After drubbing South Africa 3-0 in the ODI series, India Women clinch the one-off Test match as well. Now both sides will lock horns for a 3-match T20I series starting on July 5. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of this engrossing Test match. For now, it's time to bid adieu. Deepak Prakash taking your leave on behalf of co-commentators Ninaad Dixit, Pritam Dey, and scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. CHEERS!

10-Wicket Victories for India in Women's Tests:

v South Africa at Paarl, 2002

v South Africa at Chennai, 2024*
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "They batted really well, and I think we worked very hard for this. Credit goes first to Smriti and Shafali's partnership, which set a platform for us. Secondly, I think everyone in the team contributed really well with the bat.

I think everyone in the team contributed really well to winning this game. Hats off to our bowlers, especially the spinners, who kept believing they could take those wickets and secure the win.

The bowlers earned the trust to keep bowling, with our medium pacers also doing a great job. Our support staff pushed us at every break, creating that energy. I was a bit greedy and kept giving the ball to the three spinners, while also sharing the responsibility.

When we came in the morning, we knew we had only a hundred runs in our pocket. We spoke to our bowling unit that today we needed to be careful, not giving away easy boundaries while constantly hunting for wickets. Planning meticulously and sticking to it paid off well for us as a bowling unit."
Sneh Rana (Player of the Match): "Feeling really great to contribute on such an occasion. Tough to describe in words. Body is quite fresh after fielding for so many overs. In the start the pitch was difficult for the spinners with not much turn. Later on we got a lot of turn and bounce. The South African batters balanced the game but our bowling attack fought back.

Playing a Test match is a big thing and special. Winning this award is beyond description. I also want to say one thing. People say that playing off spinners is very easy but I hope those people got an answer today."
Sneh Rana is the player of the match!
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "The character shown by this group in the last couple of days has been absolutely incredible. Conceding 500 runs on day one was obviously not ideal, and I don't think many people expected us to take it all the way to 4:00 p.m. on the fourth day. I am very proud of the group and the character we demonstrated.

There are a lot of small areas to consider. We fought very hard to secure a draw. Each batter probably feels they could have stayed in longer. If we had restricted them a bit more on day one, things might have been different. There are many moments to look back on, but I am still very proud of where we are now.

I think each batter had the mindset to stay in as long as they could. Players like de Klerk, Sune Luus, and Kapp, known for their explosive cricket, showed their ability to graft and block balls at the end. It was very heartwarming to see."
HIGHEST RUN AGGREGATE IN WOMEN'S TEST MATCHES:

1371 - England v Australia at Nottingham, 2023

1279 - India v South Africa at Chennai, 2024*

1143 - England v Australia at Guildford, 1998
Dillon du Preez (South Africa Women Head Coach): "If you go back to Friday, we were on the backfoot already in the 2nd session. If we lost with an hour to go on the final day, it was a hell of a time from the team.

You look at the 2nd session, no wickets down. We need to defend so I think our bowling let us down a bit. When it comes to batting, getting sent back in you need to score and survive as well. We don't play a lot of Tests but we will get there.

It was a good performance. 1 or 2 balls stayed low in the 1st innings. You think if that didn't happen what difference it would have made. A bit disappointing when we lost 5-6 wickets early yesterday morning. Proud of the team and we will take positive things out of this and go out and work on our skill."

Amol Muzumdar (India Women Head Coach): "We played against England and won. It was a record breaking Test match. We defeated Australia at Wankhede and now against South Africa. This was a real test of character for both the teams for all the players also. No better advertisement for cricket than this Test match.

Following-on challenged the fielders. The pitch was on the slower and lower side so we thought even if they got ahead in the game so we had a chance. Full credit to their batters who applied themselves and put up a good show. For a day and a half we were properly tested.

The 2nd session on day 3 where we made them follow-on but we couldn't pick up any wickets. Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt played really well. Hats off to our girls who stuck it out and fought hard and every wicket was earned. Credit even to the reserve players."
Shafali Verma: "I wanted to take some time and back my strengths. Hard work paid off. I was looking to go for big hits in the 2nd innings but didn't.

Adapting is more mental. I did the same and by god's grace it worked for the team. It was hard to field in humid conditions for so long. But the winning side in Tests has to field twice so we are happy to do that."
3:52 PM IST, Local Time: A comprehensive victory for India Women as they dump South Africa by 10 wickets in the one-off Test match. South Africa Women performed well with the bat in the second innings, but their lackluster performance in the first innings made the difference.

After opting to bat first, India Women declared their innings at 603/6, courtesy of scintillating knocks from Shafali Verma (205) and Smriti Mandhana (149). The opening pair added a record 292 runs for the opening wicket. Harmanpreet Kaur (69) and Richa Ghosh (86) were other positives with the bat for the hosts, propelling India’s score to over 600 runs.

Delmi Tucker bagged a couple of wickets for South Africa, while Nadine de Klerk, Sekhukhune, and Nonkululeko Mlaba bagged a wicket apiece.

South Africa’s batting faltered miserably in response to India’s hefty 603 runs and were skittled for 266 runs. Marizanne Kapp topped the batting chart for the Proteas with 74 runs to her name. Sune Luus (65), Anneke Bosch (39), Nadine de Klerk (39), and Wolvaardt (20) looked promising but failed to convert their score into significant totals.

Sneh Rana wreaked havoc with the ball for the hosts, bagging 8 wickets, while Deepti Sharma extracted the other two wickets.

With a total lead of 337 runs in the first innings, India imposed a follow-on on the Proteas. Laura Wolvaardt (122) and Sune Luus (109) stood tall with the bat in South Africa’s second innings, adding 190 runs for the second wicket. Although the Proteas' middle order faltered again, Nadine de Klerk’s valiant 61 helped South Africa avoid an innings defeat, as they posted 373/10 in their second innings, setting a target of 37 runs for the hosts.

Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, and Gayakwad shared a couple of wickets each for India, while Pooja Vastrakar, Shafali Verma, and Harmanpreet Kaur contributed one wicket to Proteas' downfall.

Shubha Satheesh (13*) and Shafali Verma (24*) spearheaded the innings for India in the final innings of the match, taking only 9.2 overs to achieve the target.

Stay tuned for the presentation.....

2 Full and outside the off stump. Plants the front foot forward looking to drive but decides to drag it back. Ball flies off the face of the bat in the third man region with the slip fielder behind it. Enough distance allowing the batters to come back for the 2nd run. India win by 10 wickets! End of a magnificent Test match.
