Just as TRK looked down and out, Saim’s poorly executed scoop shot saw Russell taking a cracking return catch. Yet, Azam Khan joined Hope in the middle and the pair released the pressure with some maximums. Eventually, Ali Khan removed Hope in the 17th over but it was too late by then. The American pacer delayed the inevitable by dismissing Shimron Hetmyer in the penultimate over but Azam smashed a maximum off Russell to wrap up the game with balls to spare
What a cracking chase from Guyana as they continue to remain as the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Chasing 173 for victory, Guyana didn’t get off to a great start as Chandrapaul Hemraj flicked a harmless delivery from Russell straight to Pooran at deep backward square-leg in the third over. The pair of Saim Ayub and Shai Hope saw through the Powerplay without any more damage but the asking rate increased to more than 9.5 runs per over.
However, the young Saim stepped on the accelerator to help Guyana fetch 14 runs off the seventh and eighth overs. At the other end, Hope struggled to get a move on with him particularly struggling against Waqar Salamkheil. Hope lived dangerously with a miscued slog-sweep evading the long-on fielder while Lorcan Tucker fumbled a stumping opportunity too in the 13th over. Saim reached his maiden CPL fifty and also benefited in Waqar’s over as Pooran tipped the ball over the fence at long-on to gift a maximum.
