So, that also brings an end to our coverage of this game between Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers. For now, this is me Hiren Kumar signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash and scorer/analyst Bishal Mandel. CHEERS!!!
Thisara Perera (Colombo Strikers Captain): "I'm very happy with the performance, there's nothing to complain about. Our bowling unit did really well.

I focused on minimizing boundaries and keeping them under 150. Our batting unit is very strong; Gurbaz, Angelo, and Waseem performed excellently.

I knew our bowlers could do something special on this track, which is why we picked this squad. No matter the pitch, we have the bench strength."
Charith Asalanka (Jaffna Kings Captain): "We were poor in all three departments I think. We could have done better with the bat. It is usually a spinning track here and we needed adjust accordingly. We are happy and positioned on the second post and hopefully we finish there."
Shadab Khan (Player of the Match): "(On hat-trick ball) I think that was out but it seemed to be a technology problem in DRS. I was a bit confused when the umpire said not out.

The pitch was slower, so we had to mix things up. You always go for runs in T20 cricket, but I just tried to bowl in the right areas.

The pitch helped us spinners, it was holding and gripping a bit. I struggled over the last three months, but that's the beauty of cricket. Sometimes you don't perform, and now I am. I hope this continues."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: SHADAB KHAN
Time for the post-match presentation...
22:31 IST and Local Time: ALL OVER! Colombo Strikers win by 9 wickets and stay alive in the race of playoffs. They have two more games to play. Jaffna lose this game but they have already qualified but their chances of finishing in the top 2 will be in trouble because of this defeat. So here is how the game panned out.

Opting to bowl first, Colombo Strikers were spot on with the ball and restricted the Jaffna Kings to just 109/9 in their 20 overs. They kept picking up wickets consistently and never let the Jaffna batters settle. Binura Fernando was brilliant with the new ball and picked up 2 wickets to his name. In the middle overs, Shadab Khan was again outstanding and ended his spell with the figures of 4/10 in his 4 overs.

With the bat, Jaffna were pretty ordinary and failed to build partnerships in the middle. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth was the top scorer for them and scored 25* batting lower down the order.

Coming to the chase, 109 was never a threatening score for the Colombo Strikers. They were off to a flying start in the powerplay. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer for them and remained unbeaten on 57* runs. Mohammad Waseem also assisted him well in the middle and scored 35* runs.

With the ball, the Jaffna bowlers did not have enough runs on the board and were also expensive. Pramod Madushan was the only wicket taker for them and picked up a wicket. All the teams remain alive with 3 more league games to go in LPL 2024.

Stay around for the presentations.
9.5 E Malinga to M Waseem
6 SIX! Waseem finishes things off with a biggie! Full and just outside off. Waseem sits back and heaves it over long-on for a biggie to finish the game. Colombo Strikers win by 9 wickets and 61 balls to spare.
9.4 E Malinga to M Waseem
0 Back of a length wide outside off. Waseem swings and misses.
DROPPED! Nothing going Jaffna's way tonight.
9.3 E Malinga to R Gurbaz
1 In the air and dropped again! Poor fielding by Jaffna Kings. Full-length delivery on the stumps. Gurbaz looks to tonk it downtown but mistimes it high in the night sky. The cover fielder inside the ring settles underneath it and drops a regulation catch.
9.3 E Malinga to R Gurbaz
WD Short of a length delivery angling down the leg. Gurbaz shuffles a tad and leaves it alone. Wide signaled.
9.2 E Malinga to R Gurbaz
0 Back of a length delivery angling into the batter. Gurbaz backs away and swings at it but is hurried by the pace, mistiming it to mid-off.
100 up for Colombo Strikers. Just 6 runs more needed for victory.
9.1 E Malinga to R Gurbaz
6 SIX! Gurbaz is unstoppable. Over the wicket. Short of a length delivery on the stumps. Gurbaz swivels around and hammers the pull over long leg for a biggie.
22:23 IST and Local Time: TIMEOUT! Just 12 runs more needed for victory. Mere a formality left in this game as Colombo require just 2 hits to seal this one. They will look to finish it in the next couple of overs and improve their NRR.
