6:38 PM IST and Local Time: A solid performance by the Dindigul Dragons as they beat the Trichy Grand Cholas by 16 runs and get their first points in the table. They were good with the bat and brilliant with the ball and the Cholas had no answer to it. Trichy remains winless in TNPL history as Dindigul picks up the win.
Chasing 161 for the win on a tricky surface, the Cholas lost wickets at regular intervals. Arjun P Murthy scored 18 off 20 balls. Shyam Sundar looked good for his 23 off 22 balls. Jafar Jamal scored 13 off 10 balls. Sanjay Yadav laboured his way to 24 off 28 balls. R Rajkumar played a blinder as he scored 31 off 17 balls. P Saravan Kumar was unbeaten on 15* off 11 balls in the end. 5 extras given by the fielding side as the Cholas ended with 144/8 in 20 overs.
Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for Dindigul Dragons as the captain led from the front with his 3/18 in 4 overs. The Impact Player Sandeep Warrier bowled well for his 2/17 in 4 overs. Varun Chakaravarthy was economical for his 1/22 in 4 overs. A wicket apiece for G Kishoor and VP Diran. They were a bit expensive, but good enough on the day.
Earlier in the game, Dindigul Dragons were put into bat first by the Cholas. They also lost early wickets but Shivam Singh held the innings together and scored 78 off 51balls. Baba Indrajith scored 33 off 28 balls. Boopathi Kumar was unbeaten on 23* off 16 balls. The innings fell away a little bit in the end, but the Dragons finished with 160/8 in 20 overs with 6 extras given by the fielding side.
KEaswaran was by far the pick of the bowlers for Cholas as he picked up the first hat-trick in TNPL history and he picked up 6/32 in 4overs. A wicket apiece for P Saravan Kumar and V Athisayaraj Davidson. They bowled well, but the batting let them down a bit in the end.
So, Dindigul Dragons beat Trichy Grand Cholas by 16 runs and collect two points in the points table. Stay tuned for the presentations.
