So, that's it from the coverage of the first ODI between India and South Africa at Johannesburg. Both teams will be back on Tuesday for the second ODI. Do join us for that and stay tuned for more cricketing actions across the globe in our network across formats.

Signing off here is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Raju Khariya and Paras Yadav. Special mentions also to Deepak Prakash and Arijit Kundu for their contribution in this game. Until next time, goodbye and CHEERS from us.
KL Rahul (India Captain): "I am very happy about winning the game today. It is my first ODI win as a captain here in South Africa. The last time I was here as captain, we failed to win a game. Really happy with the result.

We didn't expect this to be that quick. It's an unexpected one, but we will take it. We have seen in the T20s that it did help the spinners. So we were expecting Kuldeep and Axar to get to the game early, but it was completely different from what we expected coming into this game.

There was a lot of help in the wicket early, and the boys bowled really well. The boys did well to stay disciplined. The ball kept moving around.

It's just how cricket has been played in the last couple of years. You have to rest some players, you prioritise one format every now and then. Now it is T20s and Tests. But we want to take guys who are doing their best. Everyone's doing well in first class and IPL, too, so good for them to get a taste too."
Arshdeep Singh (Player of the Match): "I feel little sore and loving this moment. Thank God and support staff for their support. I did not know about that. After 3-4 overs, I was gasping for breath.

Personally, feels great. Performing for my country gives me pleasure and thank Rahul Bhai. Lot of hard work behind the scenes and thank you for the family.

It's about enjoying this moment and when we go to the next game it's all about sticking to the process and continue the good work that we are doing. Happy with the win, but this is just one game."
Player of the Match: Arshdeep Singh.
Aiden Markram (South Africa Captain): "Yeah, tough one, Pom (Pommie Mbangwa). Naturally, winning the toss and batting first, we wanted to put a really, really good score on the board. Credit should go to the Indian bowlers for the way they bowled.

We failed to build partnerships and lost wickets regularly. We were behind the game from the get-go and failed to find a way to crawl our way back into it.

It's a day game. The first five, six overs did something, and we expected it to do a bit, to be honest. Today, it lasted a little longer, and they bowled well. As I said, the credit should go to them for the way they bowled.

It comes down to individuals batting out there. It is up to them to asses and then plan it forward. We need to take smart options in a given situation. We encourage guys to be positive but also choose smart options. We'll have to assess.

Probably not Pom
(Pommie Mbangwa) (on batting first again on this pitch and chuckles)."

This is South Africa's only second loss wearing a Pink jersey.
5:45 PM IST, 2:15 PM Local Time: So, a comprehensive win for India as they have outplayed South Africa in all facets of the game to win this game by 8 wickets and get the win in what was the Pink ODI for South Africa. The Proteas will be disappointed with this effort, but the Men in Blue will be delighted with this performance as KL Rahul and his men takes a 1-0 lead in the series.

Chasing a paltry 117 for the win, India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early for 5. Debutant Sai Sudharsan survived a LBW as DRS was not taken against him as Burger was the unlucky man on this occasion. But Sai was fluent and so was Shreyas Iyer who scored 52 off 45 balls. Sai was unbeaten on 55* off 43 balls. The duo of Sai and Iyer put on 88 for the second wicket and won the game for India. Tilak Varma came and hit the winning runs. 4 extras given by the fielding side as the victory was achieved in 16.4 overs.

Nothing much to defend for the South African bowlers and they got 2 wickets in their kitty. Wiaan Mulder got one and Andile Phehlukwayo got a wicket towards the end. Nandre Burger was unlucky not to get a wicket on debut today.

Earlier in the game, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first, but nothing went their way as they got lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Tony de Zorzi looked fluent out there up at the top with 28 off 22 balls. Later on, Andile Phehlukwayo showed resistance in his 33 off 49 balls but other than that nothing to speak home about. Markram and Shamsi got into double figures but the Proteas were bundled out for 116 in 27.3 overs. 13 extras given by India.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India finishing with figures of 5/37 in 10 overs. Avesh Khan supported him well with figures of 4/27 in 8 overs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up the final wicket of the innings. Mukesh Kumar was expensive on a rare off day as only 4 bowlers were required to be used by India today.

So, India wins by 8 wickets with plenty to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Stay tuned for the presentations.
16.4 N Burger to T Varma
1 Tilak Varma gets off the mark and that's the winning runs for India as well. Short ball angling into the leg stump. Varma, on the back foot, turns it down to deep fine leg for a single. India win by 8 wickets, with more than 33 overs to spare. Utter domination from the Men in Blue as they hand South Africa their only second defeat in the Pink ODI.
