Jimmy Neesham was absolutely gutted after getting run out on the penultimate ball πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "It was an awesome performance from the Boys. I loved the start from the openers and that's the way I wanted them to play.

It was a good wicket, we bowled well in the patches but some really good partnerships in the middle made the job tough for us.

The fielding at the end made all the difference I think especially Marnus on the fence, as the outfield wasn't so great but the boys did an excellent job on the ropes.

We got 5 to 6 days off now before the next game but firstly will soak in this win before moving on to the next one"
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "Look obviously a great game of cricket. Too many ebbs and flows throughout the game and it hurts to lose it after coming so close but a great game of cricket.

They put us on the backfoot right from the start. Credit must go to them for the way they started. We needed to bowl better but were off today and we felt the pressure right away.

(About Glenn Phillips) He bowled fantastically. To come in under pressure and bowl the way he did, it was great character from him and to pick three wickets was great.

To chase down the total of 400, you have to play a perfect game. Young and Devon gave us a good start and Rachin played well to take the game close and I'm really proud of the guys.

It's really special to be here in Dharamsala. The hospitality is great and nice to play cricket here. The support has been great and really grateful for that.

(Whether he will be watching the Rugby World Cup Final) We will be up for it and watching it. Just want to say all the best to AB and bring the World Cup home."
Travis Head (Player of the Match): "Yeah. Nice to be back. Nice to be contributing. Nice to get the win. It was a hell of a game but happy to finish on the winning side. I have had a couple of hits. I had six to seven weeks off but nice to come back.

The hand is okay. It was shaking but it's nice now. A few blokes found it hard here to get going but it was important to keep going.

I and David enjoy batting together. I feel we complement each other really well. Not much was spoken in the middle. It was about reacting to the ball and being positive in the middle. To take the game deep and keep putting away the loose balls."

6:28 PM IST and Local Time: CRAZY SCENES AT DHARAMSALA! What a game we have had. This World Cup has truly come alive with consecutive nail-biters! Travis Head's comeback, Warner's form, Phillips' miraculous over and Boult's superb last over in the first innings. Rachin Ravindra's unbelievable batting, followed by Jimmy Neesham's screamer with the bat, we have seen everything today. 771 runs, and at the end of it all, Australia did well to hold its nerve and clinch a thrilling 5-run win over their Trans-Tasman Rivals.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first, giving the reason of a day game. Travis Head, coming back into the side after recovering from his fractured right hand, came out all guns blazing alongside David Warner and slapped the Kiwi bowlers left, right and centre in disdain. The two southpaws brutally hit 175 runs in 19.1 overs, with the projected score pointing out to 506 at one stage in the game.

Head (109 off 67, 10 fours and 7 sixes) didn't show any mercy on his neighbours and struck a brilliant comeback hundred, a maiden World Cup hundred on his debut game in this marquee event. Warner (81 off 65, 5 fours and 6 sixes) continued his great run of form and kept hitting one boundary after the other.

It was the golden arm of Glenn Phillips which got the Kiwis back in the game as the part-time off-spinner removed the likes of Warner, Head and Steven Smith (18 off 17) in a quick time, finishing his bowling day with figures of 10-0-37-3. Santner (2/80) was expensive in the first spell but bounced back nicely in the middle overs.

All of a sudden, the scoring rate declined, with Mitchell Marsh (36 off 51) and Marnus Labuschagne (18 off 26) struggling to get going against the Kiwi spinners. Glenn Maxwell (41 off 24), Josh Inglis (38 off 28) and skipper Pat Cummins (37 off 14) hit a few big shots, pushing the Aussie total towards the mountain.

Trent Boult (3/77) bowled an excellent 49th over and picked three wickets to reduce Australia nine down with Matt Henry (1/67), getting the final Aussie wicket in the second ball of the 50th over to bundle Australia out for 388. Everyone got hit apart from Phillips!

Chasing a massive target, New Zealand got off to a flying start, with both Devon Conway (28 off 17) and Will Young (32 off 37) scoring freely in their own style, adding 61 runs for the opening wicket. Josh Hazlewood removed both the Kiwi openers and put the pressure back on the chasing side.

Rachin Ravindra came up with an inspirational innings and kept hitting glorious strokes to keep Australia thinking about their approach. Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell added 96 runs for the 3rd wicket and gave New Zealand a very good platform to go at the target. Mitchell (54 off 51) got through to his fifty before becoming the first victim of Adam Zampa (3/74), who finished with a three-fer to get his World Cup 2023 tally to 15 wickets in his last four games.

Ravindra stood tall at one end, with Tom Latham (21 off 22) and Glenn Phillips (12 off 16) giving the Wellington-born support for a while. Rachin Ravindra (116 off 89, 9 fours and 5 sixes) broke a few records and was in ridiculous touch, hammering his second World Cup and ODI ton.

Ravindra kept New Zealand alive in the chase until he was taken care of by the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins in the 41st over. Jimmy Neesham was stranded at one end, and he came up with something special. Neesham clubbed 3 fours and 3 sixes in his breathtaking knock of 58 off 39 balls and took the game to the last over, with New Zealand needing 19 to script history.

Mitchell Starc, too felt the heat of the final over and gave away five wides, but the Aussie fielders in the deep put their bodies on the line, saving a few boundaries. With 7 needed off 2 balls, Neesham mistimed the full toss towards deep mid-wicket and ran back for the impossible second only to see him walk back to the pavilion with a dirty Kiwi jersey which had seen and felt a fantastic knock from the senior pro, who received a standing ovation from the Dharamsala crowd. Lockie Ferguson could bowl only 3 overs as he was taken off the field following the Achilles injury and came out to bat only to hit one straight to covers, with New Zealand needing 6 to win off the final ball.

Mitchell Starc went wicketless in a World Cup game for the first time but boy, it was some final over under pressure. Starc did his job, and the Aussies got to four consecutive wins to get another two important points in their kitty.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
