Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "The last 2 years we've come here and played T20s. We understand the conditions a little bit and based our game plan accordingly. We adapted well. Getting to 181 was a great effort from the batters and we knew the class of the bowlers to come back and defend that.

Everyone coming in and doing their job is critical for us. We keep talking about how each one can play their role to build a good base for the team. We needed somebody to bat in the deep and Surya did that with Hardik, it was a great partnership.

We know Bumrah's class, what he can do for us. We need to use him smartly however the conditions are there. He is the one who is ready to take the responsibility as well. He is being doing that for years and he understands what the team expects from him.

Nothing as such. I got to assess the conditions and see what is wrong and right. Looking at the opposition we have to make the changes if required. At the moment we felt 3 spinners is a good option and we went with that. If the next venue offers something for the seamers we will be up for that as well."
Rashid Khan (Afghanistan Captain): "Well I think that was a surface where we could have chased 170 or 180. That's the mindset we had before the game. You have to take the responsibility at the top of the order. You have to be smart while chasing 170-180.

I think I struggled a bit during the IPL but I'm back hitting the areas consistently. But you have to bowl well here.

We have enjoyed everywhere we have played so far. It's more about the mindset. You are talking about your own skills and if the conditions are there for us, we are definitely going to use it. But it's more about adapting if the conditions are batting-friendly."

Suryakumar Yadav (Player of the Match): "There is a lot of hard work and practice going behind this. I will say this again. There is a lot of routines that goes behind this.

I don't mind giving this award to the bowler. But first batter to win this award and hopefully, the first of many.

I have said this early and I will say this one again on air. It is very difficult to pick him (Rashid Khan). The best bowler in the world and I try to stay inside the line.

You have to adapt to the conditions here. When you go inside, you try to assess the situation and try to contribute to the team's success.

I remember, when Hardik came in to bat, I told him that we will keep batting with the same intent. The wicket may get slower and the ball may reverse a bit. So, it's better to keep batting with the same intent."
Player of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav
11:36 PM IST, 2:06 PM Local Time: Team India start their Super 8s campaign with a convincing 47-run win against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in what seemed like batting friendly conditions. Suryakumar Yadav saved India from a top order collapse with 53 in 28 balls as Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up 3 wickets apiece, India finishing at 181/8.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 11 in 8 deliveries with a six and a four but was removed in the 2nd over by Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah chipped again in his second over removing Hazratullah Zazai after Axar Patel in his first over sent Ibrahim Zadran packing.

The 3 early wickets brought India back in the game. Azmatullah Omarzai top scored with 26 in 20 balls but it wasn't sufficient for Afghanistan as they kept losing wickets regularly. His 44-run partnership for the 4th wicket with Gulbadin Naib (17 off 21) was the highest the side could bring up.

Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 3/7 in his 4 overs including a maiden. Arshdeep Singh continued the good work with 3/36. Axar Patel started with a wicket maiden and bowled 3 overs for 1/15. Kuldeep Yadav featuring in his first encounter this campaign finished with 2/32 and Ravindra Jadeja got 1/20 as well in his 3 over spell.

Stay tuned as we return with the post match festivities.
