That also brings an end to our coverage of the first game of Super Smash 2023 between the Auckland Aces and Canterbury Kings. For now, this is me Hiren Kumar, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash along with scorers/analysts Ashok Dayma and Dushyant Madhukar Kumar

Cole McConchie (Canterbury Captain): "The way Mitchell Hay and Bevon Jacobs played in the middle there, you know, they really gave some good momentum and, you know, hates that. The run rate was never an issue there, but, you know, we just kept on losing wickets right throughout and, yeah, that was definitely a downfall today.

Well, he's (Jacobs) got a hell of a bench press on him and he's a big strong boy. But, yeah, you know, we've been seeing it at training this year.

Yeah, I think that's well summed up. I think a ten-game campaign and you just have to treat each individual game as it comes. So we'll take some positives today. I thought we did some good stuff with the ball. Could be a little bit sharper in the field. And then, same with the bat, a couple of guys got underway and we weren't too far away. So short memory and roll on to Boxing Day at Hagley."
Robert O'Donnell (Auckland Captain)- "Great to kickstart the tournament with a win and also at home. look, there were some great cricket shots played (On Bevon Jacobs) and we talked about what we can control and back our skills.

The change of pace worked and we ended up picking the tail quickly. The debutants did well and Perera did pretty well and it is not easy to bowl spin here. We will just keep rolling from game to game and try playing smart."
Danru Ferns (Player of the Match): "Oh, I think it's just staying composed in those kinds of big situations, not getting too excited and under the pressure, and just kind of trusting your skills.

I think we've got a great bunch of guys, good cricketers as well, and we've come off a good Ford Trophy campaign, getting a bit of momentum, and with T20 cricket, you never know."

8:12 IST and 15:42 Local Time - The Auckland Aces win the opening game of the Super Smash 2023. They were clinical with both bat and ball and will be delighted about the way they performed. Put to bat first, they posted a par total of 185/5 in their 20 overs.

Martin Guptill, looked solid at the top and looked sublime today. He scored 47 off 29 balls and unfortunate to miss out on his fifty. In the middle, Skipper Robert O'Donnell took command and played a brilliant knock of 54 off 38 balls. In the end, Cam Fletcher was also solid and played a wonderful Cameo of 24 off just 15 balls.

With the ball, their bowlers were clinical from the first over and never let the Kings to settle on. Danru Ferns and Ben Lister were excellent with the new ball and picked up 3 and 2 wickets each. Jimmy Neesham was expensive in his first couple of over but was brilliant in his last over and got rid of the tail pretty quickly.

For the Kings, not much went right for them with the ball. Michael Rippon was the only one who looked promising in the middle overs and he ended with the figures of 2/27 in his 4 overs.

With the bat, 186 was always going to be difficult to chase. Their top order did not fire today and were all back in the hut inside the powerplay itself. Mitch Hay looked solid in the middle order and scored 43 off 25 balls. In the end, Bevon Jacobs played a blinder by scoring 42 off 20 balls which bought the Kings back in the game but after his dismissal, it was game set match for the Aces. Stay tuned for the presentations.
17.5 J Neesham to M Rae
W Neesham says let me finish things off quickly! Three wickets in the last four balls and the Kings have been bundled out for 158 runs, falling 27 runs short of the target. Full-length slower delivery drifting into the stumps. Rae is too early with the shot as he hoicks across the line and fails to generate enough power on it. The ball flies towards deep mid-wicket where Allen makes no mistake. Auckland win by 27 runs to start their campaign on a high note.

17.4 J Neesham to F Sheat
W BOWLED'EM! Another one bites the dust! The Kings are falling like nine pins! Full-length delivery straight on the middle stump line. Sheat swings hard at it, looks like a blind swing and Sheat misses it completely as the ball goes on to rattle the stumps.
17.3 J Neesham to F Sheat
0 Length delivery outside off. Sheat swings and misses.
Fraser Sheat is the new man at the crease.
Bevon Jacobs has to depart and that should be the game for Auckland.
17.2 J Neesham to B Jacobs
W BOWLED'EM! Neesham gets his man 🤫! The Aces are back in the hunt! Over the wicket. Full-length delivery seaming into the leg stump line. Jacobs looks to whack it through the line of the ball but is cramped for room. The ball beats the inside edge of the bat and crashes into the base of leg stump.
