Do join us tomorrow for the Melbourne Derby at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Wali Siddiqul and scorer Paras Yadav. Tata. Bye Bye.
3:26 PM IST, 7:56 PM Local Time: That's it. The match has been abandoned. The rain has the final say in this 22nd match of Big Bash League 2023-24. Both sides have to settle for a point each. That's a tame end to this exciting clash.
3 PM IST, 7:30 PM Local Time: As per the umpires, the action needs to start at 8:25 PM Local Time (3:55 PM IST) to get a five-over game. The chances of any action tonight are looking very bleak.
2:35 PM IST, 7:05 PM Local Time: Nothing new to update. The covers are firmly in place and it continues to rain here at The Gabba.
2:02 PM IST, 6:42 PM Local Time: The final call for a shortened game will not be taken until 8:15 PM Local Time (3:45 PM IST). So, there is plenty of time left. Let's hope the weather clears soon and we get some action🤞🤞
1:35 PM IST, 6:05 PM Local Time: It doesn't look good out there as we get to witness more heavy showers leading to further delay!
UPDATE: The toss / bat flip has been delayed due to rain here at Brisbane.

Head-to-Head: From the last four contested matches between both sides, both teams have have won two apiece keeping it evenly balanced.

Weather Report: There are predictions of light showers ahead and we can see some stop-starts here out in the middle.

Pitch Report: The wicket at the Gabba is likely to be a balanced one for both batters and bowlers. The average first innings score at this venue is 160 and the team winning the bat flip could opt to bowl first.
12:45 PM IST, 5:15 PM Local Time: We’re all set for match number 22 of the BBL as Brisbane Heat take on Sydney Sixers in a blockbuster event on new year’s day. Both sides have been going through a rich vein of form as Heat stays on top of the points table with nine points. Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers are in at third with seven points and are on level terms with the Perth Scorchers with only the NRR being the difference.

A win for either side can prove to be pivotal in the grand scheme of things and given the quality in personnel both teams have, we can anticipate the fixture ahead to be an mouth-watering affair.

To guide you through the course of the game, it will be the commentary team of Wali SiddiquI and Akshay Bhide who will be your hosts. Meanwhile, Paras Yadav is going to be in charge of the scoreboard.

Preview

Brisbane Heat will take on Sydney Sixers in the 22nd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 on Monday (January 1, 2024) at The Gabba, Brisbane.

Heat are at the top of the table with four wins in five matches. The remaining fixture against Adelaide Strikers, at Adelaide Oval, was abandoned due to rain. Heat beat Sydney Thunder by 15 runs in their previous game. Opting to bat first at The Gabba, Heat posted 172 thanks to Nathan McSweeney’s 52-ball 73. For Thunder, Daniel Sams grabbed a five-wicket haul. In reply, Thunder got off to a fine start and were 97/2 after 13 overs. However, Heat bowlers struck regularly in the next seven overs and restricted Thunder to 157/9. For Heat, Xavier Bartlett took three wickets while Spencer Johnson and Matthew Kuhnemann picked up two wickets apiece.

Sixers, on the other hand, have won three matches, lost one, and their previous game against Thunder at Sydney Showground Stadium was ruined due to rain.

Both Sixers and Heat would look to continue their good form and maintain their spots in the top half of the table.
