Afghanistan are an inspiration for all of those who have a mountain to climb in front of them. They didn't get to a great start but have come back really well, in fact miraculously to beat the likes of England, Pakistan and now Sri Lanka, moving to the 5th spot in the points table. Shahidi and co. have Netherlands, Australia and South Africa in their last three hurdles in order to make it to the semis. Two more wins could well be enough, who knows? On the other hand, Sri Lanka have been poor yet again. Starting with a hat-trick of defeats and then got a couple of good wins, but now again, it's a disappointing show.

We have Pakistan vs Bangladesh tomorrow at Eden Gardens! For now, this is me AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Sidharth Gulati, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought you all the live-action of this exciting game of cricket. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!

Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain): "Quite happy. Proud of the team for the way they have performed in all three departments. The way we chased against Pakistan gave us a belief in chasing any target we get. It gave us a lot of confidence.

Today, especially, we started well from the beginning. The way we bowled, fielded and then batted. Very clinical the way we approached the chase. It was a very professional performance from the bowlers today.

Coaches are always positive, we worked very hard before the World Cup. All of the management and support staff are working really hard and keep us motivated all the way. Especially Jonathan (Head Coach Jonathan Trott), you know, he has changed our approach. The one word he said to me before the game against Pakistan changed my approach and gave confidence to me. He has changed my mindset as well. As a captain, I should lead the team from the front, which I think I am doing now. I will try to maintain that for the rest of the tournament.

Rashid Khan is a special player and the best player in the world. One word for Rashid Khan I want to say that he has been energetic. Very full of energy and positivity and fills plenty of energy in the boys on the field.

Thank you very much. In the end, I want to thank all the people of my nation as well the Indian crowd for supporting us."

Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain): "Yeah. I think little bit short. 240 wasn't a good total on this pitch. Maybe 300 or 280 would have been a good total here.

I told the boys that we will try to defend it. Bowl in the right areas but we didn't quite pick wickets. The dew came in the later half and it made life hard for the spinners. Too much dew came in today and while bowling it was difficult. The pitch also became good for batting in the second innings.

Dilshan has been very good with the ball for us. He is bowling nicely and performing consistently for us. Really happy for him."

This is the first time in the history of the World Cups that Afghanistan have won back-to-back games! This is their best-ever performance in an ICC event.
Fazalhaq Farooqi (Player of the Match): "First of all, thanks to my dear Allah for the performance and really happy to win three games in a row in the competition.

I tried to swing the new ball for the first couple of balls but I didn't get swing. So I decided to attack the stumps and bowl tighter and cut out the boundaries.

We have been working hard in the nets. We gave too many runs in the last overs but we did work on that. We had a good rest as well. I tried to stick to my strengths and I'm happy that it worked out well for me and the team."

The Afghans mean business in this World Cup.
9:53 PM IST and Local Time: Enough of upsets! Now it's time to call the win of Afghanistan a well-deserved one. They win three games and move to the fifth place in the points table. They have thrashed England, Pakistan and now Sri Lanka, all of them have been World Champions once in their cricketing history! It's great to be in the Afghan camp right now, and Head Coach Jonathan Trott has done some amazing piece of work in building this team!

Earlier in the game, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Fazalhaq Farooqi came back into the XI and trapped the Sri Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne in front of the stumps in the 6th over. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis added 62 runs for the 2nd wicket before Azmatullah Omarzai got rid of the former in the 19th over. Nissanka fell four short of his 5th consecutive fifty, but the Lankan batters continued to toil, with Mendis (39 off 50) and Sadeera Samawickrama (36 off 40) stitching a 50-run partnership for the third wicket. Mujeeb Ur Rahman (10-0-38-2) dismissed both of these well-set batters in his successive overs and didnโ€™t allow Sri Lanka to settle down in the next half of the innings.

There were plenty of starts for the middle and lower order, but none of them stood tall and took the responsibility of finishing the innings. Charith Asalanka (22 off 28), Dhananjaya de Silva (14 off 26), and Angelo Mathews (23 off 26). Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled his heart out and got to his career-best ODI figures (10-1-34-4) and was the wrecker-in-chief of the Sri Lankan collapse, while Rashid Khan, who played his 100th ODI game and Azmatullah Omarzai scalped a wicket each.

Maheesh Theekshana (29 off 31) hit some useful runs in the end to push the teamโ€™s score to a competitive one, with Sri Lanka getting all-out in the 50th over for 241, which was definitely a below-par total on Puneโ€™s surface.

Dilshan Madushanka bowled a superb inswinger in the fourth ball of the run-chase and uprooted the middle stump of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a 4-ball duck. That was the only time when Sri Lanka were at the top of the game. Afghanistan batters didnโ€™t give any chance for the Sri Lankan bowlers to get the control back, with the batting side getting consistent partnerships to anchor the chase.

Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah added 58 runs for the 2nd wicket. Madushanka (9-0-48-2) came back into the attack and broke this stand by bouncing out Zadran (39 off 57) in the 17th over. Rahmat continued his good work and notched up yet another half-century, setting the platform with the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi with a partnership of  58 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rahmat (62 off 74) fell in the very next delivery after getting a life in the bowling of Kasun Rajitha (10-0-58-1).

Shahidi (58* off 74) steered the ship with Azmatullah Omarzai (73* off 63), helping Afghanistan to close out the chase with more than 4 overs remaining. Both hit respective half-centuries and were involved in an unbeaten 4th wicket partnership of 111 runs, taking Afghan Atalans to a massive victory by 7 wickets! Omarzai hit the winning runs as Charith Asalanka dropped an easy catch in the deep just summed up Sri Lanka's performance!

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
