16:45 IST: The Dragons get a crucial win today. It got a bit scary for them at the backend but they managed to hold onto their nerves and get the two points from this contest.
After being put into bat, the Dragons had a slow start but a great knock from Reddy (82) on debut along with a decent cameo 34 runs down the order from Joshi ensured that the Dragons posted 191 runs on the board. The Lion bowlers were able to get wickets but were hammered around by Reddy and Joshi today. Somanna was the leading wicket-taker for them as he registered 3/38 bowling his four overs, while Gopal got a couple of wickets.
Coming into chase down a target of 192 runs, the Lions had a slow start. They lost their top order early and were well behind the required run rate at the end of the powerplay overs. The wickets kept tumbling and they couldn't fire away in the middle overs too. A few batters did get starts for them but they could not carry on. A couple of cameos from Kumar (21), and Bhatia (39) down the order did get the Lions close to their target but not close enough.
Defending their total, the Dragons got the ball to swing around in the powerplay overs. Later, their spinners kept the squeeze bowling through the middle overs. Anand, Arya, and Shettennavar got a couple of wickets each, while Goyal, Naveen, and Gowtham got one wicket apiece. They did get hammered around in the death overs but they got wickets and just managed to hold onto a win.
With this win, the Dragons move up to fourth on the points table. The Lions slip down to fifth on the table. Both are on eight points but the Dragons have a better net run rated comparted to the Lions.
