Phew!!! Take a moment and breathe! We just finished a memorable game in the history of cricket. Everything is possible in Group 1 now. Except for Bangladesh, all three teams—India, Australia, and Afghanistan—have at least one win. The Men in Blue are at the top with four points. Both Australia and Afghanistan have two points each and are in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, on net run rates. Anyone can qualify to the semi-finals.

Two more crucial fixtures are due to arrive on Monday, which will decide the fate of this Super 8 Group. India will face Australia at St Lucia, while Afghanistan take on Bangladesh at Kingstown.

Two more banger matches coming up from Group 2 as well before the blockbusters of Group 1. Don't forget to tune in with us for these interesting contests. For now, this is me AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal, brought you all the live-action of this mouth-watering fixture.

We will meet again. Until then, cheers!
Hat-tricks in successive international fixtures:

Wasim Akram vs Sri Lanka in Tests in 1999

Pat Cummins vs Bangladesh and Afghanistan in T20Is in 2024 (World Cup)

Jimmy Matthews (Australia) grabbed 2 hat-tricks in the same Test match versus South Africa at Old Trafford, Manchester, in 1912.
Rashid Khan (Afghanistan Captain): "I think this is a massive win for us as a nation. In the World Cup, we beat the champions (Australia). It is what we were dreaming of in the last three years.

Yeah, I think it was important for us to play with the same XI. We made a few changes against India as we wanted to change according to the opposition. The same players who were performing for us in the group stages for us, they did the job for us.

I think 140 was a good total on this pitch. We didn't finish well. The opening partnership gave us a great start. This was the total we had in our minds. Anything over 130, we knew we have the skills to defend it. As long as we keep calm and keep believing.

That is the beauty of the team. We have too many all-rounders and it makes the job easier. Whenever you give him (Naveen-ul-Haq) the ball, he is happy to deliver. The way Gulbadin bowled today, whenever you give him the ball, he uses his experience and does the job for us. Nabi too started well and got us that early wicket.

I am sure everyone back home must be proud of us and enjoyed this win. Big game next up and we have all the chances. Hopefully we can now win the next game and go through to the semis."
Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "They probably got 20 too many. And honestly, they played well today. We were outplayed today.

We definitely talked about batting first here before the game. We tried to get as much information of the surface. But still, I'm happy to bowl first here.

It was an off night for us in the field. We are an experienced group. We will be back next game.

We knew what we were going to expect tonight. it wasn't the easiest of the wicket to bat on. But Afghanistan bowled well tonight.

First and foremost, we need to win and there is no better team to do it against in world cricket. But, credit to Afghanistan for pulling it off tonight."
Most consecutive innings in T20 World Cups with at least one wicket:

16 Adam Zampa (2021-24*)

15 Graeme Swann (2009-12)

Most successive wins in T20 World Cups:

7 - England (2010-2012)

7 - India (2012-2014)

6 - Australia (2010)

6 - Sri Lanka (2009)

6 - India (2007-2009)
Best bowling figures against Australia in T20 World Cups:

4/11 - Ravichandran Ashwin in Mirpur, 2014

4/20 - Gulbadin Naib in Kingstown, 2024

4/26 - Shadab Khan in Dubai, 2021
Gulbadin Naib, Player of the match: "First of all thanks to the almighty. We were waiting for it for a long time. It is a great moment for me, for my nation. It is a big achievement for our cricket. No words to say, thanks to fans who have supported us in our journey. We have worked hard in the last two months and it has paid off.

If you saw in our innings, it wasn't coming onto the bat. That's what I used while bowling. Thank god Rashid trusted me again. It is a team effort. Rahmanullah, Zadran and also Naveen bowled well. Thank god we finally beat Australia.

It is a great achievement for us as a team. This is a big achievement for us it, in this World Cup, we played good cricket and first defeated New Zealand. Australia is not an easy side and we are lucky to have this kind of stuff, the management who backs and the team who backs everyone.

At the start of the tournament, we spoke about every single game. We played well in the first round and then obviously in Super 8, Bangladesh is a good side. We will rest tomorrow and then focus on what needs to be done in that game."
Player of the Match: Gulbadin Naib
9:28 AM IST & 11:58 PM Local Time: Afghanistan script a historic win over Australia and keep Group 1 alive with a few crucial matches coming up! An inspired bowling performance from the Asian side has got them their first victory over the Aussies in any format of the game!

Mitchell Marsh, the Australian captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a tacky surface and also rested Mitchell Starc to bring in Ashton Agar, given the pitch conditions. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60 off 49) and Ibrahim Zadran (51 off 48) added their third 100-plus opening partnership in this tournament, with both hitting half-centuries. It was not an easy one for them, with the Afghan openers fighting hard for each and every run they scored. Adding to the woes of the Marsh-led side, they were sloppy on the field, to say the least.

Marcus Stoinis (1/19) broke the 118-run stand in the 16th over and gave a proper send-off to Gurbaz. Afghanistan lost wickets at regular intervals in a chaos-filled last quarter of the innings. Pat Cummins was again the pick of the bowlers for the 2021 champions and finished with a three-wicket haul, with the pacer becoming the only bowler to bag two consecutive hat-tricks in the T20Is. Adam Zampa was brilliant yet again and finished with figures of 2/28. Agar and Glenn Maxwell were wicketless but were economical as Australia restricted Afghanistan to 148/6 in 20 overs.

It was a smart decision to hand Naveen-ul-Haq the new ball instead of Fazalhaq Farooqi, as the right-arm pacer bowled a beauty to knock over the dangerous Travis Head for a bronze duck in the first over. Afghanistan, too, hunted in pairs and kept a lid on Australia. Only Glenn Maxwell was able to weather the storm, and yet again, he stood tall against the Rashid Khan-led side.

Maxwell kept fighting for the Aussies and scored his first 50 in 18 T20 innings, hammering a 41-ball 59 with 6 fours and 3 sixes. The 41-run stand between Maxi and Stoinis for the 4th wicket was the highest partnership of the innings tells the story in itself.

Once Maxwell was taken care of by in the 15th over, Australia experienced another collapse and could only score 127 before losing all 10 wickets in 19.2 overs.

Gulbadin Naib was the star of the show with his career-best figures of 4-0-20-4 and derailed the opposition with each scalp
. When it looked like Maxwell was replicating what he had done to Afghanistan back in the 50 overs World Cup, Naib got rid of the Big Show to push the Australians on the back foot. Naveen-ul-Haq (3/20) picked up three wickets, while Rashid (1/23), Omarzai (1/10) and Nabi (1/1) finished with a wicket each.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
19.2 A Omarzai to A Zampa
W WICKETTT!!!! Afghanistan have scripted history! They have defeated the mighty Australians and Group 1 is alive! Omarzai has hit the final nail in the Aussies' coffin and celebrations all over the Afghan Atalan camp! They fell short at Wankhede Stadium back in 2023 World Cup but not this time! Australia are all-out for 127 in 19.2 overs and bow down to the lion-hearted Afghans by 21 runs! Back of a length around the off-stump. Zampa stays leg side of the ball and goes aerial with a heave. Fails to time it and hits it straight down the throat of long-on. President Mohammad Nabi is not dropping it by any means! Catches it and has his arms aloft, enjoying a thumping victory against the 2021 champions!
