U19 World Cup winning off spinner Vicky Ostwal has been put on the watchlist for suspect bowling action for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Ostwal was pivotal to India’s campaign in the Caribbean shores and largely controlled the rate of scoring himself along with other spinners in the first XI. He managed to pick 12 wickets in the tournament well ahead of the rest of the spinners in the team and was ranked at #7 in the list of players with most wickets. Ostwal’s struggles are not new as he has been called for suspect action in the Indian junior circuit several times but was cleared by the Sri Ramchandra Institute of Higher Education and Research - an ICC affiliated academy that deals with biomechanical issues and corrects suspect action. There are a few players in the U19 team that could get picked by the IPL teams this season and Ostwal is one of the names that could stay in the radar. But if found chucking, Ostwal could be banned from bowling till he corrects his action.

The U19 World Cup-winning Indian team led by Yash Dhull will be felicitated in Ahmedabad upon their arrival in India. “It has been a hectic schedule for the boys who have little time to rest. They will get some rest after they land in India," said a BCCI official. Earlier, the BCCI had also announced the cash price for the players and the support staff. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulates India Under-19 team for the title triumph at the Under-19 Men’s World Cup 2022 which was played in the West Indies," the BCCI said in a statement. "The BCCI has announced cash rewards for the victorious India U19 team," the statement added. Each player will receive INR 40 lakhs while each member of the support staff will get INR 25 lakhs each. India 19 defeated England U19 in the final in Antigua. This is India's fifth U19 World Cup title.

England U19 had a terrible start to the proceedings against India U19 in the final of the World Cup in Antigua. The English team suffered a bating collapse and were left tottering at 91/7 before James Rew and James Sales tried to steady the ship with a 93-run partnership for the 8th wicket. Rew missed out on a hundred by just five runs while Sales remained unbeaten at 34. Talking about the batting collapse, captain Tom Prest admitted that the side needed just one more stand and a total of somewhere around 230 to make a game out of it. "The way James Rew and James Sales came in, I think they put on close to a hundred or maybe even just over [93]," he said. "All it would have taken was one more partnership, really, earlier on in our innings, and if we had got to 230 it would have been really interesting." Prest lauded the bowlers for their efforts. "I think we actually did really well, restricting the run rate," he said. "It felt like they were almost digging themselves a hole, really, that first partnership [between Harnoor Singh and Shaik Rasheed for the second wicket]. They chewed up quite a lot of balls - we felt, just a couple of wickets and we were well in the game," he added.

India U19 team scripted history after clinching the World Cup title for the fifth time. The Yash Dhull-led side defeated England in the final in Antigua to be crowned champions. Bowling first, India thoroughly dominated the English side and reduced them to 91/7 before James Rew and James Sales steadied the ship for the side with a partnership of 93 runs for the 8th wicket. Talking about the partnerhip, captain Dhull said that the side wasn't really under pressure as they were prepared for everything situation. "When they [England] had a partnership, between a left-hander and a right-hander [James Rew, who scored 95, and James Sales, who hit 34 not out], and the pitch had improved. They were batting well then, so we focused on dot balls," he said. "We knew there would be a partnership somewhere, they are a good team, but we didn't feel any pressure, because we were prepared for everything," he added. India faced some hiccups during the 190-run chase as they lost an early wicket and later Rasheed and Dhull got out at a criticial junction. But the skipper was of the opinion that his side had depth in the batting department and the things were still in control. "We were normal. We knew we had a lot of batters. Even Ravi can bat. We have a lot of allrounders. So we were confident. We felt things were normal and we were in control," Dhull said. "While batting, the pitch had improved. So we knew that if we batted deep, we would get there. We just needed to bat till the end," he said.

Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, Prithvi Shaw, and now it's Yash Dhull who is the new entrant in this elite club. Dhull is the latest addition to the tally of the captains to lead India to the U19 World Cup title. The Boys in Blue have been crowned the WORLD CHAMPIONS at the junior level. The road for Dhull's side though wasn't an easy one. Some of the Indian players including captain Yash had tested positive for Covid-19. But he and the others recovered and fought back marvelously. Dhull first led the side to a win against Bangladesh in the quarter-final match and then became only the third Indian captain to score a World Cup ton as he notched up 110 against Australia in the semis. Cut to the glorious day. Yash Dhull and his troops negotiated all the odds in the most emphatic manner and gave India the fifth World Cup title at the U19 level beating England in the final clash by 4 wickets. Raj Bawa, Ravi Kumar rise to the occasion England won the toss and as expected elected opted to bat first in Antigua. But it seemed as if the Indian bowling unit and especially Raj Bawa and Ravi Kumar were up for the challenge as they didn't let the top and middle-order get into the groove. The two bowlers shared a total of 9 wickets among themselves out of the 10 with Kumar returning with figures of 4/34 in 9 overs and Bawa bagging a fifer for 31 runs in 9.1 overs. They just rattled the batting line up with perfect line and length to push England on backfoot and leave them tottering at 91/7. James Rew resists While England were losing wickets at the other end, it was James Rew who showed mettle and held the fort on the opposite side. Rew was joined by James Sales when the England team was struggling at 91/7 and the two batters took on the onus on themselves to produce a fightback. While they began the rebuilding of the innings in a cautious manner, Rew didn't shy away from hitting the ball to the fence. He eventually scored 95 off 116 before getting caught in the deep by Tambe off Ravi Kumar. Sales on the other side remained unbeaten at 34 off 65 as England managed to put 189 on the scoresheet before getting bowled out. Responsible batting from India despite hiccups India suffered an early blow after Angkrish Raghuvanshi was sent back in the hut for a two-ball duck by Joshua Boyden and the side needed someone to provide resistance. Opener Harnoor Singh was then joined by the in-form Shaik Rasheed in the middle and they both stitched a stand of 49 runs for the second wicket. Harnoor was eventually dismissed for 21 off 46. Captain Yash Dhull came out to bat at number four and he along with Rasheed steadied the ship for the team. Rasheed went on to notch up a fifty but his wicket at a team score of 95 gave India hiccups as it was followed by Dhull's dismissal in a span of just 2 runs leaving India in a spot of bother at 97/4. Both the batters got out on a stroke that wasn't certainly required at that point of time in the match. Rasheed was caught by Rew off Sales at mid-wicket after he sliced a full-length delivery pitched around the off-stump channel straight up in the air. The ball popped out of the fielder's hand but he managed to gather it well in the second attempt sending Rasheed packing. Later, Dhull pulled a short of a length delivery around the waist to the deep square fielder. India now had two new batsmen in Nishant Sindhu and Raj Bawa at the crease and needed them to stick around and provide the team with a responsible partnership. And they did just what the doctor ordered. Both Sindhu and Bawa began the rescue operation and didn't play a glory shot till the time they got their eye in. While Sindhu remained unbeaten at 50 off 54 eventually, Bawa made an important contribution with a 54-ball 35 as their partnership of 67 runs for the fifth wicket brought India back in the game. Bawa was the fifth batsman to get dismissed while his departure was followed by Kaushal Tambe's wicket in quick succession but that didn't really affect the chase as India went over the line in the 48th over. The wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Bana chipped in with 13* off 5. For England, Joshua Boyden was the pick of the bowlers after he returned with a couple of wickets for 24 runs in 7 overs. "Proud moment for India, that we have managed to achieve this. It was difficult at the start to get the combination right. but as time went we became a family and the team atmosphere was good. Great moment to be playing under this lot of support staff," Dhull said after the match.

England U19 batter James Rew played a brilliant knock against India U19 in the final of the World Cup but missed out on a well-deserved century by just five runs after he was undone for 95 off 116 deliveries by Ravi Kumar. Kumar bowled a back of the length delivery and Rew pulled that one straight to Kaushal Tambe at deep mid-wicket who fumbled the catch but recovered well to grab the ball, courtesy of a forward dive. England had opted to bat first after winning the toss but were off to a miserable start as they lost a few early wickets and were left tottering at 91/7 before Rew and James Sales joined hands and stitched a stand of 93 runs for the 8th wicket. Rew was Kumar's third wicket in the innings.
