Match Details
Chasing a challenging score of 159, the new opening pair of Shayan Jahangir and Slade van Staden powered MI New York to a splendid start by thumping Daniel Sams for 9 runs off the first over. However, the Texas bowlers registered a comeback and used the extra bounce to their advantage. Both Jahangir and van Staden were unable to rotate the strike and the latter succumbed to building pressure as Juan Rusty Theron deceived him with an off-pace delivery.
Jahangir decided to break free in the 5th over and swatted Gerald Coetzee for 14 runs. The right-hander used the crease really well and stepped on the gas inside the powerplay. Jahangir accumulated a quick 36(18) before departing in the acceleration process as MI New York concluded their powerplay on 45/2. Nicholas Pooran and Dewald Brevis failed to capitalize on the laid foundation as Texas spinners stemmed the flow of the runs. Daniel Sams ceased Pooran's 23(20) stay at the crease by trapping the southpaw lbw.
Just when the game was drifting away from MI New York and the asking rate was starting to climb over 12, Tim David joined forces with Dewald Brevis and the right-handed duo went on an onslaught. They did some repair work in the 15th over by aggregating 16 runs off Mitchell Santner before David teed off in the following over and took Mohammad Mohsin to the cleaners. David 33(20) pummeled three maximums in that over before eventually holing out. Nonetheless, David’s pyrotechnics powered New York in an authoritative position in the game. Brevis finished the proceedings and remained unbeaten on 41*(33) to steer the MI New York to the inaugural MLC Final.
Devon Conway and Milind Kumar absorbed some pressure and resurrected the innings by accumulating 77 runs for the 4th wicket. Rashid Khan broke their stand by dismissing Milind 37(34) with a full-toss delivery. The southpaw Conway also holed out at 38(35) as MI New York pulled things back at the backend of the innings. David Miller and Daniel Sams failed to provide the finishing touches to the Super Kings’ innings as they fell around 15 runs short of the desired target. Trent Boult was brilliant with his change-ups and completed his spell with the figures of 4/24. Tim David also picked up a couple of wickets in the final over of the innings despite conceding 14 runs.
