Saad Bin Zafar (Canada Captain): "I think 194 was a great total. I was confident at that time. Movva had a great cameo at the end. We picked up two wickets as well in the powerplay but we had no answers to Gous and Jones the way they batted.

The wicket had a good bounce. The ball was coming onto the bat nicely. That's why we got 190+. But the wicket got better under lights and it helped them.

I think we missed a bit of line and length. The spinners, especially, we bowled four no balls. It's a big no no in the T20 game. We shouldn't have given them those extras. Also, the catch. If it wasn't a no ball, it would have been OUT.

I think we played exceptionally well overall. Nothing to be sad about. It's just the first game. We will put this behind and look to bounce back in the next game."

Aaron Jones (Player of the Match): "I don't think it's easy to put into words. We know Canada come hard at us and it's a great rivalry.

I think anything under 200 is chasable. The pitch is good and the outfield is fast. We just have to play good cricket and glad that it came off.

To be honest, I think I drove the process. I just backed myself and what I have practised and it worked out. I like to come in when my team is under a bit of pressure. It brings the best out of me. I'm happy that I could take the side home."

9:29 AM IST, 10:59 PM Local Time: The United States of America defeat Canada in their first ever T20 World Cup encounter by 7 wickets, a convincing win with Aaron Jones at the helm with a tremendous unbeaten 94 in just 40 balls.

USA skipper Monank Patel flipped the coin in his favor deciding to bowl first. Canada did well to get 194/5 in their 20 overs on the back of half centuries from Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton.

The hosts lost opener Steven Taylor on the second ball of the chase and skipper Patel soon after the powerplay but it was the third wicket record partnership between Jones and Andries Gous (65 in 46) that put the Canadian hopes away.

The duo added 131 runs, a USA record for any wicket in T20Is. Gous overhauled his previous T20I best of 57 hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes. Jones was brilliant, hitting 10 maximums and 4 fours in his unbeaten 94 off 40 deliveries.

Medium pacer Jeremy Gordon was taken to the cleaners in the 14th over where he bowled 11 deliveries, got Gous out off a no ball and conceded 33 runs shifting the momentum completely towards the hosts.

Dillon Heyliger (1/19) was the pick of the bowlers with Kaleem Sana (1/34) and Nikhil Dutta (1/41) taking a wicket apiece. Gordon (0/44), Dutta (1/41) and Pargat Singh (0/15) were quite expensive.

Stay tuned as we return with the post match presentation and comments from the players.
