That's all from the curtain raiser of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, folks! The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, have started their season campaign on a high note with a win over their arch-rivals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It's time to wrap up this coverage as well.

For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators Akshay Bhide and AkshayaKrishna Polya, who, along with scorers/analysts Raju Khariya and Paras Yadav, brought all the live action of this inaugural contest.
Player of the Match: Mustafizur Rahman
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings Captain): "Yeah, obviously, in total control I would say. Two or three overs here and there but the spinners pulled back things. I would say 10-15 runs more but credit to them for the way they played in the end.

Quick wickets was the turning point. It helped us control the game in the next two or three overs and I would say getting Faf and Maxwell in quick succession was very good.

I have always enjoyed captaining. I haven't felt any added pressure. I have always enjoyed captaining the state side and I didn't feel any pressure. Obviously, I had Mahi bhai by my side.

Everyone in our squad are experienced players. Jinx is also batting really well. Everyone know how to play and who to take on. Everyone have their roles fixed and it helps us.

Lot of positives but two to three things to work on. Every batter got runs on the board but it is always good to have one of the top three batters to bat till the end."
On-the-go fours: Faf du Plessis (8 boundaries)
Sixes of the Match: Anuj Rawat (3 sixes)
Ultimate Fantasy Player of the Match: Mustafizur Rahman
Electric Striker of the Match: Rachin Ravindra
12:13 AM IST, Local Time: Time for the post-match presentation.
Rachin Ravindra: "Yeah, I think it was a pretty complete performance by us. Obviously, the wicket was a good one and we sort of held our nerve. I mean it helped having the guys sort of finish the innings and batting with guys like Rahane and Rutu, very calm heads. So, allowed me to kind of play my game.

I wouldn't call myself a star just yet, but I guess it's just the adapt piece. Luckily we had sort of four or five days of good training to get into it and it's just an intent thing as well. I find it easier probably going red ball to white ball because your positions are quite similar and it's just about trying to bring that calming presence, trying to slow the game down. Something that I think this team is very good at doing and such great senior guys in the change room to learn from.

Yeah, I mean it's been good, I guess the wickets have been a bit different in training so I wasn't quite sure if I was hitting the ball well enough or not but I guess it's just trusting the work you've done in the past and backing yourself in the middle. But yeah, it was nice to get that first catch. Takes a little bit of the edge away, a little bit of the nervous energy, but it was cool to just be out there, and experience this amazing crowd and the fans for the first time. So thank you to all who turned up."
Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain): “When you play here, you always think you have to get yourself ahead. Chennai is a very good team and they bowl really well in the middle overs with their spinners. They bowled well and our batters had to rebuild. I feel we were 15-20 runs short.

We were behind in trying to get ahead of the game. They were still in front of the game despite us pulling it back. We just tried to get some wickets with the short ball in the middle overs but there weren’t enough runs on the board for us.

If you look at the stats, it’s still in favor of batting first. It looked on the drier side. Some of the spinners got purchase as the ball held a bit. Against Dube, we went to our seamers but it didn’t worked out.

It’s really good for Dinesh. Someone who hasn’t played much cricket in the last year, it was good to start that way. Anuj also showed good promise. Tonight, he showed great composure for a young guy and it’s a positive sign for us.”
CSK make it 8-1 against RCB in Chennai.
11:54 PM IST, Local Time: Chennai Super Kings kick off their IPL 2024 campaign on a high note, they thump Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare in the curtain-raiser of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, RCB got off to a rollicking start as their skipper, Faf du Plessis went honkers and bonkers from the word go and scored at a rapid pace. However, Mustafizur Rahman trapped Faf for 35 runs, drawing first blood for CSK.

Faf's wicket triggered a mini-collapse for RCB as they lost their next four wickets in quick succession, reeling at 78/5 in the 12th over, which also included the dismissal of Virat Kohli (21 off 20). Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik then formed a partnership in the middle, steadying the sinking ship. The duo accelerated in the death overs, scoring briskly. Anuj Rawat played a valuable knock of 48 runs off 25 balls, while DK remained unbeaten on 38 runs off 26 balls, helping RCB post a decent total of 173/6 in 20 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman shone with the ball for the hosts, claiming four crucial wickets, while Deepak Chahar celebrated a solitary wicket.

In pursuit of 173 runs, CSK got off to a solid start as Rachin Ravindra came out all guns blazing, scoring at a brisk pace from the word go. Ruturaj Gaikwad also appeared to be in good touch but failed to sustain the momentum, falling prey to Yash Dayal after scoring a run-a-ball 15 runs. Ravindra's onslaught was brought to a halt by Karn Sharma on 37 runs off 15 balls.

Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell paired up in the middle, keeping the scoreboard ticking at a decent pace. They played sensibly, capitalizing on loose deliveries. However, they couldn't bat till the end and departed for 27 and 22 runs, respectively, both falling to the guile of Cameron Green's short ball.

It seemed like the match would go down to the wire following the dismissals of both set batters, but Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja had other plans tonight. The southpaws batted with authority, remaining unbeaten on 34 and 25 runs, respectively, to help the defending champions secure victory by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare.

RCB bowlers failed to defend 173 runs. Cameron Green bagged a couple of wickets for RCB, while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma contributed with a solitary wicket.

Stick around for the post-match presentation....
