A low-scoring thriller is what we got to witness in the third quarter-final of men's cricket in the Asian Games at Hangzhou. Against all the odds, Afghanistan under the astute leader, Gulbadin Naib topples the Sri Lankan Lions to book a ticket to face Pakistan in the Semi-Final.

So, that is it from this space. There's plenty more action on the cards with the fourth quarter final starting shortly. Also, do check around the network for many more cricketing actions. This is Arijit Kundu signing off along side co-commentator, Ayan Chatterjee and scorer, Dushyant Madhukar Kumar.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and asked Afghan Atalans to bat first. They suffered an early setback as Sediqullah Atal was cleaned up by Nuwan Thushara. They went very slow with the run-scoring rate inside the powerplay as the pitch was doing way too much for both pacers and the spinners.

Only 22 runs were scored inside the field restrictions. Mohammad Shahzad's scratchy knock of 20 off 24 balls was followed up by a handy cameo from Shahidullah Kamal who added 24 runs off 14 balls in the board.

Noor Ali Zadran was the grafter of the innings with 51 off 52 balls. He struck the periodic boundaries and helped Afghanistan boost the total to 116/10 in 18.3 overs
9:53 PM IST, 12:23 PM Local Time: A stupendous effort from Afghanistan finds them in the Semi-Final stages. Gulbadin Naib was brilliant in leading the side in this defense and they're going to face Pakistan in the Semi Final of 2023 Asian Games men's cricket.

Agony for  Sri Lanka as the country faces defeats on back-to-back days against the same opposition. Yesterday, it was the Men’s senior team in the World Cup warm-up matches and today it’s in a do-or-die encounter in the Quarter Final.

In pursuit of a tricky chase, Sri Lanka made heavy weather of chasing a paltry total. Although the wicket was additive to the spinners and the medium pacer, careful batting could make things happen in an easy fashion. They lost three wickets inside the powerplay despite some elegant stroke-naming from the top order. As soon as the spinners were introduced, Sri Lanka was pushed on the back foot. Wickets kept tumbling and they lost half of their batting midway through the innings.

Captain, Sahan Arachchige was hanging around at one end and kept ticking the scoreboard. However, he fell prey to a messy run-out in the 15th over, adding worry to the Lankan line-up.

Skip to 22 runs required from the last three overs with just two wickets in hand. The skipper, Naib pegged back with a wicket and followed it up with the bicep flexing celebration. A four in 17.6 and 18.1 amidst all the dots and strike rotations curtailed the equation to nine needed off the final over. Karim Janat did the job in the first ball of the ultimate over, foxing Thushara as he looked to hoick for the big shot.
19.1 K Janat to N Thushara
W WICKET! That's it. Afghanistan have done it and Sri Lanka go down here. Length ball and in the slot, Thushara swings it hard up in the air and gets the height and not the distance. The catch is taken at deep square leg and Thushara has been holed out here. Janat has done it as Afghanistan advances through to the semis while Sri Lanka bows out. Afghanistan wins by 8 runs in the end.
Karim Janat for the final over!!! Nine runs to win!!! Afghanistan needs one wicket.

18.6 Malik to N Thushara
1 Full toss angling in, Thushara drills it down to mid-on for a single to end the over.
Goodness me!! That looked like a dismissal. It seemed plumb in front. Or was the impact outside the off. The angle was into the right-hander. Unfortunately, there's not much technology in this tournament.
18.5 Malik to V Viyaskanth
1lb Fuller length angling in, Viyaskanth looks to work it away leg side and wears it on the pads. Appeal is not given as they scamper through for a leg bye.
Paras: This is turning out to be a heck of a match, I see!!
Arijit: Make that three!!!
18.4 Malik to V Viyaskanth
0 Fuller length around off, Viyaskanth drives it to the cover fielder.
Arijit: There's a pressure of two dot balls in the mind of Viyaskanth now.
18.3 Malik to V Viyaskanth
0 Good length around off, Viyaskanth defends it back to the bowler.
18.2 Malik to V Viyaskanth
0 Fuller length on the stumps, Viyaskanth does well to dig it out.
