Player Bio

Mohammad Naim Sheikh is an aggressive opening bat for Bangladesh, coming through the ranks. The southpaw is an off-side dominant batter who believes in playing the seamers late and puts pressure on the spinner by walking down the track. A young prodigy who has the potential to don the Green and Red jersey for a long-long time.

Naim is a South Dhaka-born cricketer who represented the Legends in Rupganj during his maiden Dhaka Premier League season in 2018. The dashing opener rose in his debut List-A season where he scored 807 runs in 16 matches to become the highest run-scorer of his team.

In the same year, Naim made his first-class debut for Dhaka Metropolis and later was drafted in the Dhaka Dynamites team for the Bangladesh T20 League. Following a prolific domestic season, he represented Bangladesh in the U-19 World Cup in 2018. However, the opener had a subtle tournament, apart from his 60 off 43 balls against the Namibia U-19 team.

A 20-year-old Naim got fast-tracked into the international arena and got his maiden call-up during the Tri-series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in September 2019, but couldn’t make his debut then.

A couple of months later, the prodigy was named in the T20I squad to tour India. He made his T20I debut against India in November, at Delhi, where he scored 26 runs on debut. In the third game, the southpaw scored a staggering 81 off 48 balls where all the other Bangladeshi batters fell in Deepak Chahar’s trap of 6-7. Naim made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in March 2020 but didn’t get the opportunity to bat on his debut.

Later that year, Naim was named in the squad for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, where Bangladesh U23 finished the tournament as runners-up. He was also part of Bangladesh’s winning team during the 2019 South Asian Games.

Mohammad Naim is a sound batter who also loves to bat in an aggressive style. He is well-capable to take on any bowling attack on his given day. Bangladesh’s top-order is currently loaded with the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, and Soumya Sankar but whenever Naim gets his chance, the potent youngster needs to stamp his authority to seal his spot.
