holder’s all-round show where he first picked up three wickets and then struck an unbeaten 47 off 29. The bowlers too did their job pretty well during the course of the match. Rajasthan Royals on the other side, are also coming into this game after losing their last respective encounter against Delhi Capitals by a heavy margin. RR faced the similar issue after their batsmen failed to help the side go over the line while chasing a target of 155 in 20 overs. Captain Sanju Samson though remained not out for 70 but his efforts went in vain as he didn’t really get much help from the other end. The Royals need to get back to the winning ways as quickly as they in order to stay in contention for a playoff spot. RR will be up against SRH in Dubai and this would be the second time when the two sides will be facing each other. They locked horns with each other in the first leg in Delhi where Jos Buttler who is not a part of the Royals setup for the second phase unleashed a brutal assault against the SRH bowlers and hammered a 64-ball 125 to help his side post 220/3 in 20 overs. Later, SRH were restricted to 165/8 as RR won the match by 55 runs. Match Details Match: SRH vs RR, 40th Match, Indian Premier League 2021 Date: Monday, September 27, 2021 Time: 7:30 PM Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium , Dubai Telecast: Star Sports Network and Disney Hotstar Pitch Report The track might have something on offer for the batsmen. The batters would need to get their eye in and then look to accelerate. So, if you win the toss, elect to bat first and post a big total on the board. Batting woes If the last respective matches of both the teams are taken into consideration, the two sides have struggled to be among runs. Barring one batsman from each side, the others found it pretty difficult to score runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad might be thinking to make few changes in the line especially in the batting department. Opener David Warner who has been out of form might be replaced by Jason Roy in the top-order. Apart from this, SRH’s middle-order too has had a lean patch. Now, if the franchise wants to finish the tournament on a positive note, the middle-order will play a massive role in it. The script is pretty similar for the Royals too. They are still in contention for a spot in the play offs and if they want to go through, the middle-order needs to go all guns blazing. Bowling vs Bowling Sunrisers have Sandeep Sharma, Jason Holder, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan in the bowling department. While Sandeep and Bhuvi can unsettle the batsmen with their swing, Holder showed his ability in the last match with the ball as well. He didn’t just pick up wickets but also kept the opposition’s scoring-rate under control. Apart from these three, Rashid Khan can prove to be a trump card for SRH especially when he gets his wrong-un into play. For Rajasthan Royals, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman and Kartik Tyagi have done a decent job. While Mustafizur has used his slower, back of the hand balls quite efficiently not just in IPL but also at the highest level, Tyagi unveiled a great temperament while he was bowling the last over against Punjab Kings where the right-arm pacer defended 4 runs. Team News SRH: The Sunrisers Hyderabad can make a few changes in the XI and test the other players as well. The bowling attack seems to be a stable one at the moment for them but the batsmen need to get back in the groove if the side wants to conclude the tournament on a high. RR: Rajasthan Royals included Tabraiz Shamsi in the last match. The left-arm spinner has been in some form for quite sometime and can create some problems against a struggling SRH middle-order. Probable XI SRH: Kane Williamson (c), Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jagadish Suchith and Basil Thampi. RR: Sanju Samson (c & wk), Evin Lewis, Yashasvi Jaiswal, David Miller, Liam Livingstone, Rahul Tewatia, Mahipal Lomror, Shreyas Gopal, Kartik Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman and Chetan Sakariya. Fantasy XI Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror, Abdul Samad, Kane Williamson, Jason Holder (VC), Tabraiz Shamsi (C), Mustafizur Rahman, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

IPL 2021 | DC vs RR: Royals run into indomitable Capitals after spirit-lifting win over Kings

Not often result of one game depict true picture of the state a team is in but the last games of the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals drew a perfect image of where these two sides stand in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. As they have been on the points table, in the race to the final four, the Royals were living on the edge till the last ball of the game and won by a slim margin has been on the brink on the most part of the second innings. On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals were bullish and dominated against a feeble opponent in the form of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last game. No wonder, the Rishabh Pant’s Capitals are ruling while the Sanju Samson’s men in pink are gazing at the middle of the points table of the ongoing edition of the IPL. For the Capitals, it was a normal day in the office against the Sunrisers as their two most potent weapons with the ball in Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje ripped the heart of the Sunriers’ batting in the open. The balling examination was followed by a usual batting juggernaut led by the openers in Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. However, it will be the Royals who will be more ecstatic going into the next game albeit the intensity of the momentous challenges the Capitals will throw at them. They will be delighted to see the young guns in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mahipal Lomror and Karthik Tyagi standing up to be counted in the absence of international stars. No stars? No problem says Indian talents After the withdrawal of Jos Buttler, the last cog of the vital English wheels came off for the Royals and they had no established international stars to boost the aggressive quotient for them, especially at the top of the order with the bat. They signed up Evin Lewis as Buttler’s replacement but the move was a tactical one keeping in mind his form in the recently-concluded CPL instead of a larger strategic one to have a stable top order. However, what they badly needed was an impetus from their Indian players and all those wishes were fulfilled in the first game of the second phase. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been touted as one for the future but the Royals needed him to show belongs to the present as well as they are in a precarious situation in the race for playoffs. He opened the batting with Lewis and showed his full range of shots to establish his belongings at the top of the order. His onslaught was followed by another young batsman’s colossus innings. Mahipal Lomror put waters on all the plans of the Punjab Kings to choke in the middle overs by the experienced leg spinner Adil Rashid. The duo contributed big time in allowing the Royals to set up a big enough total on the board to allow the Kings to mess up a chase in the last over bowled by another young Indian in Karthik Tyagi. Yes, the Royals have not unearthed a young trio of Jaiswal, Lomror and Tyagi to replace the trio of Buttler, Stokes and Archer but the job was well done by the Indian trio and the Royals are alive and kicking in the IPL 2021. However, one of their biggest test will come against the Capitals as the duo of Rabada and Nortje will come steaming in to test their throat and toes while the likes of Pant and Hetmyer will test Karthik’s execution under pressure in the eyes of attack in the last overs. Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals: Match Details Match number: 36 Date and Time: 15:30 IST (10:00 GMT), 14:00 LOCAL Venue: Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi Pitch and Weather The pitches at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium have been a little two-paced in the past and both the pacers and the spinners have enjoyed relatively equal success at this venue in the shortest format. There have been two games this season at this venue and teams have struggled to mount severe damages on the bowling sides in both games. In the first game, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were plummeted to 92 all out while the Mumbai Indians were denied to 155 in the second game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The game between the Capitals and the Royals will be a day affair and hence high humidity can also help the pacers to swing the ball. Team News Delhi Capitals The Capitals suffered an injury setback in the last game as Marcus Stoinis pulled up while bowling in the last game against the Sunriers and it’s highly likely that the all-rounder will miss the game against the Royals. However, Nortje has said that Stoinis appears to be “good” and “fine” but the management is waiting for the results of the scan. “We are just waiting on some results. He looks good, he is fine. I spoke to him this morning, but we are just waiting for some results. He had gone for a scan,” Nortje said in a virtual press conference. They are already without Chris Woakes who could have been a like for like replacement but the Capitals will now fret over replacing Stoinis without compromising their balance. Stoinis was their sixth bowler who was offering flamboyance to the batting order and the Capitals will struggle to find a replacement of his pedigree in such a short while. They can bring Sam Billings to replace Stoinis, the batsman and bank on an experienced set of five bowlers to deliver four overs each. The combination of Rabada and Nortje is all but likely to continue after they were paired once again after coming to the UAE while the pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel will form the slow-bowling conundrum for the Royals batting lineup. Probable XI Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (C &WK), Sam Billings, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan Rajasthan Royals Although the Royals have not cracked the perfect playing XI combination yet they are all set to field an unchanged XI more due to lack of options. Their most expensive player Chris Morris had an unforgettable game against the Kings but the team management led by Sanju Samson and Kumar Sangakkara would not be willing to take such a big call of overlooking him that too in the absence of Archer, Stokes and Buttler. The opening pair of Jaiswal and Lewis will continue followed by Samson at number three, Liam Livingstone and Lomror at four and five respectively. The bowling attack will remain to rely on Morris and Tyagi for express pace while the likes of Chetan Sakariya and Mustafizur Rahman will add the variation quotient to the pace department. Rahul Tewatia along with Lomror and Riyan Parag will fill in as bowlers to give Samson more manoeuvrability with the bowling attack. However, one of their biggest test will come against the Capitals as the duo of Rabada and Nortje will come steaming in to test their throat and toes while the likes of Pant and Hetmyer will test Karthik’s execution under pressure in the eyes of attack in the last overs. Probable XI Yashasvi Jaiswal, Evin Lewis, Sanju Samson (C&WK), Liam Livingstone, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya, Kartik Tyagi Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals: Fantasy XI Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant(WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prithvi Shaw, Chris Morris, Axar Patel, Kartik Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman, Kagiso Rabada Captain: Shikhar Dhawan Vice-captain: Evin Lewis

Losing close matches has become a pattern for us: PBKS coach Anil Kumble

Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble has expressed disappointment at the defeat against Rajasthan Royals and admitted that losing close games has become a “pattern” for the side. “It’s sort of become a bit of a pattern for us, especially as soon as we get to Dubai, it seems. There was a clear message saying we need to finish this game in 19 overs, and that was the approach,” Kumble said at the post-match press conference. Punjab needed four runs in the last over when RR pacer Kaetik Tyagi unveiled his talent and defended the score to anchor his side to a 2-run win in Dubai. The former India player lavished praise on Tyagi and lauded the right-arm bowler for the way he bowled the final over. “But credit to how Tyagi bowled the last over, it was pretty obvious that he’s going to bowl wide outside the off stump, but somehow our batters didn’t take the right options,” Kumble said. Batting first, RR were cruising to a big total at one stage but some fine bowling from Arshdeep and Mohammed Shami in the death overs pulled things back for Punjab and the Royals were bundled out for 185 in 20 overs. Arshdeep bagged a five-wicket haul while Shami scalped three wickets during the course. Later, Punjab began the proceedings in steady manner after captain KL Rahul and opener Mayank Agarwal put 120 runs on the board for the first wicket. While Rahul missed out on a fifty by just one run, Mayank went on to notch up 67 off 43 deliveries. Later, Nicholas Pooran and debutant Aiden Markram held the fort but lost way in the last over as Punjab were restricted to 183/4 in 20 overs. The Royals now have four wins and as many defeats in the eight matches that they have played while Punjab Kings have lost their sixth game in nine matches.

IPL 2021 | PBKS vs RR: Hits and Flops as hopeless Kings fumble in another seamless chase

The familiar story of snatching defeat from the jaws of defeat continued for the Punjab Kings as they slipped into another infuriating loss against the Rajasthan Royals after acing the chase till the last over of the game. Superlative fifties from the skipper KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal kept them ahead of the curve and then the partnership between Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran strolled in the chase of 186 runs. However, with just four runs requiring off the final over, Karthik Tyagi first denied them boundaries on the first few balls and then took the wicket of Pooran to send the Kings on the know territory of disappointing final over. He followed it up with a dot ball and the wicket of Deepak Hooda to make what was looking like a walk in the park a tough ask of three runs of the final ball for Fabian Allen. With the win, the Royals surged to the of the table while the Kings slipped to on the points table of the ongoing edition of the IPL 2021. Hits Karthik Tyagi When Karthik Tyagi started the final over of the game against the Kings, the game seemed to be over for the Royals but the ability of the Kings to make a defeating position for themselves from any situation kept them in the game. The last time any bowler defended four runs in an over, he would have been in secondary school and it tells how the odds were heavily stacked against him and the Royals. Unknown to what was ahead of him, he could not deliver the first ball on the perfect spot but Pooran failed to capitalise on it. He did not repeat the mistake though and delivered balls in the blockhole one after the other and denied both Markram and Pooran any opportunity to get under. Reducing the equation to three runs off the last four balls, he first removed Pooran with a yorker that the left-hander jarred to the skipper Samson. He tactically bowled the next two delivery wide from Deepak Hooda and removed him on the penultimate delivery. Having reduced the equation significantly in the favour of the Royals with three required off the last ball which was to be faced by the new batsman Fabian Allen, Karthik did not relent from the yorker length and as soon as he missed, there was a sense of jubilation in the Royals camp and despair and disbelief in the Kings' camp. If not for the two wickets and immense discipline with the ball in the last over, the night would have been a middling one for the young Indian pacer, but he made sure to put his hands up when the Royals needed a special performance. Mayank Agarwal The Kings needed momentum at the top of the order in pursuit of 186 runs but unlike the recent past, Mayank Agarwal was not the aggressor for them. Instead, he was struggling in the first five overs while KL Rahul was going all guns blazing from the other end. Until the first five overs, his score appeared pedestrian with just nine runs off the 14 balls before Mustafizur Rahman allowed him space to get under the ball. He lifted a slower ball over the bowler’s head to get going and never looked back since then. Rahul Tewatia allowed him the same space in the next over and the right-hander was up to it. However, the flood gates opened for him in the next over delivered by Tyagi, who offered him three half volleys to feats upon. From nine runs off 14 runs, Agarwal quickly surged to a 27-ball 35 by the end of the eighth over. The hard-earned momentum was not squandered by him and the most expansive player in the Royals setup—Chris Morris was despatched for two effortless sixes in the 10th over to establish their domination in the game. Agarwal would be disappointed with not finishing the job for his side but his innings kept the Kings ahead in the game till his dismissal. Arshdeep Singh When Arshdeep Singh was brought into the attack by KL Rahul, he was desperate to end the first partnership between Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal and the young pacer from Punjab did just that by sending the West Indian left-hander back to the pavilion. He was held back for some unknown reasons at that time but his exploit in the wake of desperate Royals’ batsmen ratified the call by KL Rahul. After a successful over, he was brought back to the attack only in the 12th over when the Kings were looking to send back another dangerous batsman in Livingstone. He once again succeded although Allen was the major reason behind Livingstone’s departure. Just like the first over, he was again taken off the bowling attack as Rahul had other ambitious plans for him. He was held back till the last four overs and was brought back to bowl the tough 18th and the 20th over. By the end of the 16th over, the Royals were well poised to go past the 200 runs on the board but the Kings bowlers had other plans in mind, and best of them all was Arshedeep Singh who dismissed yet another dangerous-looking batsman in Mahipal Lomror to check the Royals’ juggernaut. He finished the game with a fabulous fifer to showcase his repertoire of variations to keep on providing big and tactical wickets in different phases of the game. Flops Chris Morris “I would like to say that I have the biggest match-winner sitting alongside me. So, I don’t have any worries. There is no pressure. We all love and enjoy playing with Chris. With Chris in our side, I feel that happy days are ahead of us.” These were the words of the Royals skipper Sanju Samson before their first game of the second phase of the IPL 2021 and he had little idea of how those words will come upside down for him and his side against the Kings. Morris was introduced into the attack when Samson asked him to remove the threatening pair of Rahul and Agarwal. To be fair to Morris, he would have dismissed Rahul if Riyan Parag would not have spilt a relatively easy chance. Morris’ second over came as a nightmare for both him and the Royals as he offered two juicy half volleys to Agarwal and he obliged with two crisp flicks that sailed over the long leg boundary. To make things worse and embarrassing for the men in pink, his misery was snot over and he conceded two more boundaries in the over to provide proper lift to the Kings opening pair. A bowling figure of 2-0-31-0 was not becoming for the stature of Chris Morris and things turned so bad for him that his skipper who had proclaimed him as a match-winner before the game, could bowl him only three overs that yielded a whopping 47 runs. Adil Rashid Adil Rashid has been a champion leg spinner in the international arena for some time now and hence his non-selection in the IPL auction has attracted many criticisms over the past few years. His variations and experience were too good to be ignored for a long time and the Kings opted to rope him as a replacement for Jhye Richardson for the second phase of the tournament. However, like a lot of international stars have faced in the IPL, Rashid was treated with absolute disrespect by fearless batsmen in Jaisawal and Lomror who thrashed his inaccurate line and lengths which were so out of place for an experienced campaigner like him. Rashid tried a lot of googlies against the left-handers but his control over length was horrible and both Jaisawal and Lomror charged him to hit over the top and followed them up by waiting deep inside the crease preempting a shorter delivery from him. It was a fascinating battle between a champion spinner who has been flummoxing batsmen across the world with his variations and two young Indian batsmen who were playing his deliveries with a fearless approach and not his reputation. The Royals will be cock a hoop over this close win over the Kings that has kept them in contention for the final stage of the tournament while the Kings have been forced into a quagmire to ask themselves a tough question of for how long things can go like this.

PBKS vs RR | What Experts Said after Kartik Tyagi bowls 'unbelievable' final over to steal win for RR

Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Kartik Tyagi showed great composure in the last over of the innings against Punjab Kings in Dubai on Tuesday night after he stole away a win from the jaws of defeat for his side. The right-arm bowler defended 4 runs in the final over and also picked up a couple of wickets during the course that included the scalp Nicholas Pooran who had looked good throughout the innings. Chasing 186 in 20 overs, the Punjab Kings were off to a flying start after captain KL Rahul and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal put up 120 runs on the board before Rahul departed for 49 off 33 in the 12the over. Agarwal, however, continued with his good form and notched up a half-century before he was undone for a 43-ball 57 by Rahul Tewatia after getting caught by Liam Livingstone. The Punjab then had debutant Aiden Markram and Pooran in the middle and the two batters compiled a partnership of 57 runs. Pooran was dismissed for 32 off 22 by Tyagi after he was caught behind by Sanju Samson in the last over and then followed it with another wicket of Deepak Hooda who didn’t trouble the scorers and was sent back for a two-ball duck. Tyagi eventually returned with figures of 2/29 in 4 overs as RR won the match by 2 runs. Earlier, the Rajasthan Royals were cruising to a big total before Arshdeep and Mohammed Shami put a halt on their scoring rate and pulled back the things in the death overs. While Arshdeep scalped a five-wicket haul, Shami on the other side, picked up three wickets as RR were bundled out for 185 in 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored for the Royals with 49 off 36 while Mahipal Lomror hammered 43 in just 17 deliveries that included four maximums. The win in this match has provided RR with two crucial points and they have now won four matches out of the eight that they have played. Punjab suffered their sixth defeat in the nine matches that they have featured in. Punjab captain KL Rahul expressed his disappointment at the defeat and admitted that the side needs to handle pressure situations in a better way. “It's a tough one to swallow. We have been a team that has experienced games like these before. We need to see how we can handle pressure better,” he said in the post-match presentation. RR skipper Sanju Samson put his weight behind the bowling unit and said that he trusts his bowlers. “Cricket is a funny game right. We just kept fighting and believing. I always believe in my bowlers, want to keep fighting and that's why I kept those two overs till the end,” he said. Experts Opinion Commentator Harsha Bhogle lavished praise on Kartik Tyagi and the way he defended four runs in the last over. “An over for the ages from Kartik Tyagi! Defends 4 after the Fizz had delivered a 4 run over. Incredible finish. How could Punjab Kings mess this up!” He tweeted. Former India batsman Aakash Chopra pointed out that despite getting a perfect start, Punjab Kings lost their way. “It’s not often that you have a 120 run opening partnership. Lose only 4 wickets. Fielding team drops 4 catches. And you still lose the game by 2 runs in a chase. It ain’t over till,” he tweeted. India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah hailed Tyagi for maintaining his cool under a pressure situation. “What an over, Kartik Tyagi! To maintain a cool head under that kind of pressure and to get the job done, great stuff, very impressive!” Bumrah wrote on Twitter. Former India player Irfan Pathan lauded the youngster for the way he handled pressure in the last over and anchored his side to an important win. “Karthik Tyagi you beauty,” Irfan tweeted. Spinner Harbhajan Singh praised for bowling an “unbelievable” last over to win the match for his side. “What a game… unbelievable last over by #Kartiktyagi He won it for Rajasthan Royals. IPL cricket at its best,” Harbhajan wrote on Twitter. RR will now face Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi while Punjab Kings will be up against SRH in Sharjah on Saturday in their next respective games.

India tour of Sri Lanka | Three-match long ODI, T20I series to start on July 13

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had announced India’s tour of Sri Lanka in July this year and there is clarity on the fixture and itinerary of the tour that will comprise of three-match ODI and an equally long T20I series. As per an ESPNcricinfo report citing the itinerary sent by the Sri Lanka Cricket to the BCCI, the tour will begin with the ODI series on July 13 with the other two matches scheduled to be played on July 16 and 19. The ODI series will immediately be followed by a T20I series with matches on July 22, 24, 27. The venues for all six matches have not been finalized yet, as per ESPNcricinfo. Indian team without the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant will reach the island nation on July 5 while their departure will be on July 28 post the completion of the series. Ganguly had already said that none of the Test specialists or players who will travel to the UK for the World Test Championship final will make it to Sri Lanka and it is all likely that there will be a new captain leading an all-new team for both ODIs and T20Is against Sri Lanka. The ODIs and T20Is could well be the opportunity for the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson who have been in good form with the bat in the IPL 2021. On the bowling front, the tour to Sri Lanka can provide an opening for the young crop of pacers such as Chetan Sakariya and Kartik Tyagi.

IPL 2021 | RR vs SRH: Hits and Flops as Jos Buttler piles on the woes of perturbed Sunrisers

Jos Buttler had been struggling to find the peach of his form in the Indian Premier League so far. Just before this game, he had said, “We've played well in phases.” But in today’s game, not only did the team play well in all departments of the game to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by a huge margin of 55 runs but Buttler himself was on a roll, scoring his maiden T20 century. After being put in to bat first, Rajasthan with the help of Buttler’s century (124 runs) scored a huge total of 220 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Apart from Buttler, skipper Sanju Samson batted well for his 33 balls 48. Chasing that, Hyderabad tried to start aggressively with 57 runs in the powerplay without a loss. Just after the first dismissal, when Mustafizur Rahman bowled Manish Pandey, the team lost control and never came back, eventually ending up with 165-8 in the 20 overs. Kartik Tyagi, who was playing his first game o the season was brilliant with the ball alongside The Fizz Rahman. Apart from heroes, this game had villains too, and all of that shall be covered in the section Hits and Flops Hits Jos Buttler The Englishman after playing, probably the best T20 innings of his life, joked, saying, “I finally will have Alastair Cook stop telling me that he has got one T20 hundred more than me.” But the innings was more than just another hundred, it was a lesson for anyone trying to learn how you build a T20 inning. When he started his innings, the 31-year-old was playing exactly how he had played so far in this year’s league, that is struggling to time the ball. At one stage he was eight from 13 and then at another stage, he was 35 from 33. Buy having played the 33 balls, the wicket-keeper batsman started to tee off little by little. His shots started connecting and he was naturally finding the gaps. In the next 31 balls, the Somerset batsman hit 89 runs, including his second fifty coming off just 17 balls. In his knock of 124, the Taunton born hit 11 fours and eight humongous sixes. It was Buttler who made all the difference, making sure that the fifth bowler, who was actually a combination of bowler, goes for 63 runs. Mustafizur Rahman The Fizz as he is called did exactly what he is known for, mix up the length and the speed. It was him in his second over that Pandye was bowled around his legs on the very first ball after the powerplay. His cutters and slower ones got the batsman in a spot of bother and as a result, he was able to pick up three wickets and went for just 20 overs in his quota of four overs. In fact, at the time when all other Royals bowlers were being taken to the cleaners by Bairstow and Pandey, he went for only 10 runs in his first two. The class of Fizz is being displayed from the fact that in the seven games that he has played so far, the Bangladeshi left-arm speedster has picked up eight wickets and apart from the first game, has never gone for more than 40 runs in any game. Kartik Tyagi Playing only his first game of the season, the 20-year-old Tyagi was more than just on the money. The speedster was not only bowling speedy bouncers, well directed at the shoulders and the head of the batsmen but was also able to pull in the odd yorker and bowl at the good length at the start of the inning, showing exactly why he should have been picked up at the very instant he was available for selection post his injury at the start of the season. The Hapur born was bowled three overs at the stretch and it was only in the third over that he was taken for 16 runs. In the first two overs, Tyagi, was pacy, bouncy and into the minds and bodies of the batters, terrorising them, making them commit mistakes, just unlucky that he didn’t get the wicket. The Uttar Pradesh and India U-19 representative got the wicket as well, that too of the SRH captain Kane Williamson, who tried to take on his bouncer, but holed out in the deep to Chris Morris. The youngster made an impact, one that will not only guarantee him a second chance but many more in the games to come. Flops Kane Williamson Given the captaincy of the side midway, it wasn’t really great start for the Kiwi man, who failed both as a batsman and as a skipper in this game. While he wasn’t really brilliant with the bowling changes, the field planning wasn’t that great either. The Blackcaps skipper didn’t look himself at all and it was evident on his face in the field as well. The was worry, frustration and even a slight bit of anger when he got out while batting and these are not the expressions that we associate with Williamson. His innings of 20 runs was basically a struggle throughout which was ended by Tyagi. Maybe there are some unresolved issues in the dressing room, or maybe the bowlers conceded way too much for him to handle in the very first game, but whatever that it might be, it cost the team a game and if Sunrisers are looking to get back, Williamson need to be back at being the refrigerator of a cool man that he is and need to pull out those ideas from his hats. Sandeep Sharma The Delhi wicket is a massacre ground for bowlers no doubt, but sometimes the bowlers drag on just a little bit more. And bowling a no-ball is criminal. Sandeep Sharma was not only criminal bowling the no-ball, but he also committed the mistake of keeping it full to Buttler. In his last two overs, the Punjab bowler went for 17 and 24 runs respectively, both the times hammered by Buttler, whom he did eventually get outplayed down. In total, the 27-year-old conceded 50 runs in his quota of four overs, putting a lot of pressure on his fellow bowlers and skipper Williamson. With this performance of his, he might have risked his chances of playing the second game as well. While Sunrisers are still with just one win from seven games and lying at the bottom o the table, they would have another opportunity at the Arun Jaitley Stadium when they take on Chennai Super Kings on May 7. The Royals would also be up against the same opponent at the same venue but on May 5 only.
