9:52 PM IST | What a nail-biter we got to witness at Canterbury as Surrey steals a victory from the jaws of defeat in one of the oldest rivalries of County.

Jamie Smith and Sean Abbott are the saviors as they tailored 68 runs from the last 39 balls of the match and turned the tables at the last moment. After a commendable start from openers- Laurie Evans and Will Jacks (30 off 21), the scorecard saw 76-0. It was that moment when Joe Denly outwitted Jacks and broke the shackles.

Sam Curran joined in and departed without impacting much. Evans (52 off 36) went on to notch a half-century while a couple of wickets fell from the other end. George Linde got the better of Ben Foakes and Evans in the same over (12th) and Tom Curran followed their part soon. Just when the match was tilted in the favor of the Spitfires, Smith and Abbott denied their attempt. Both batters were careful at the start and rebuilt the castle slowly and steadily.

Smith (49* off 29) spanked two consecutive biggies off Stewart in the 18th over and changed the complexion of the game. The deficit was narrowed and an impressive 19th over meant 9 runs were needed from the ultimate over. Michael Hogan had the uphill task cut out in front and he almost nailed it.

A four off the penultimate delivery of the innings helped Surrey equal the score and a dropped catch at the close-up of point in the next delivery meant, Surrey snatch a victory at Canterbury.

Earlier, Kent won the toss and opted to bat first. There were no major partnerships during the first innings, but the middle and lower middle order batters contributed significantly to the total. Will Jacks was the early wreaker, taking the first three wickets. Two of these were extracted inside the powerplay.

Joe Denly came in, hit a couple of boundaries, and eventually extinguished. Sam Billings, who came in at number four, looked unsteady initially but adjusted soon to establish a 40-run partnership with Jordan Cox. At the slog overs, Jack Leaning and George Linde did the job, getting some lusty blows off the bat and propelling the innings past the 170-run mark. Will Jacks took three wickets, while Sunil Narine took two.
