That's  a wrap on the first T20I of this 5-match series between West Indies and England with the hosts coming out on top in the end. Both teams head off to Grenada now for the next two T20IS. Do join us for those games and for all other cricketing actions across the globe, stay tuned to our network.

For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and CHEERS!
Highest Successful Run Chase at Barbados in T20IS

172/6 by West Indies against England in 2023*
155/5 by West Indies against England in 2014.
151/4 by England against Pakistan in 2010
148/3 by England against Australia in 2010
115/4 by Pakistan against West Indies in 2017.
Rovman Powell (West Indies Captain): "Yeah, I think it was a tough performance. After the Powerplay, we came together and got the information about how the pitch was behaving, with Russell passing over the information. Then the batters delivered as well.

It's the captain's role which comes first, but that doesn't take over during my batting. I just trust myself and play accordingly.

We still have some room for improvement. Some teams don't have those big hitters in the middle order, but that is the luxury we have in us. Some teams struggle to get going after their top order gets out, but that is not the case with us. We can do better in bowling during the Powerplay phase. If we do that, not a lot of teams will have such power down the order, and they'll be on the back foot.

Many teams looking in around the World Cup (2024 T20 WC). We haven't yet looked that far ahead at the moment. We haven't arrived in the World Cups as of now. We are just focusing on the job on our hands, and that is to do well in this series and do well in the next game at Grenada. We're looking at the possible opportunities before that tournament, get our team set and then we have a good chance."
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "It was. It was always going to get harder. West Indies adapted better and we should have got to 200+ from where we were. We have to keep pushing the boundaries and finding ways of scoring more and more. We have to find a way in doing it. The conditions changed a bit and West Indies have big hitters and they deserve the win. I think Salt played well and we need to learn how to go about things. We need to learn how to hit more sixes than the West Indies as they hit more sixes than us. So, these are the areas we need to work on and get learnings ahead of the next two games in Grenada."
Andre Rusell (POTM): "Actually, Bish (Ian Bishop), that (life) is how it goes, quite funny. I am not sure that anyone will believe what I will say now, but that is what it is. I dreamt of and believed that I would get Player of the Match in the first game on my return as soon as I got selected for the squad. I didn't know how it would have happened, though.

It was a good surface, but we needed to take the pace of the ball and make it difficult for the batters. Since the CPL season, the wicket has been up and down, two-paced, and you'll have to bowl a lot more cutters. We bowled in the second half after being taken for runs in the first due to bowling with pace-on.

With Rovman Powell, it's always a good feeling to bat on. He supports you all the way and being a captain, he himself contributes a lot, with a few of the big hits. It was all about batting in pairs; we both have power, and we knew we could finish off the game if we batted deep."
Player of the Match: Andre Russell

7:34 AM IST, 10:04 PM Local Time: West Indies achieve their highest chase at this ground as they win this game by 4 wickets with 11 balls to spare. A good all round performance by the West Indies as they outplay England in all facets of the game and draws first blood in the 5-match T20I series. They go 1-0 up in the series.

Chasing 172 for the victory on a tricky surface in Barbados, West Indies much like England got off to a blazing start in the powerplay courtesy of their openers Brandon King and Kyle Mayers. King scored 22 off 12 balls while Mayers scored 35 off 21 balls. Shai Hope held the innings together with his 37 off 30 balls. There was a brief stoppage due to rain, but that did not deter the West Indies in getting to the target. Nicholas Pooran got to double figures. But it was skipper Rovman Powell who was applying the finishing touches scoring 31* off 15 balls alongside Andre Russell who hit the winning runs for his 29* off 14 balls. They shared an unbroken 49-run stand for the 7th wicket to win the game for their side. 4 extras given by the fielding side as the target was achieved with 11 balls to spare.

From the bowling point of view, Rehan Ahmed picked up 3 wickets for 39 runs in 4 overs. The veteran Adil Rashid picked up a couple of wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs and got to 100 T20I wickets in his 100th match. A wicket for Chris Woakes early on in the encounter.

Earlier in the game, West Indies put England into bat and the visitors came out all guns blazing in the powerplay. They scored 77 in the powerplay courtesy of their openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt in particular. Salt scored 40 off 20 balls while Buttler lost his touch post the powerplay and scored 39 off 31 balls in the end. Will Jacks scored 17 off 9 balls while Ben Duckett scored 14 off 12 balls. England lost their way in the middle overs and never really recovered. Liam Livingstone scored 27 off 19 balls while Sam Curran scored 13 off 14 balls. 16 extras given by the fielding side as they were bowled out for 171 in 19.3 overs.

From the West Indies' bowling point of view, Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/19 in 4 overs. Romario Shepherd also had a good day out there finishing with figures of 2/22 in 4 overs. Alzarri Joseph picked up 3 wickets but went for 54 runs in 3.3 overs. A wicket apiece also for Akeal Hosein and Jason Holder.

So, a win by 4 wickets with 11 balls to spare for the West Indies as they go 1-0 up in the 5-match series against England. Stay tuned for the presentations.
18.1 S Curran to A Russell
4 FOURRRRR!!! Andre Russell announces his comeback with a bang! A proper all-round show from Dre Russ as he takes West Indies home with 11 balls to spare! Curran returns from over the wicket. Short ball angling across outside off. Russell stays tall and gets on his toes as he slashes at it really hard, getting it off the outside half of the bat. It flies over backward point and goes over the fence after a bounce. History created at the Kensington Oval as West Indies got home by 4 wickets in what has been the highest-ever successful run-chase in T20Is at this very venue to go 1-0 up in the five-match series!
Adil Rashid finishes with figures of 2/25 in 4 overs. But it will not be enough for England. West Indies needs 4 runs off 12 balls. Sam Curran will bowl the penultimate over of the game.
