Local time 9:07pm, IST 12:37 am | Sourya: Durban’s Super Giants have cantered to a well-deserved 36-run victory here at Cape Town in their SA20 match against the home team. MI Cape Town. Having been put into bat, the Super Giants reached a competitive 157/6 and then came out to defend their total with dexterity.
The home team never really got going in the chase, stifled as they were by the craft of skipper Keshav Maharaj (1/14 off 3), the guile of Noor Ahmad (3/22) and the expertise of Marcus Stoinis. On a pitch that offered considerable turn and variable bounce, the DSG bowlers bowled as a unit, with Naveen ul Haq (2/23), making the early inroad, before the spinners used the conditions superbly, while Stoinis, who missed out with the bat, brought his variations into play.
MICT were always behind the required rate and only Sam Curran (38 off 27) gave them some hope, but it was only fleeting at best, as the other big batters all faltered when it mattered as they finished on 121/9
Earlier,
Kieron Pollard chose to bowl on a pitch that offered the spinners help. His team
had DSG under the cosh for a while, with George Linde (2/15) and Thomas Kaber
(2/20), turning things in their favor. But a brilliant rearguard attack from
opener Matthew Breetzke (48 off 46) and Wiiaan Mulder (38 off 20), helped them reach
a great total in the conditions. Pollard missed a trick by bowling his pacers
in the late overs with spin options still in his hand, and with the last five
overs going for more than 50.
This bonus-point win for DSG gives them a great platform to make it to the playoffs. MICT will need to pull up their socks in the business end of the tournament if they wish to do the same.
