We have seen everything tonight! Rishabh Pant coming back with his first half-century for a while; Pathirana's scorching yorkers; Khaleel's brilliant new ball spell; Rahane's timing, and at last, Thala MS Dhoni's sizzling show turning back the clocks! DC won their first game of the season, and CSK lost their first of the season. The action continues with MI and RR facing each other at Wankhede tomorrow!

For now, it's me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Sidharth Gulati, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav, brought you this memorable game of cricket. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Khaleel Ahmed (POTM): "Yes, sir! It's all because of my consistent hard work at the domestic level. I have played a lot of matches in the last six months which has helped me know my game better. I have worked hard to swing the ball, and now I am getting results for it.

I feel really happy when the ball swings and the batters get beaten. I have tried to figure out how I can keep myself fit. The red-ball game teaches you a lot about how the ball is coming out of the hand.

Of Course! The ultimate goal is to get back in the Indian team. It's definitely the goal of mine. Kindly keep me blessing the same way."
Player of the Match: Khaleel Ahmed
Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals Skipper): "I think the bowlers have been very good today. We spoke about learning from our mistakes and did well. Shaw has been playing well in the nets and has been working hard in the last two weeks. We thought it's time for us to give him a chance.

(On using Mukesh in the death overs) It depends on the situations. We decided to give him in the death tonight and it was good to see him bowl that way.

As a cricketer, I decided to give my 100% everyday. It took time as I wasn't playing cricket for one and a half year but I thought I have to give myself some time to get ready.

One and a half years, I was looking forward to getting on the field. I was waiting for this because I'm a cricketer and I wanted to get on the field. There was self-belief and I thought it was important for me to get on the field."
Most Fours of the Match: David Warner (5 Fours)
Super Sixes of the Match: David Warner (3 Sixes so indeed is MS Dhoni but Warner has scored more runs)
Fantasy Player of the Match: Matheesha Pathirana (107 points)
Electric Striker of the Match: MS Dhoni (37* off 16 balls at a strike-rate of 231.25)
11:37 PM IST and Local Time: We are ready with the post-match presentations...
Anrich Nortje (DC): "Yeah, thank you. The body has felt good tonight. I am slowly getting into my full rhythm. The training is paying off.

(On wide yorkers) I'm focusing hard on where I want to land it. Yeah, like I said, my training is going well. It's something new for me. It's all about execution.

Definitely! We are building up slowly with the ball. The guys are bowling excellently with the new ball. Khaleel, Ishant, and Mukesh swing and move the ball regularly. It makes my work a lot easier and exciting when I come as a third or fourth change bowler (chuckles).
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings Skipper): "I think I was pretty much happy with how we came back after the first six overs. With the way they started, 60 for no loss, to restrict them to 190 was a good effort.

I felt the wicket played same throughout the course of the 40 overs. I felt Rachin was finding it a bit difficult. There was some spongy bounce. We didn’t get off to a good total and it proved to be the difference.

At the halfway stage, I felt it was gettable. But after 3-4 overs, there was extravagant seam movement and we were just catching up. We didn’t get big overs of 10 or 15 runs and as a result, we felt short.

Not really. I feel Deepak is used to bowling three overs. He bowled well in the first three overs. But I feel the last over of the powerplay was expensive.

After two games, you can expect the third game to go against you . To finish on the losing side by 20 runs, it was about two or three hits and our bowlers also did a decent job."
23:23 IST and Local Time | That’s it. Delhi Capitals open their account at IPL 2024 with a convincing 20-run win over Chennai Super Kings. Skipper Rishabh Pant’s knock and DC pace bowlers’ opening spell were the crucial factors in the ‘hosts’ getting over the line. The crowd also witnessed 'The MS Dhoni Show, but it wasn’t enough as CSK were left with too much to get in the death overs.

Chasing a target of 192, CSK were off to a disappointing start as both openers Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the mandatory PowerPlay. A brilliant opening spell by Khaleel Ahmed made sure that DC gathered momentum. CSK No. 3 Ajinkya Rahane then displayed form, but Daryl Mitchell initially found it tough to hit big shots. The two batters eventually brought CSK’s innings back on track before the latter fell to Axar Patel. Rahane and Sameer Rizvi were soon back in the hut, leaving the visitors in trouble. Impact Substitute Shivam Dube couldn’t connect most of the deliveries and got out without a useful contribution. Dhoni then clobbered a few boundaries in the last few overs, but his magic couldn’t prevent CSK from suffering their first defeat this season.

Earlier, after opting to bat, DC openers were off to a cautious beginning with both David Warner and Prithvi Shaw countering the early movement by going at a run a ball off the first four overs. Both batters soon switched gears and set the platform for the remaining batters to follow. However, CSK made a comeback by removing Warner and Shaw in quick succession. Things got tough in the middle overs for DC as Matheesha Pathirana delivered two unplayable yorkers to get the better of Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs. It looked like DC wouldn’t finish as they would’ve expected, but Pant smashed 17 runs off Pathirana's last over, hammering his first half-century since his comeback. 48 runs off the final four overs guided DC to 191/5 - a total they successfully defended.

Stay tuned for post-match presentation...

6 SIXXXX!!! BANG! Dhoni finishes things off in style but fails to take his team over the line! The crowd at Vizag are the lucky ones as they see a vintage MSD on show! Dhoni had a mountain to climb and he did his level best to squeeze in on the losing margin.

141.8 kmph. A low full toss outside the off-stump. Dhoni, on the front foot, gets underneath it, swings hard at it and spanks it way over extra cover for a huge six. Dhoni gets a massive reception but it's DC who have managed to break their two-match losing streak and win this one by 20 runs. CSK lose their first game of the season.

0 Dot ball. Yorker outside off. Dhoni reaches out for it and squeezes it to extra cover.

4 FOURRRR!!! Smashed downtown! Bowls a full toss outside the off-stump. 143.7 kmph. MSD gets underneath it and spanks it across the line with a little swivel. Smashes it up and over wide mid-on. It bounces in front of the fence and goes over wide long-on.
