That's all from this high-scoring affair, folks! Russell and Klassen wreaked havoc with the bat for their respective teams, but it was Harshit Rana who stole the limelight with his excellent last-over bowling, helping KKR win by a razor-thin margin of 4 runs.

We hope you enjoyed our coverage and had a great Super Saturday! It's time to bid adieu. For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of co-commentators Akshay Bhide, AkshayaKrishna Polya, Hitesh Peddurwar, who along with scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought all the actions of this last ball thriller. CHEERS!
Andre Russell (Player of the Match): "[Does he keep track of his strike rate?] Not really. Sometimes stuff pops up on my Instagram and I realize how well I've been striking the ball, which is just a cool reminder to know that you're doing well. So I'm happy with the way I'm batting and grateful for the win tonight.

I just try to react to whatever comes my way. I know, based on the last year or two, bowlers have been exceptionally good at bowling to me, and they plan very carefully when they bowl to me. So I've been digging runs out in the back end, and I'm still figuring out how to score because they're going to have their plans. I realize everyone is coming to me with a plan, so I have to be ready.

Yeah, when it starts being on the bench, walking around with towels, and then I get the opportunity and I make use of it, and then since I've been a permanent fixture in the 11th, so I'm just happy to keep contributing and this franchise means a lot to me. They have shown faith and confidence in me over the years. So what I did tonight is just to say keep supporting and I'm happy to contribute every time I put this jersey on.

[Harshit Rana] I think his body language was on point in that last over. He wanted the ball, and that is the body language that we all need as professionals. If he had shied away from it, maybe it would have gone the other way.

He told me that he wanted the last over, so he claimed it, and he did deliver for us, with the first ball going for six. I still had a little doubt there, but he came back strong and got the job done."
Player of the Match: Andre Russell
Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders Skipper): " Yeah, right from the 17th over I had butterflies in my stomach, to be honest in the final over I felt that anything could happen, as only 13 runs were needed and we probably didn't have the most experienced bowler bowling at that moment, but I had belief on him and just told him to back yourself.

(On Harshit's final Over) To be honest he was a bit nervous when I looked into his eyes while he was coming to bowl the final over, I just told him this is your moment buddy, even if we lose it's fine and just back yourself and execute whatever I say and what messages we got from inside there was a bit cluster in the between but I tried to calm him down.

(On Sunil Narine and Andre Russell) Yeah Obviously they have got such a big experience under their back, Andre Russell the way he started with the bat, I am elated to see him the way he batted and he performed well with the ball too. Running around on the field, and Sunil Narine too, it's fantastic to have them in the team.

It's good to start with a win, it gives a lot of confidence and learning too, you carry a lot of stuff from the ground, and there are many areas we need to improve. Fielding is the one thing we need to work on. It was too loud out in the middle, I wanted to move someone on the deep mid-wicket region a bit but he wasn't able to hear it."
On-the-go Fours of the Match: Abhishek Sharma (4 fours)
Sixes of the Match: Heinrich Klaasen (8 sixes)
Fantasy Player of the Match: Andre Russell
Electric Striker of the Match: Andre Russell
Time for post-match presentation ceremony....
Ramandeep Singh (KKR): “I enjoyed my time in the middle. I tried to play with a positive intent. Special thanks to Gautam sir and Abhishek sir for backing me. I was striking well in domestic cricket but these guys backed me to play in the same way here.

I really want to play like him (Andre Russell). Hopefully, one day, I’ll play like that.

The plan from the outside was to take pace off the ball. Klaasen was hitting the pace-on deliveries and the message from the dugout was to take pace off.

The crowd has been amazing and we loved playing here.”
Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad Skipper): “Yeah, close game in the end. Wonderful game of cricket. I thought for the most part, we were happy with how we bowled. But when Andre Russell gets going, it’s hard to stop him.

(On bowling to Andre Russell) You do your planning but it’s pretty tough to bowl to him. He played some good shots and there were a couple of balls we would have bowled differently. But credit goes to him.

It’s those ones that either go one way or the other. Credit to Klaasen for the way he played and get us close. First of all, we did well to compete against a team that is great on its home ground. Yeah, happy with the decision to bowl first."
11:24 PM IST, Local Time: PHEW! Harshit Rana, the nerves of steel, take a bow, man! An excellent last over from the right-arm quick has helped KKR win the last-ball thriller by a slender margin of 4 runs. A perfect gift for KKR fans at Eden Gardens! A valiant knock from Heinrich Klaasen goes in vain.

Let's have a brief recap of this enthralling contest. Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Phil Salt provided a solid start to KKR, scoring at a brisk pace. However, he didn’t get any support from the other end, as they lost 4 wickets in quick succession.

Ramandeep Singh played a cameo of 35 runs off 17 balls in the middle overs, putting the batting back on track. Meanwhile, Salt batted according to the situation and notched up his fifty but failed to convert it into a big score, departing for 54 runs.

It looked like KKR would be unable to touch the 160-run mark as well, but Andre Russell came out to bat with different plans. He pummeled SRH bowlers all around the park, scoring an unbeaten 65 runs off just 25 balls, helping KKR post a mammoth total of 208/7 in 20 overs. Rinku Singh played second fiddle in partnership with Russell and contributed 23 runs.

T Natarajan shone with the ball for SRH, claiming three wickets, while Markande and Cummins chipped in with two and one wickets, respectively.

In pursuit of a hefty 208 runs, SRH got off to a rollicking start as Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma played with authority from the get-go, adding 60 runs for the first wicket. However, both openers failed to carry their momentum and departed after scoring 32 runs each.

Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram tried their best to build a partnership in the middle but failed to stay at the crease for long, departing for 20 and 18 runs, respectively, leaving their side in a spot of bother.

KKR bowlers did well in the middle overs to put a brake on the scoring rate, and the required run rate crept up to 20 runs in the last three overs. All eyes were on Heinrich Klaasen, and living up to the expectation, the right-hander wreaked havoc with the bat in the slog overs, turning the tide in favor of SRH. Shahbaz Ahmed played a crucial cameo of 5-ball 16 runs.

However, fate had other plans for the visitors tonight, as Klaasen departed at the wrong moment in the game when SRH needed 5 runs off 2 balls. SRH fell just 4 runs short of the target as Pat Cummins failed to score any runs on the final ball.

Harshit Rana held his nerve till the end and managed to defend 13 runs off the final over. The right-arm quick bagged three crucial wickets for KKR. Andre Russell chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine celebrated a solitary wicket.

So, Kolkata Knight Riders win by a razor-thin margin of 4 runs to start their campaign on a high note. Stick around for the post-match presentation.

19.6 H Rana to P Cummins
0 And Rana's off-cutter does the trick for Kolkata Knight Riders, who open their account with a victory in IPL 2024. Good length delivery, 110.5 kph, outside off, Cummins, facing his first ball, gets down on one knee for the sweep behind square, is beaten on the outside edge, keeper collects it after one bounce, and that seals the game for the two-time IPL winners. Rana's elated and so are his teammates. A brave move by Shreyas to go with the young seamer ahead of Russell, who at one stage was an automatic choice. But what an effort by Klaasen! UNARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST T20 BATTERS IN THE MODERN ERA.
