Guyana Amazon Warriors Women outplayed Deandra Dottin-led Trinbago Knight Riders by 8 wickets, securing their first win of the season. Meanwhile, TKR have now lost two games in a row. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. For now, this is me, Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators Ayan Chatterjee, Saptak Sanyal, and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma. CHEERS!
Lauren Winfield-Hill (Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain): "Yes, it was awesome. Burns took the pressure away from me. It was like I was batting on a different track. It would not be easy for the new batters coming in. So, glad to get over the line.

We did well to restrict them to 130. I thought they could have scored 10 more and we won with 2 and a bit overs to spare and so all good for us.

I think I have enjoyed captaincy and being a foreigner I have to lean in on Stafanie Taylor to know them. But I have enjoyed it.

Yes, Courtney Walsh is the boss and he is quite strict with us. But today, he will be fine. We have to listen to what the boss says.

Just will have a few drinks and enjoy ourselves today and then get back to the drawing board for the game on Sunday."
Deandra Dottin (Trinbago Knight Riders Women Captain): "Yes, I would have loved to win the toss first, but it is what it is. At the end of the day, you still have to get the job done.

I think we did well in the first half, setting a decent total of 130 on the board. Actually, the pitch played a bit better than expected. I noticed that in the second innings, it improved significantly.

I mean, we already know the conditions, so I don't think the wetness should be an excuse for the dropped catches. We're good enough to make those catches."
Erin Burns (Player of the Match): "Always nice to get runs and help the team get the win in the end. It was a later start and lot of dew out there.

We knew we had to chase and after early jitters, did well to chase it down.

Yes, love batting out here and bat with the captain and enjoyed myself. Yes, enjoying myself out there, It is a condensed tournament and love playing in West Indies. Thank You."

Time for the presentations.
9:25 AM IST, 23:55 Local Time: A comprehensive victory for Guyana Amazon Warriors Women as they surpassed Trinbago Knight Riders' 130 runs with 8 wickets in hand and 16 balls to spare, opening their winning account in WCPL 2024.

Earlier, Trinbago Knight Riders got off to a promising start after being put into bat, with openers Harshitha Samarawickrama (33 off 28) and Deandra Dottin (20) building a solid 50-run partnership. Jemimah Rodrigues (26 off 24) and Jess Jonassen (28 off 23) contributed valuable runs, but the innings lost momentum in the latter stage, and TKR were eventually restricted to 130/6.

For the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Chloe Tryon was the standout bowler, taking 4/21 in her 4 overs. Shabnim Ismail and Nyia Latchman also chipped in with a wicket each.

In pursuit of 130 runs, the
Guyana-based team got off to a shaky start, losing Natasha McLean (0 off 2) and Stafanie Taylor (6 off 8) inside the four overs. However, Lauren Winfield-Hill and Erin Burns paired up in the middle and started building the partnership. The pair pounced on the opportunity given and kept the scoreboard moving at a decent pace. The Trinbago Knight Riders' fielding was below par, with several dropped catches that allowed the pair to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Burns switched gears as the game progressed and notched up her half-century, with the partnership between her and Lauren Winfield-Hill flourishing beyond 100 runs. This marked only the second time in WCPL history that any pair has put together a 100-run partnership. TKR bowlers toiled to break this partnership but failed to do so as Burns (78* off 48) and Winfield-Hill (46* off 47) remained unbeaten till the end and secured an easy win for their side. Notably, the 119*-run partnership between the pair is the highest in the history of WCPL.

The TKR bowlers couldn't maintain the pressure they initially created with the new ball, and a few dropped catches further undermined their efforts, leading to their defeat. Jess Jonassen and Shikha Pandey were the only bowlers to grab one wicket each for them.

Stay tuned for the presentation...
