Milestone
That's it from the CSK-dominated fixture in Chepauk. The hosts slapped GT by a massive margin and moved onto the top of the points table. Tomorrow, SRH and MI will be involved in another cracking encounter.

For now, it's me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Sidharth Gulati and Deepak Prakash, who, alongside our scorers/analysts Zeeshan Naiyer and Chandan Kr Singh, brought you all the live-action of this match. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Shivam Dube (Player of the Match): "Definitely this franchise is something different from all others. So this franchise is giving me the freedom as I feel they want me to do it better and I also want them to win some matches from my side.

I worked in that way as well so it is helping me. And I know they're going to bowl me on some short balls over there so I'm ready for that. They want me to go on a higher strike rate against the bowlers. So I'm trying that only."

Heaviest Defeats to Gujarat Titans in terms of Runs in IPL

-by 63 runs against CSK in Chennai, 2024

-by 27 runs against MI in Mumbai, 2023

-by 15 runs against CSK in Chennai, 2023
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings Skipper): "Today's game was near to perfect game in the sense of batting, bowling, fielding all three departments. It was right on the target and especially against a team like Gujarat we needed to come up with this type of performance. I think in Chennai especially when you are not really sure about how the wicket will be, it's always important that you bat well irrespective of whether you are batting first or batting second.

I thought personally Rachin batted brilliantly in the powerplay, took the game away, and then from there on I think we were always ahead of them. It was just about managing wickets and managing risk and I feel even Jinks played a good role and even Shivam played brilliantly, and not to forget Rizvi.

[Talking about Dube] Mahi bhai and the management have been boosting his confidence. Shivam knows his role well, which is a big advantage for us. I share the same sentiment; I'm quite impressed. The addition of two or three youngsters might make a significant difference."

We are ready with the post-match presentations!
Deepak Chahar (CSK) (translated from Hindi): "Generally, I deliver 3 overs in the PowerPlay. It's about performing for the team.

(On the new two-bouncer per over rule) It keeps the batters guessing. Creates doubt for them.

(On the Chepauk pitch) Good bounce, but it's usually slower.

(On CSK's change in captaincy) I look forward to learning from both MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Sometimes I get confused where to see. Ruturaj is leading well."
Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Skipper): "We were outplayed. I think CSK's execution with the ball was excellent. We wanted big runs in the PowerPlay, but failed to do so.

We were expecting to chase anywhere between 190-200, but we can talk about how we could've stopped a few more boundaries. I think it's a great learning curve for the team. Better to have such a game at the start of the tournament.

We let ourselves down with the batting. Experiencing lot of different things. We have had two finals in the past two years. Exciting times ahead."
11:28 PM IST and Local Time: Chennai Super Kings bash Gujarat Titans by 63 runs and take away another 2 points with them. This is the seventh time in a row this season that the home team has crossed the victory line!

Earlier in the evening, Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rachin Ravindra (46 off 20) set CSK off to a flying start, thrashing the visitors left, right and centre. Ruturaj Gaikwad played the second fiddle in the opening partnership of 62 runs. Rashid Khan halted Ravindra’s bashing in the last over of the Powerplay.

Ajinkya Rahane (12 off 12) was struggling to get going and was stumped in trying to take on R Sai Kishore. Though Rahane failed to go big, he supported Gaikwad in the 42-run stand for the second wicket. Dube was promoted to number 4 and straightaway tonked the left-arm spinner into the stands. The CSK skipper was taken care of by Spencer Johnson four short of his half-century.

Dube (51 off 23) continued his merry way and smashed five 6s and two 4s on his way to a cracking fifty. The southpaw had Daryl Mitchell (24 off 20) in support, and the duo added 58 runs for the 4th wicket. Sameer Rizvi (14 off 6), playing his maiden IPL innings, came out to be a super hit as the right-hander slogged a couple of lusty blows and helped the franchise get closer to 200. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 7 off 3, with Mitchell getting run out on the last ball as CSK posted an imposing total of 206/6.

For GT, Rashid Khan picked up a couple of wickets, but they were pretty expensive, while Sai Kishore, Johnson, and Mohit Sharma each took a wicket.

Chasing a massive score, Gujarat Titans lost both openers inside the Powerplay, courtesy of Deepak Chahar. While Shubman Gill (8 off 5) was trapped in front, Wriddhiman Saha (21 off 17) pulled one straight to deep backward square leg immediately after getting struck on the helmet. Vijay Shankar (12 off 12) was sent packing to the pavilion by Daryl Mitchell, with MS Dhoni taking a brilliant catch.

Impact player B Sai Sudharsan was joined by David Miller as the duo stitched together 41 runs for the 4th wicket. A stunning catch from Rahane at deep mid-wicket saw Miller (21 off 16) crawling back to the pavilion. Sudharsan (37 off 31) was the top-scorer for GT but failed to get going at a good pace. Once he was out, the 2022 IPL champions lost their way completely. They lost wickets like nine pins and could manage only 143/8 in 20 overs.

For CSK, Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande grabbed a couple of wickets each, while Mitchell and Pathirana picked up one each.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
