And that concludes the coverage of the second match in the U19 World Cup 2024. Keep connected to our network for comprehensive cricket updates worldwide, spanning various formats. Signing off now on behalf of my co-commentators AkshayaKrishna Polya, Soumarya Datta, Hiren Kumar, and alongside scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar, this is Saipavan Janaki. Wishing everyone a Happy Weekend!
Juan James (South Africa Captain) - "I am okay (about his injury). It was just some cramps. Maphaka is amazing. He always strikes with the ball. The boys played brilliantly and credit to them.

We were a couple of bowlers short today due to injuries but we did well and that is a big positive to take and big plus."
Stephan Pascal (West Indies Captain) - "Not happy with the loss but of course lot of positives to take in this game. They showed some brilliant character. I think we did well and pulled back things nicely.

They posted a big total and had the momentum with the ball. Jewel Andrew was brilliant. He is just 17 but plays like a 25-year old. Hope he stays grounded and has a lot of talent in him. Lots of positives to take from this game. Thank you."
Kwena Maphaka (Player of the match) -"Thank you so much. Good to start the World Cup with a win. The ball was surely shaping in the beginning and i  was focusing on that. They are a good team and we wanted to keep them under check and not give boundaries. Yeah, surely happy with the fifer and that is a box ticked. It is the process which i focus on"
09.10 PM IST: That's it....South Africa clinched an impressive victory on the opening day of the U19 World Cup 2024 with a comprehensive all-round performance. Defeating the West Indies by 31 runs, South Africa showcased their prowess in both batting and bowling to secure a triumphant start to the tournament.

Earlier, South Africa's innings commenced energetically with openers Steve Stolk and Lhuan-Dre-Pretorius making a brisk start. Stolk's departure after an ambitious shot, however, triggered middle-order troubles. Despite Pretorius's boundary onslaught and a significant six against Sealy, his dismissal intensified the Proteas' woes. The middle phase saw South African batsmen grappling, with David Teeger and Pillay falling quickly, leaving the team reeling at six wickets down.

In a sensational recovery, skipper Juan James and Dewan Marais orchestrated a swift turnaround, laying a foundation for acceleration in the final 10 overs. Marais, smashing four sixes in his explosive 65, played a pivotal role, while James contributed with a composed 47. West Indies' bowler Nathan Sealy stood out with three crucial wickets, supported by Edwards and James with two each. South Africa concluded their innings impressively at 285/9 in 50 overs.

In pursuit of a challenging target of 286 runs, West Indies faced an early setback with Stephan Pascal and Adrian Weir, losing their first wicket in the opening over. Struggling at 73 runs with the loss of five key wickets in the initial 10 overs, Jordan Johnson added 21 runs. Steve Wedderburn departed after scoring 12.

However, the resilient duo of Jewel Andrew and Nathan Sealy orchestrated a remarkable recovery, stitching an unbeaten 117-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Andrew played a stellar innings, scoring 130 runs off 96 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes, while Sealy contributed 33 runs. Despite Andrew's valiant efforts, West Indies fell short, bundling out for 254 runs in 40.1 overs.

South Africa's bowlers shone in the victory, with Kwena Maphaka leading the way with 5 wickets for 38 runs in 9.1 overs. Riley Norton claimed 3 wickets, and David Teeger chipped in with a wicket, collectively stifling the West Indies' chase.

Stick around for the post-match presentation…

ALL OUT!! That's it the end of the West Indies innings at 254. Fifer for Maphaka!
40.1 K Maphaka to I Thorne
W OUT!! LBW! All over. South Africa win by 31 runs. They are all over the moon and look at the celebrations. Coming to the ball, A perfect yorker into the stumps from Maphaka who has been brilliant today. Thorne is beaten by pace and is late in bringing the bat down in time and is struct on the boots right in front of the stumps and Umpire raises the finger in a flash. South Africa start their World Cup Campaign with a win.
