2:07 AM (IST), 9:38 PM (Local Time): So that’s that and it’s the Birmingham Bears that have secured the win by 4 runs!
Batting first, the Bears put up an above decent first innings total of 180/7 from 20 overs.
Although skipper Alex Yates was dismissed cheaply for 15 (9) by Matthew Revis, the duo of Rob Yates and Chris Benjamin managed to add a quickfire 60 run stand that kept things going for their side.
Benjamin played the role of an aggressor courtesy his 45 (27), which contributed six fours, a six and a strike rate of 166.66. Meanwhile, Rob Yates anchored his way through as he remained right till the end with a score of 66 (51).
Australian international Glenn Maxwell also tonked a few as he struck a breezy 21 (10). The rest of the batters didn’t have much to offer as Yorkshire kept chipping in with the wickets at regular intervals.
Matthew Revis did well with his spell of 2/36 from four overs, meanwhile, David Wiese, Jordan Thompson and Dom Bess chipped in with a wicket apiece.
As for the run chase, it started off in an underwhelming manner for Yorkshire. Dawid Malan did manage to strike a four and a six early on in the innings but failed to take the momentum forward as he was sent back by Glenn Maxwell for 13 (7). James Wharton was the next man to fall for 4 (4) as edged one to first slip during Chris Woakes’ over.
With the score being at 37-2 from 4 overs, Yorkshire needed a partnership to stabilize the innings. Adam Lyth and Sham Masood did try to consolidate in the middle but could only string 39 runs together before Lyth got dismissed to Dan Mousley for 34 (32).
Shan Masood was left bamboozled by Jake Lintott as he failed to pick the slider and was bowled at 21 (17).
However, it was then the duo of Jordan Thompson and Matthew Revis who showed a bit of character and resistance courtesy a 54 run partnership. Thompson stormed his way through 34 (20) but was eventually dismissed by one of the all time great catches that was taken by Jacob Bethell at long on.
One has to say, that had that catch not been taken by Bethell in Dan Mousley’s over to dismiss the dangerous Thompson, then Yorkshire would have well been in contention of going over the finish line.
As for Matthew Revis, he was sent back to the hut by Chris Woakes for 32 (21) after handing one to the fielder at deep square leg.
Dom Bess 10 (3) and David Wiese 20 (9) did add some spice towards the final few overs with some massive hits, but it was too little too late for them as the Bears registered the win.
Dan Mousley was the star of the show as he bowled a spectacular spell of 4/28 from his four overs. Chris Woakes proved to be reliable as well with his 2/22 from four. Glenn Maxwell and Jake Lintott also got into the act with a wicket apiece.
That being said, we were all entertained with some great batting, bowling and fielding on display that got us to the edge of our seats.
