That's it from another enthralling Indian Premier League season as the Chennai Super Kings stamp their authority under the legendary MS Dhoni in the elongated final. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu, AkshayaKrishna Polya, scorer Paras Yadav and from all my teammates who worked to bring the coverage to your screens. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
From Ruturaj Gaikwad's 92 in the opening fixture between these two sides to Sai Sudharsan's 96 in the grand finale, there were a lot of great moments. Rinku Singh's heroics; Dhoni's tactics winning the 5th season; Prithvi Shaw's drought of runs and then the epic comeback; Venkatesh Iyer and Shivam Dube's big hits; Rashid Khan's hattrick and the snake shots; Shikhar's rollicking performances; the magnificent comebacks of Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma; the ever reliant guys for RCB- Kohli, Faf, Maxwell, and Siraj; the emergence of the young Mumbai Indians; Shubman Gill's great run of form; a lot has happened over the course of this 2 months and 74-match long tournament which comes to an end here tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Roger Binny and Jay Shah hand the big IPL trophy to the Super Kings! Celebrations all around from the 5 time IPL champions!
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): "(About his retirement plans) It is better you ask, and then I reply. So you are looking for an answer. You know, if you see circumstantially, then this is the best time to announce retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, you know, I think the easy way is to tell thank you very much, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine months and come back and play atleast one more season of IPL. But a lot depends on the body. See, I have six-seven months to decide, and I think you know it is something… It will be a gift from my side. It is not easy for me, but that will be the gift. For the love and affection they have shown for me, this is something that I have to do for them.

(On showing emotions this season) Well, you do get emotional, you know, for the simple fact that it is the last part of my career. I think it started over here during the first game here I just walked out, and the full house over here chanted my name; my eyes were actually filled with waters, I stood there in the dugout for a while, I took my time as I realised that I need to enjoy it and not take that pressure. And you know the same thing happened in Chennai. You know it was my last game there, but it is good to come back and play whatever I can.

(On asking about qualities that his fans follow him for) I think they love me for who I am, and being grounded is what they really like in me. Also, the fact that the kind of cricket I play, you know, everyone in the stadium, they feel that they also can play that kind of cricket, you know, because there is nothing orthodox about it. So I feel that they can relate to me more than anyone else, and that is the reason. But again, as I said, I don’t want to change myself. I never wanted to portray myself in a way which I am not. So I just want to keep it simple.

(On winning fifth IPL trophy) I think every trophy you win, even the bilateral series you win, is very special in its own way. You know you have different challenges. And ofcourse we play a team game. So the whole team needs to be up there. What really fascinating about the IPL is, you know, during the crunch game, that is when you really need the individuals to be ready, and I feel, you know, that is something that we have done. There have been lapses. But we haven’t talked a lot about today’s game. I don’t think that we started with a right way, and throughout the game, there were lapses that were produced. I think again we came back when the bowling department didn’t do its work. It was the batting department that took the pressure off them.

(About his team and their performances) Well, I do get frustrated. You know, being human, all of us get frustrated. But I tried to step into their shoes and look at what really happened. Everybody, ahhh… the way they handle the pressure is different. The amount of pressure that every individual can deal with is different. So it is important to realise that and groom them so that when you are there, they perform, and when you are not there, they still know how to perform. So we tried that, and ofcouse Ajinkya is somebody who is so experienced, and there are other players as well who are experienced. So you don’t worry a lot about them. But you want them to take that responsibility. If they are confused, please come and ask whatever you want to. Overall, they have taken that responsibility.

(On Rayudu’s last game) Well, one special thing about Rayudu is that if he is on the field, he always gives his 100%. The second thing is with him in the team that I will never win the fairplay award because he reacts too quickly (smiles). But what I will remember about him is that he always gives his 100%. He wants to contribute. He has been a fantastic cricketer. You know, right from we played India-A together, you know, we were part of that team playing India-A together. He is someone who played the fast bowlers and spin bowlers equally well. I had a feeling that he will do something special in this game today. And I am very happy for him. This game I think he will remember for a long time. He is also like me as he also doesn’t use the phone much. He has had a fantastic career, and what is important is he enjoyed it. I hope he enjoys the next phase of his life."
STEPHEN FLEMING ARRIVES ON THE PODIUM AND COLLECTS THE MEDALS FOR BECOMING THE CHAMPIONS. MS DHONI FOLLOWS HIM AND COLLECTS A 20 CR CHEQUE.
Hardik Pandya (Gujarat Titans Captain): "We tick a lot of boxes. We play with our heart and are a team who always stood together and back each other. The team kept fighting. We win together and lose together and maybe one of the days today.

I am not one of the guys to make excuses. CSK played better than us. We batted really well. Special mention to Sai. The knock he played at this big stage. I wish him well. He's gonna do wonders in his life.

We have always been about backing boys and making sure they get the best out of them. Their success is theirs. The way they have taken their responsibilities like Mohit, Lala and Rashid. The coaching staff has done well, they have sleepless nights so that the boys do well. I can't ask for more.

I am very very happy for MS as well. Destiny had this written for him. I don't mind losing to him as well. I can't ask anything better. I mentioned last year as well. Good things happen to good people and he is one of the best I have ever met."
The runners-up trophy is being handed over to Gujarat Titans. Ashish Nehra collects the medals on the team's behalf.
Match Referee Javagal Srinath, Umpires Nitin Menon, Rod Tucker, Karumanaseri Narayanaiyer Ananthapadmanabhan and Jayaraman Madanagopal receive the awards for their efforts.
Eden Gardens of Kolkata and Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai are the joint winners of the best pitch and ground of the tournament.
Orange cap of the season: Shubman Gill (890 runs)
Mohammad Shami: "Yes, the one who thinks might feel easy to watch but the one who is behind the hard work, for him it is not easy. It is not easy to deliver in the powerplay where only two fielders are outside the 30-yard circle. Hehe, I am a human too. Be it white ball or the red ball, if your areas are good, you will earn the success. Thank you so much."
Purple cap of the season: Mohammad Shami (28 wickets)
Fairplay Award for the season goes to Delhi Capitals. Ajinkya Rahane collects on behalf of Delhi franchise.
Active catch of the season: Rashid Khan (to dismiss Kyle Mayers)

Mohammad Shami receives the award on his behalf as he might be preparing to fly back for the bilateral Sri Lanka tour.
Longest six of the season: Faf du Plessis (115 m)

Stephen Fleming receives the award on behalf of du Plessis.
Most Fours of the season: Shubman Gill (85 fours)
Shubman Gill (Most Valuable Player): "The award means a lot. My hard work was going in the right direction for me but unfortunately couldn't win what was a hell of a game.

It started well. I was getting those starts but was getting out on 40s, 50s and 60s and by the business end of the tournament I converted those starts. I practiced a lot and changed my technique for the death overs.

All the hundreds were different from one another, one was while chasing and the one against Sunrisers was much about control. One was knowing the situation and taking the opposition and I think I picked up the right bowlers at the right time and for any batter it is important to anticipate and I think that's what I did well in that inning."
Most valuable player of the season: Shubman Gill
Game-changer award of the season: Shubman Gill
Electric Striker of the Tournament: Glenn Maxwell

Stephen Fleming receives the award on behalf of Maxwell who is currently playing T20 Blast for Birmingham Bears.
