England lost three matches in a row in a CWC for the first time since the 1996 World Cup. How rare is it to witness the English side reeling at the bottom half of the table? Among the three teams, the defending champions are one of them with just a couple of points in their kitty. Such has been the traumatizing situation in England cricket in the past three weeks.

The chances of qualification hang by a thread for the Three Lions. They will face India in their upcoming assignment in Lucknow and hope to bounce back strong.

So, that is it from the coverage. This is Arijit Kundu taking your leave on behalf of good pals and co-commentators- AkshayaKrishna Polya and Akshay Bhide. Ashok Dayma and Raju Khariya were tag-teamed up for the scoring duties. Thanks and cheers!!
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain): "Yeah, the net run rate is going up. This is good for me and my team. We have bowled well in the first couple of overs and continued the good work. Everyone bowled and played very well.

We have four games left. We can get to the semi-finals by winning the remaining ones. I and my team hope that we will do well in the rest of the games. We will go game by game. We will try to do well in the next couple of games.

See, Lahiru Kumara has bowled really well. He has been bowling pretty well in the domestic set-up. He's the main fast bowler in Sri Lanka. Bowled 140-145 speeds. Very happy that he came back strong today. Kumara has performed really well.

Mathews has been one of the phenomenal players. He has shown it again, coming back into the squad and then XI, showing his experiences with those breakthroughs, it has been amazing. He offers so many things. He can bat, also and can play the pressure situation also. I am lucky to be playing alongside such a player.

The fielding has been brilliant. Charith, Sadeera and all have been good. Looking forward for more wins."
Jos Buttler (England Captain): “Yeah, yeah, a lot. Incredibly tough, incredibly disappointing tournament. We are short of our best a long way. We are sad, the boys are disappointed. I have been a question we have been trying to answer. We are trying and pick ourselves up. As a captain, you want to lead the side with confident but that hasn't been so far.

Not massively to be honest [whether low on confidence]. There are a lot of massive players who are in with us. You do not become a bad player overnight. There must be something but can’t put our finger at the moment.

Selection is something you want to be consistent with. Selection is not a problem. Whoever has been in the field has been just short of doing the wonders.

I think, it’s an obvious one to say. Another run out, Joe Root’s run out, you don’t see that too often, and don’t see that happen. We have failed to build partnerships. I think, the biggest thing is there is no pride in the way we have played as a team. Whatever happened in the tournament, happened. We want to play to our best in the remaining matches, whatever will be, will be.”
Current points table scenario 👇
England in CWC:

Away matches- Won: 27, Lost: 27
At home- Won: 23, Lost: 9
This is the first time since the 1996 World Cup that England has lost 3 games in a row.
Lahiru Kumara (Player of the Match): "I'm really happy with how I performed today. I didn't make many changes after the Australia game. It was an off day for me that day and I did the basics right today.

Having Angelo back in the team is a massive boost to the team. To have him standing at mid off and mid on and giving me advice really helps.

The plan was to bowl disciplined lines and lengths in the middle overs and we got the results for sticking to the plan."

England yet to defeat Sri Lanka in World Cups in this century. The streak continues...!!!

7:17 PM IST, Local Time: A magnificent display of cricket from Sri Lanka and they eclipse the defending champions comprehensively in Bengaluru today. Sri Lanka are victorious by eight wickets. England are yet to defeat Sri Lanka in this century. Right from the 2007 WC, it continued for five World Cups and the Lankan Lions continue with their streak.

David Willey got to do some magic with the ball at the start of the second innings. There was a slight chink of ray from the dark cave where the English side resided. But soon it was blocked by Sadeera Samarawickrama and Pathum Nissanka. The Asian unit were pushed back to 23-2 after both the Kusal (Perera and Mendis) were outwitted by Willey.

However, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama had other plans. The former went on to rack up his fourth consecutive fifty and the second Sri Lankan to do so in World Cups after the great Kumar Sangakkara. Samarawickrama started off from where he left in Lucknow against Netherlands. The pair etched individual half-centuries and managed to steer the side past the finishing line with 24.2 overs in hand.

Earlier, England won the toss and decided to bat first. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan gave a brisk start of 45 runs for the opening stand before returner Angelo Mathews outfoxed the southpaw on 28. This was just the start of a collapse that England did not wish for.

Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow followed Dawid Malan in quick time. The former was run out while the latter failed to convert his start and fell to Kasun Rajitha. Lahiru Kumara bowled brilliantly with the softer ball in the second powerplay and pushed the English side to 85-5.

Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali looked to steady the ship but could do only for a brisk periodm Stokes fell short of partners in the end and was removed by Kumara for 43 off 73 balls. It was just a matter of time before the Three Lions got folded for 156.

25.4 A Rashid to P Nissanka
6 SIXXXXX!!!! Nissanka comes down the ground and goes out of the ground with the final blow! Sri Lanka has maintained their record of staying unbeaten against England in the World Cups since the 1999 edition. They seal the deal with 8 wickets and more than 24 overs to spare! England have been simply outplayed both mentally and physically. Length delivery around the off-stump. Rashid gave the air and the invitation to Nissanka to come down the track, which he did gleefully. Comes at the bowler and heaves it away aerially. Not exactly off the middle of the bat, but still had plenty of wood on it to see it sail deep into the long-on crowd. 156 was never gonna be enough at Chinnaswamy, and Sri Lanka brushed aside the defending champions in some style!
25.3 A Rashid to P Nissanka
0 Good length delivery at the off and middle. Googly at 88.5 kmph. Nissanka punches off the back foot to mid-on.
