Well that's all from IPL's El Clasico folks! Chennai Super Kings reign supreme over their arch rivals Mumbai Indians! Join us back tomorrow as the IPL 2024 bandwagon roles on with more action!

Until then, this is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my co-commentators AkshayaKrishna Polya and Siddharth Gulati, and our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav! See you on the next one.
Matheesha Pathirana (Player of the Match): "When we are bowling in the powerplay, I was very nervous. Post that, Dhoni bhai came and said to keep it calm, after that we executed our plans well. My approach is to keep it simple and target the stumps.

I dont think about results, I think about my execution If I execute well, the results will follow. Sometimes I have to use variations and sometimes I need to stick to targeting the stumps. I want to say, I was carrying a little niggle before two weeks and all the staff and management supported me through the back pain."
Player of the Match: Matheesha Pathirana
Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): "Our young wicket-keeper (Dhoni) scoring those 3 sixes helped us out a lot. To start off with you always need extra 10-15 runs on this type of wicket. Middle phases of the game, Bumrah and co bowled well and pulled it back but we were able to cross the 200 run-mark.

With the ball as well we executed out plans really well. These kind of venues demand both the skills, you need to be on the mark with both. Whenever Pathirana came on he nailed those yorkers, and Tushar and Shardul aided him well.

We just need to keep it simple and encourage everyone to be in a good headspace. Jinx (Ajinkya Rahane) was carrying a bit of a niggle and we thought it could help him to open and I am fine to play anywhere."
Most Fours in the Match: Rohit Sharma (11 boundaries)
Super Sixes of the Match: Rohit Sharma (5 maximums)
Fantasy Player of the Match: Rohit Sharma (150 points)
Electric Striker of the Match: Shivam Dube (66 off 38 balls at an awe-inspiring SR of 173.68)
Time for the post-match presentation
Shardul Thakur (CSK): "Pretty happy. A much-needed win for us. Never easy playing against MI at Wankhede. The ball flies here. We held our nerve better and got the win. Credit to Rohit (Sharma), Ruturaj (Gaikwad), and (Shivam) Dube for the way they batted.

"We spoke about keeping it simple. Bowl according to the field. This is a repeated pitch and MI earlier played on it. We felt we needed to bowl slower ones into the pitch. Hats off to Pathirana! He delivered the yorkers perfectly.

"It was about being brave. When Rohit was going strong, we felt the game was sliding away a little but we wanted to challenge Rohit to hit on the bigger side."
Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): "I mean, definitely 207 was gettable. They bowled really well. Pathirana was the difference in the end. He came in the middle overs. They (CSK) were smart with their plans and used the longer boundary well. They got a hang of it (match).

They have a man behind the stumps (Dhoni) telling them what's working. The ball was slightly gripping, and they got ahead of the game. Until Pathirana came, we were on course for the total. It was about batting well and keeping the intent going.

(on plans against Dube) It was about what was best at that time; we could have done something different. I like to play percentage cricket, it would have been difficult for him against seamers rather than spin.

Now, I think we are on the road for the next few games. The next four matches, to be exact. We need to keep positive intent and need to keep our intensity up."
4/28 - Matheesha Pathirana's best figures in the Indian Premier League.
11:23 PM IST, Local Time | Chennai Super Kings seal a brilliant victory at WankheDEN! They defeat their fiercest rivals in Mumbai Indians by 20 runs to take home the 2 points! Despite Rohit's brilliant unbeaten century it is CSK who come out on the top!

MI won the toss and elected to bowl first, a minimum of 200 runs were required to setup an interesting chase. After Ajinkya Rahane lost his bearings early and the experiment came to an end. Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. went about their business in emphatic fashion.

The CSK skipper scored a blistering 69 runs off 40 balls to put his team into a commanding position and following the loss of Rachin, Ruturaj was aided by Shivam Dube's unbeaten 66 runs from 38 balls in a scintillating 90 run-stand! However, it was MS Dhoni's 4-ball-20-runs cameo in the last over that pushed CSK's total to 206/4 post the first 20 overs!

Come the chase, the MI opening duo of Rohit-Ishan carved apart the CSK bowlers in the powerplay to score 63/0 at the end of the first 6 overs. Post the carnage, CSK introduced Pathirana into the attack and that was where they turned things around. Pathirana's double wicket introduction saw MI lose Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession.

Rohit Sharma continues to go about his business as he formed a threatening partnership with Tilak Varma for the 3rd wicket but it was Pathirana once again who broke the 60 run partnership to put MI under more pressure. Post the loss of  Tilak Varma, the big hitters of MI fell like a house of cards as Hardik Pandya, Tim David and Romario Shephered all fell within the next 27 runs to put this chase out of MI's reach.

Pathirana was the starman for CSK with the ball as he finished with the figures of 4/28 from his 4 overs to win the game for his side!

The Hitman stayed unbeaten on 105 runs off 63 balls but eventually MI fell short by 20 runs tonight. 4 defeats from 6 games for MI now, and their season looks in major trouble. CSK meanwhile, strengthen their position in the race for playoffs as they now have 8 points on the board and the 3rd position on the table.

1 That's it. A splendid knock by Rohit, but he was left with too much to do. CSK win by 20 runs, clinch their first away victory this season. Wide yorker, outside off, Rohit brings his bat down in time, squeezes it out square of the wicket for a single. What a spell by Pathirana! 4/28 in dewy conditions. Impressive to say the least! Let's recall CSK's final over while batting. Hardik leaking 26 runs unarguably made the difference.
