That's it from our coverage of the first ODI between Sri Lanka and India. An exciting tied game to kick start the series. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka Captain): "I did think 230 was enough. We should have done bit more to restrict them under 230. In the afternoon session, it turned a little bit more but when the lights are on it comes on easy to bat.

Thinking was the left hander came in to bat. I thought I can bowl a few overs to the left hander. Not that much relived but happy about the energy in the field and the way we played in the 2nd innings. Happy about Dunith's knock and Nissanka played really well."
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "Yeah, I mean. The scores are gettable. You just have to bat well to get those scores. We batted well in patches. We failed to get consistent momentum. We knew the powerplay would be crucial. We had the upper hand when we started. We lost wickets in the middle. Axar and KL put a partnership to bring us back in the game. But one required from 14 balls, disappointed to not get it. But credit to Sri Lanka for the way they bowled.

There was some bite off the surface when we bowled. There was something in it for the spinners. It's not the surface where you come in and play your strokes. But I'm really proud with the way we fought till the end. The game shifted from one end to the other. It was important to keep fighting. Still think we had to get that one run."
Dunith Wellalage (Player of the Match): "I came with the plan because the wicket was a bit turning. They bowled really well so I wanted to give them some pressure. Me and Liyanage wanted to put a partnership. Me and Hasaranga had a good partnership.

Wicket was a little bit slow. We planned to score 220 runs. Wicket was little bit better in the 2nd innings. I think first of all our skipper and Wanindu Hasaranga changed the game. We played a good match today."
Dunith Wellalage is the player of the match.

9:58 PM: A magnificent match to kick start the 3-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and India as the home captain Charith Asalanka keeps his nerve and defends a low score with the ball in hand.

Sri Lanka won the toss in overcast and humid conditions electing to bat first. The Indian bowlers had a great day in the field restricting the hosts to 230/8 with Dunith Wellalage (67* off 65) and Pathum Nissanka (56 off 75) playing brilliant knocks.

Rohit Sharma playing a match for the first time after the T20 World Cup final started off in attacking fashion smashing 3 sixes and 7 fours to hit 58 in 47 balls before Dunith Wellalage returned with the ball to send Shubman Gill and the Indian skipper back in quick time.

Virat Kohli could score just 24 in 32 deliveries. Washington Sundar at number 4 failed to impress as well. Shreyas Iyer was cleaned up by Asitha Fernando for 23 after he added 43 runs with Kohli for the 4th wicket.

Axar Patel (33 off 57) joined KL Rahul (31 off 43) at the crease with the duo adding 57 runs for the 6th wicket. Shivam Dube at number 8 smashed 2 sixes and a four to bring India back in the hunt scoring 25 in 24 balls.

The pacers Asitha Fernando and debutant Mohamed Shiraz were not required to bowl in the third powerplay at all with the spinners doing the job for Sri Lanka. Skipper Asalanka (3/30) was the pick of the bowlers, Wanindu Hasaranga (3/58) a bit expensive but held his nerve in the key moments.

Dunith Wellalage starred with the bat and with the ball as well with figures of 9-1-39-2. Akila Dananjaya was brilliant with 1/40. Asitha Fernando was tidy with the ball after a couple of expensive spells.

India needed 34 runs to win in 55 balls when Axar lost his wicket and just 1 run in 14 deliveries when Shivam Dube was trapped by Asalanka. Arshdeep Singh going for the sweep on the first ball he faced was out plumb in front resulting in the match being finished in a tie.
Its a tie! Charith Asalanka defends it for Sri Lanka! What a decision to bowl himself in the 3rd powerplay right up to the end! Finishes with 3/30!
Charith Asalanka seems to have done it for Sri Lanka. Arshdeep will review this!
47.5 C Asalanka to A Singh
W Struck on the back leg, a loud appeal and the finger is raised. This game ends in a tie. Can you believe it? The Lankan players start celebrating. However, they have to wait as Arshdeep has reviewed this one. Asalanka from round the wicket tosses this up on the stumps, Arshdeep gets down on one knee and goes for the slog sweep but misses it completely. He wears it on the back leg right in front of the stumps and the umpire raises his finger. There is no bat involved and the third umpire asks for ball tracking. It's three reds and Arshdeep falls. It's a tie. That's a pretty poor shot from Arshdeep with one required to win. He gets trapped in front of the stumps. This won't please head coach Gautam Gambhir at all. Sanath Jayasuriya, the Lankan head coach, meanwhile, is up on his feet applauding the effort of the Lankan bowlers.
Arshdeep Singh is the last man in. 1 more run to win in 14 deliveries. He walks in without a helmet. Remember, there is no superover!
