Langer, team manager Gavin Dovey argue with staff members over 'inappropriate' Bangladesh video

Australia head coach Justin Langer and team manager Gavin Dovey were reportedly involved in a heated argument with one of the staff members of the team after a video was posted on Cricket Australia's website - cricket.com.au, according to ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’ report. The video that was posted had the Bangladesh players celebrating the T20I series win against the Aussie side at home. “Dovey had argued that it was inappropriate for the Bangladesh team song to be posted on a CA-operated website,” the report said. “…the incidents were witnessed by at least a dozen people and left some players taken aback and with a sense of unease about what had transpired,” it added. While Langer didn’t comment upon the incident, Dovey admitted that the discussion should have taken place in private. “There was a difference of opinion, and we agreed to disagree on a particular matter. In hindsight, it was one of those instances which should have taken place in private. I take full ownership of that,” he said. Australia suffered a thumping 4-1 defeat against Bangladesh in the five-match T20I series. They were bundled out for their lowest T20I total in the final encounter. Chasing a small target of 123, the Australian team was bowled out for 62 and lost the match by 60 runs. Australia have been through a rough patch in the T20Is as they also suffered a defeat in the series against the West Indies.

Shakib reclaims top all-rounder spot in T20Is; Bumrah in top 10 of Test rankings

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has for the first time reached the top of the all-rounders ranking in the T20I formats ever since early 2018. Thanks to his splendid performances in two continuous series (against Zimbabwe and Australia), the 34-year-old moved to 286 points – one more than Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi to reach the top of the list. In the last two series combined, Shakib scored 151 runs and took 10 wickets in eight matches. On his way, he also became the first player in cricket history to complete the double of 100 wickets and 1000 runs in T20I cricket. Along with Shakib, his fellow compatriot, Mustafizur Rahman also climbed 20 spots and jammed his way into the top 10 of the T20I bowling rankings with 619 rating points. He now sits at the 10th spot in a list topped by South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi. The Fizz ended his five-match campaign with a haul of seven wickets at 8.57, leaking just 3.52 runs per over. In the Test rankings released by the ICC, India’s Jasprit Bumrah climbed 10 spots to ninth on the rankings with 760 rating points. He was rewarded for his nine-wicket match haul which included a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the match. England’s James Anderson too climbed one spot to seventh on the bowlers ranking list. In the batting department, England skipper Joe Root, on the back of his second innings century and first-innings fifty in the Trent Bridge Test leapfrogged his Indian counterpart to the fourth position on the list.

Experienced players needed to perform better: Wade after series loss against Bangladesh

Australia suffered a thumping defeat against Bangladesh by 1-4 in the five-match T20I series away from home. Stand-in skipper Matthew Wade has expressed his disappointment on the series loss and said that the performance from the side wasn’t up to the mark. “There’s not a lot of positives to take out of it, to get beaten in the fashion we did … was not good enough from an Australian cricket team regardless of the personnel we’ve got here,” Wade told reporters. Wade further added that the senior and experienced players should have performed in a better way. ”Myself, Moises (Henriques), Dan Christian, we are all experienced players and we needed to do better,” he said. The visitors were bundled out for 62 in the final T20I in Dhaka while chasing a low total of 122. Only two batsmen, Wade and Ben McDermott manage to get to the two-figure mark. The Aussie side had a disappointing start to the chase after losing an early wicket and never really made a return back in the match as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals to be left tottering at 54/7 and eventually get bowled out. Shakib Al Hasan scalped a four-wicket haul for Bangladesh while Mohammad Saifuddin picked up three wickets. The hosts had earlier taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series after winning the first three matches while Australia clinched a win in the penultimate clash before losing the final encounter.

BAN vs AUS | Aussies dismissed for their lowest T20I total as Shakib helps Tigers lift T20I series 4-1

It was a historic day in Bangladesh and an equally opposite one in Australian cricket. While the Aussies slumped to their lowest ever T20I total of 62, losing their last five wickets in eight runs. In fact, it was Australia’s shortest innings in cricketing history in terms of balls as they were dismissed in 13.4 overs, breaking their previous record of 14.3 balls, where they were dismissed for 79 in a T20I against England in 2005. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan was the hero finishing with figures of 4-9 in only 3.4 overs. On his way to the four wickets, he also crossed the 100 wicket mark in T20Is, thereby becoming the first cricketer in history to complete the double of 100 wickets and score 1000 runs. Other bowlers to take wickets included Mohammad Saifuddin, who was playing only his first game of the series, Nasum Ahmed and skipper Mahmudullah. While Siafudding picked up three, Nasum got two wickets and Mahmudullah a solitary one. Surprisingly Mustafizur Rahman, who had so far picked up seven wickets in the series failed to pick any today. For Australia, only captain Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott were able to cross the double-digit while the rest of the crew simply crumbled. Earlier in the day, Bangladesh after winning the toss chose to bat first. With little contributions of Mohmmad Naim, Mahmudullah and Somya Sarkar, the Men in Red and Green managed to reach 122-8 in their quota of 20 overs. Nathan Ellis and Dan Christian picked two wickets each. Having not won even a single T20I game against Australia prior to this series to go on to beat them 4-1, Bangladesh’s achievement was outlined by a brilliant display from all players at various stages. However, Shakib, for his seven wickets and 11 runs in five games was adjudged Player of the Series.
