How about this catch from Sophia Smale?? πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»
Lauren Winfield-Hill (Oval Invincibles Women Captain): "Well I really enjoyed the way we played tonight. Paige batted really well and she took calculative risks which worked well for us. Chamari will be back for us and I am sure Paige will be happy to give her that spot.

We have a really good group of players and I am really proud of the way we played tonight. We knew 150 was a par score here but still we had to bowl well which we did as well."
Paige Scholfield (Player of the Match) : "I am absolutely buzzing today with my performance. I usually come in at the end but I enjoyed opening the batting tonight. Yeah I feel like the wicket played really well as it had some tennis ball bounce and I backed myself.

We bat till 11 and I trusted myself because I know I have them in my back. She (Chamari Athapaththu) can bat in my place and I would be happy to bat down the order. We are one of the best fielding side and we are proud of ourselves tonight."

9:51 PM IST, 5:21 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Oval Invincibles Women start the Women’s Hundred 2024 with a win. A clinical performance from them sees them defeat the Birmingham Phoenix Women by 45 runs and start their campaign on a winning note. The two-time champions display a perfect all-around performance in front of their home crowd. The Birmingham Phoenix Women, on the other hand, were below-par in all facets of the game.

Chasing 151, the Birmingham Phoenix Women got off to a decent start. Suzie Bates and Sterre Kalis put 32 between them at the top of the order. Marizanne Kapp provided the first breakthrough for the Invincibles Women by dismissing Bates on six. Skipper Ellyse Perry was run out in the fifth set as she departed on a seven-ball duck. Kalis got cleaned up on 17 in the very next set as Phoenix Women were reduced to 32/3.

Sophie Devine along with Amy Jones led the recovery work. Both put 32 between them for the fourth wicket before Devine departed on 13. Jones (21) and Seren Smale (4) were dismissed in the 11th set. It was too much to do for the lower-order batters as the Birmingham Phoenix Women got bundled out on 105 in 92 balls to lose the game by 45 runs. Amanda-Jade Wellington of Oval Invincibles bowled outstandingly and registered figures of 3/9 in her 20 balls. Mady Villiers also chipped in with a couple of scalps.

Earlier, the Oval Invincibles Women were asked to bat first. Skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill and Paige Scholfield opened the batting for them. The opening pair put 28 for the first wicket before Winfield-Hill got cleaned up on 12. Alice Capsey joined Scholfield and started building a partnership for the hosts. Both played some fantastic shots and kept the Phoenix Women at bay.

Scholfield kept finding boundaries at regular intervals and brought up her fifty off just 28 balls. Scholfield and Capsey put 90 between them before the former fell on 40-ball 71. Her knock comprised 12 fours. Capsey teed off in the death overs. She hit some lusty blows and got to her fifty 39 balls before falling on 52 in the last set. A flurry of wickets at the back end of the innings meant that the Oval Invincibles Women finished on 150/5. Emily Arlott picked up two scalps for the visitors.

The target of 151 was too much for the Birmingham Phoenix Women as they fell short by 45 runs. Their batters never got going. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got knocked over on 105 in the penultimate set.
