That's it from our coverage of the 2nd match in Group 1 of the Super 8s in the Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Thanks for joining us. Akshay Bhide, Ninaad Dixit and scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal signing off. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Mitchell Marsh (Australia Captain): "It was a really exciting bowling performance, everyone chipped in and boys played well tonight.

I think its a very good playing XI. We have picked 15 guys who can help win us the World Cup and we have picked teams based on conditions. We are playing well but still a long way to go.

I am loving the role. Its a great team to lead. We have a lot of leaders in the group, a wealth of experience. An amazing group that keeps things calm. It will be amazing if we play our next game tonight."
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh Captain): "I think the wicket looks really good. I think we had to score at least 170 to challenge Australia.

Playing against this type of team, we had to take some risks. Rishad came in at four because Zampa was bowling. He is good against the spinners but it didn't quite work out today.

So far, I'm enjoying the role a lot. I love taking the responsibility. Going alright so far but looking forward to contributing with the bat.

It was important for us to get some runs at the top of the order. That's what we were lacking in the last few games. The bowlers have been doing well in the last few months and we are looking forward to playing against India in the next match."
Most consecutive wins in T20 World Cups:

8* - Australia (2022-2024)

7 - England (2010-2012)

7 - India (2012-2014)

6 - Australia (2010)

6 - Sri Lanka (2009)

6 - India (2007-2009)
Pat Cummins (Player of the Match): "I had no idea about the hat-trick. It came on the screen and Stoini came running towards me. That's when I realized.

Set batter in. Laid the innings. But we managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals and restricted them.

Ashton Agar and Nathan Ellis on the bench today have both got hat-tricks. It's pretty awesome. Good club to be a part of.

I think fairly polished. Our goal is to get the win and we did it really well. The run rate is also a factor but we are happy that we have started the Super 8s with a win."
Pat Cummins is the player of the match!
Most consecutive innings in T20 World Cups with at least one wicket:

15 - Graeme Swann (2009-2012)

15 - Anrich Nortje (2021-2024*)

15 - Adam Zampa (2021-2024*)

11 - Ish Sodhi (2016-2021)
A powerful start for Australia in the Super 8s as they defeat Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS method) in their first encounter in the 2nd stage of the Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Mitchell Marsh spun the coin in his favor, elected to bowl first. Pat Cummins' hattrick and Adam Zampa's wonderful spell helped restrict Bangladesh to 140/8 in their 20 overs with Najmul Hossain Shanto (41) and Towhid Hridoy (40) playing good knocks.

Australia started off the chase in style with openers Travis Head (31 off 21) and David Warner (53* off 35) added 65 runs for the first wicket. Rain halted proceedings for a while and when the players returned, the Aussies lost a couple of wickets in quick interval with Head and Mitchell Marsh trapped by Rishad Hossain.

Glenn Maxwell at number 4 looked in good nick scoring 14 in 6 ball when rain intervened again but this time it poured a little longer to put the brakes on the game. Besides Rishad (2/23) only Mahedi Hasan impressed with the ball conceding 22 runs in his 4 overs.

Australia will face Afghanistan on Sunday with Bangladesh facing India on Saturday.

9:28 AM IST, 11:58 PM Local Time: Ohh Dear!!! The rain has returned and the players rush off the field. The groundsmen quickly bring in the covers. Australia are 28 runs ahead of the DLS par score (72) after 11.2 overs. The rain has gotten heavier now and the entire square is under covers.
