01:45 AM IST| That is it...... Middlesex gets so close to the victory but once again fails to get over the line. They lose their 8th consecutive match this season and are yet to open their winning account. Sussex Sharks held their nerves and have won this encounter by 4 runs.

Earlier in the game, Sussex Sharks won the toss and elected to bat first. They didn't get off to the desired start as they lost a couple of early wickets. Skipper Ravi Bopara and Shadab Khan steered the ship for the Sharks after getting a couple of early blows. This pair stitched a partnership of 91 runs for the 4th wicket. Shadab Khan departed after scoring 59 runs.

The wickets started tumbling down for Sharks in the death overs and they ended up scoring 181 runs in the 20 overs. Skipper Ravi Bopara chipped in with 38 runs. James Coles played a quick short cameo of 21* runsLuke Hollman and Ryan Higgins scalped a couple of wickets each for Middlesex.

While chasing a stiff target of 182 runs, Middlesex lost an early wicket but Stephen Eskinazi and Pieter Malan held the fort in the middle. They started scoring at a brisk rate in the powerplay. At the end of the powerplay, Middlesex were 1 down for 60 runs. This duo bonded a partnership of 85 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pieter Malan fell prey to skipper Ravi Bopara after scoring 36 runs off 29 balls.

In the middle overs, the boundaries started draining out for Middlesex and the required run rate was piling up. But the credit goes to the skipper Eskinazi he didn't panic and just kept rotating the strike along with Max Holden. Once the pacers came into the attack, both the batters took charge. 43 runs were required of the last 4 overs and the dice was on the Middlesex's side. Max Holden (18 runs off 12 balls) departed in the 17th over.

Jack Davies joined the skipper in the middle. Jack came with all guns blazing and was swatting the boundaries for ease. He played a short cameo of 19 runs in 10 balls.12 runs were required off the final over. Middlesex lost a wicket on the first ball of the last over and were put under pressure straight away.

It went all down to the wire and 5 runs were needed off the last ball. Credit goes to Tymal Mills as he bowled beautifully and defended 12 runs in the last over, on the last ball Eskinazi failed to connect it and Sussex Sharks won the encounter. Stephen Eskinazi remained unbeaten on 94* off 62 balls, he played a magnificent innings but failed to take his team over the line.

Nathan McAndrew was the pick of the bowlers for the Sharks as he scalped a couple of wickets. Ravi Bopara, Tymal Mills and Fynn Hudson-Prentice got a wicket apiece.
