Abhishek played very well and then Chigumbura finished it brilliantly. The wicket was a bit tennis ball bounce. Monty bowled very well in his first game. We have a strong bowling lineup."
Ross Taylor (Southern Stars Captain) - "I think 180 was a good total. 160 was still good. We did not hang on to many chances. I wish all the 4 teams all the best. Pawan Negi played well in the win we had. Tough season but we will be happy."

Opting to field first, Gujarat Giants got off to a good start as Ishwar Chaudhary removed the dangerous Jesse Ryder (9) in the second over of the innings. Upul Tharanga and No. 3 batter Shreevats Goswami then stitched a 55-run partnership before Monty Panesar got the better of the latter, who made 24 off 21 balls. Soon, Tharanga (34) and Ross Taylor (9) were back in the pavilion. Chaturanga de Silva (17) and Rajesh Bishnoi (17) tried to bring Southern Super Stars’ innings back on track, but when their stand reached 23 runs, the former became Panesar’s second victim. Super Stars failed to accelerate in the death overs and finished on 159/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Trent Johnston took the most scalps (3) for Giants.
In response, Giants were off to a poor start as they lost opener Dhruv Raval (0) in the opening over of their innings. Abdur Razzak, the impact player for Stars, got the wicket of Raval. Kevin O’Brien and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala then put together a 51-run partnership before Suranga Lakmal got the better of the Giants’ skipper just before the Powerplay. O’Brien hit 29 off 20 balls. Richard Levi, the impact player for Giants, fell cheaply, leaving his team in trouble at 54/3. Jhunjhunwala and Chirag Khurana then stabilized the innings, punished the loose balls and Elton Chigumbura’s cameo helped Giants seal the deal with five wickets and eight balls remaining.
