So, it has been a great turnaround for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 so far. Losing their first two matches, thereby kicking off in the most Mumbai Indians fashion, the Rohit Sharma-led community have finally landed their first blow in the playoffs. The team would be hoping to replicate their team effort in the next assignment against Gujarat Titans and challenge their arch-rivals- Chennai Super Kings. Well, that's too far a thought for now. We hope that you enjoyed the coverage throughout.

This is Arijit Kundu, signing off alongside Hitesh Peddurwar, AkshayaKrishna Polya, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. For now, kudos to the Mumbai Indians, and commiserations to Lucknow Super Giants!!
Akash Madhwal (Player of the Match): "Sir, nowhere, just needed to practice hard and was waiting for this opportunity. I did engineering first and then went on to follow my passion. Cricket is my passion and I tried to follow it.

Whatever we practice, I try to execute it over here properly. I am proud of myself sir [sighs]. I will try my best to do better in the upcoming matches. Bumrah is in his own league and I am at my place. I try to execute my plans well. Sir, Nicholas Pooran [on the wicket he enjoyed the most today]. The atmosphere will be great. The family knows that I am working hard and I will keep trying hard. Thank You sir, thank you very much."

Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians Skipper): "I had definitely thought about it.[On asking about whether you think of getting into playoffs two weeks ago] I think that's what we have been doing for the last few years, people don't expect us to do what we have done. We come out of all the obstacles and we manage our way through. At the start of the season, we thought we had work to do.

I mean, Akash was in the team as a support bowler. This year he was drafted into the team, once Jofra went back we knew Akash can do it for us. We wanted him to bowl at the backend. Talking about the scouts, you know a lot of the players who played for Mumbai Indians went on to play for India. Credit goes to the scout team.

First and foremost, it's important to make everyone feel special. They play the domestic cricket but it is a different ball game. Our job is to make them feel comfortable. As long as you make it clear to them, that's all we want.

Yeah, I enjoyed the fielding, as a team we enjoyed it. We have been talking about getting better on the field. We knew coming to Chennai, one guy can not take you through. In Wankhede it's different, there are one or two guys taking you through. But coming to Chennai we talked about it and wanted everyone to chip in."

11:38 PM IST | Time for the post-match presentations...
Cameron Green (Mumbai Indians): "Yeah obviously pretty good. This is the most completely peaked game as well. Our batting was good tonight. Madhwal was the game-changer for us tonight. Five wickets here and the other day he had a four wickets haul as well. We fielded brilliantly today. In the last match, we were a bit ordinary on the field. All the players who are in the XI can bring energy while defending the total on the field and that is what we have done. Akash Madhwal has been excellent this season. He came and the moment he came, we realised that he is special. Gujarat Titans are a great side. It will be a tough assignment and given that we are playing at their home ground, its gonna be tough."
Krunal Pandya ( Lucknow Super Giants Skipper): "Yeah, we were in a good position. I guess everything started when I played that shot, I take full responsibility, I should have not played that shot. The wicket was good, the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, and it was the same as it was in the first innings. We just had to bat better, we need to just take that responsibility. We didn't bat well after the timeout.

It's always a tough decision to drop Quinton, he is a world-class batter, Kyle had a good record here so we thought of playing him for today. Their batters played the fast bowlers pretty well so I just thought we could do something new[on starting with the spinners]."
11:20 PM IST | Arijit: Have called it during the live coverage of MI’s last match and would love to reckon it once again. No Jasprit Bumrah, No Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith injured, and here is Akash Madhwal, the man of the hour for the Mumbai Indians. Figures of 3.3-0-5-5 are what we get to witness from the Uttarakhand-based bowler in a high-octane do-or-die clash. He has equaled Anil Kumble's record for the most economical fifer in IPL. In addition, this is also the best figure in IPL 2023.

A spectacular team effort helps Mumbai Indians go one step ahead in the queue for the silverware. Rohit Sharma and co. eclipse Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs and will meet Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.

Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai Indians elected to bat first on a traditional Chepauk strip. The Lucknow Super Giants kickstarted the innings with two spinners- Krunal Pandya and Krishnappa Gowtham from either end. They went for some runs as Rohit Sharma tonked a six and a four off the opposition skipper. Soon, Naveen-ul-Haq was introduced in the third over who trapped the Indian skipper. Ishan Kishan followed him soon and all of a sudden Mumbai Indians were under the pump within the Powerplay.

Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav arrived at the scene and took calculative risks together. The tag-team tailored 66 runs off 38 balls for the third wicket. At one point in time, it felt as if there was a six-hitting competition between both the flamboyant batters. The duo departed right after the 10th over as Naveen returned back with some bang.

Tilak Varma and Tim David succeeded them and glued 43 runs together. Although David looked scratchy, the Hyderabad-oriented batter played some fascinating shots, keeping MI on the track for a commendable total. The LSG bowlers struck with regular wickets at the later half of the innings and some lusty blows from impact sub, Nehal Wadhera helped MI to boost the total past the 180 runs mark.

For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers with a four-for while Yash Thakur returned with a three-fer. They were brilliant in amalgamating the slower ones with the pace-on deliveries. Mohsin Khan bagged a solitary wicket.

Arriving for the chase of a target of 183 runs, the Lucknow-based franchise induced Kyle Mayers at the top of the order as the impact substitute for Yash Thakur. Prerak Mankad joined him at the top and was dismissed by Akash Madhwal in the second over of the match itself.

Krunal Pandya arrived at no. 3 and ticked the scorecard for a while with Mayers. The latter was outsmarted by Chris Jordan inside the powerplay. Despite the two wickets, LSG found them on the right track as Marcus Stoinis bestowed hopes in the chase. He stuck around for quite some time, taking on the MI attack and scoring 40 off 27. But the irony was that the Hulk failed to gain support from the other end. Although Hrithik Shokeen was blown away for 18 runs in an over, Piyush Chawla controlled things with his experience.

Akash Madhwal was the wreaker in chief in the second innings, claiming his maiden fifer in the glitterati league. What was meant to be a spinner's paradise yielded into productivity in excess for the pacers. It is also worth mentioning that the Ambani-owned franchise was extraordinary in the field today. They enforced three run-out on this day with Marcus Stoinis being one of the victims. Although, it was due to poor communication between Stoinis and Hooda.

Mumbai Indians have glittered the tournament with some great team effort with the passage of time. They will be yearning to get one step ahead and replicate their acts in Qualifier 2.

Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony.
Hitesh: Take a bow Akash Madhwal.... He is another star in the making for Mumbai Indians. What an exceptional spell he has bowled today. He gets his fifth wicket, he gave just 5 runs in his 3.3 overs spell.
16.3 A Madhwal to M Khan
W WICKETTT!!! Salute to the Engineer! Five wickets for Akash Madhwal. Five wickets for Five Runs in 3.3 overs!!!!! What a dream spell, the best figures of IPL 2023 and are the best figures in an IPL playoff. Just stand and admire. Around the wicket. Fuller-length delivery infact a low full toss on the off-stump line. Mohsin stays leg side of the ball and misses to bring the bat down in time. The ball sneaks in to clatter the stumps. Madhwal is now a household name not only in Mumbai but also across India. Mumbai win by 81 runs and now reach Qualifier-2 and will face Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad!
Akash Madhwal loses his run-up and walks back to reload it.
16.2 A Madhwal to N ul
1 Length ball angling into the stumps. With a straight bat, Naveen defends but gets an inside edge towards mid-wicket for a single is off the mark.
