That's it from Match 67 of the Indian Premier League 2023 which has seen Chennai Super Kings qualify for the playoffs with a commanding win over Delhi Capitals. Switch tabs to watch the next game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants from Eden Gardens Kolkata. We will catch you there. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu and AkshayaKrishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Ruturaj Gaikwad: "Obviously, important game. As you said, it was an important game and we had to win it. It makes it more special for me to play this knock in my 50th game. Such a great franchise to be part of and I am glad for the support they give me. The wicket was holding up a bit and with shorter straight boundaries compared to that of square boundaries, I was aiming over the bowler's head. In Chennai, there are longer boundaries and you need to rotate the strike more than hitting the ropes. With Shivam Dube, Jaddu and Mahi Bhai still left in the dugout, I went hard once I was well set. Yeah, Conway is a great partner to be batting with. I am happy to open alongside him. He has improved a lot from the last season. It is difficult to adjust to Chepauk and he has done pretty well. He now knows how to play here in India. Always speaks about which opposition bowler to take down and whom to play out. I am grateful for him."
Player of the Match: Ruturaj Gaikwad
MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): "Well, I think there is no recipe. Pick the best players and see how they perform. Groom them where they are strong and work on those areas. The management and support staff have been great and everything coming together is important.

The players are important and so are the management. When it comes to death bowling, confidence is a factor. Tushar is more confident. How you execute all comes to confidence. Behind the scenes a lot of things are done behind the scenes. Pathirana is a natural and Tushar has come a long way I feel.

One thing is a bit difficult to find out here is team first. Not worried about team performance. We need those characters and what we see is we have a happy environment. We want to improve in the areas to work and see how it goes. We always strive to improve in the areas that we want to and hope to do better in the coming games."
Active Catch of the Match: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Longest Six Hit in the Match: Ravindra Jadeja (98m)
Most Fours Hit in the Match: Devon Conway
Most Valuable Asset of the Match: Devon Conway
Game Changer of the Match: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Electric Striker of the Match: Devon Conway

Deepak Chahar (Chennai Super Kings): "Yes thank you so much. It was an important match for us. We needed a win and we needed a big win, happy that we got that. Looks like a 160-wicket. Our batters did a tremendous job scoring runs. Both the openers batted brilliantly and took the total past 220 which is more than enough on this pitch. In Chennai, it is very hot and the same goes here in Delhi as well. We get a lot of sweats and I personally get the sweat too much. It becomes difficult to grip the slower ones. I was getting the sweat on my hands and it was difficult to grip them. Deshpande has been one of the rising stars for us. He trusts his stock ball when nothing goes his way. He has improved a lot. When someone bowls at this angle (Pathirana's slingy arm) it becomes difficult to pick as a batter and that is his strength."
David Warner (Delhi Capitals Captain): "Look, to be honest, we didn't execute with the ball. I have been speaking it all season that if we don't pitch it on the correct lengths we are gonna get thrashed. There were some positives: we weren't too bad with the ball; with the bat, we didn't form partnerships; we lost wickets in groups; we suffered some painful losses; we'll need to examine these areas and improve for next season. Since we have received some of these wickets this season, we cannot keep blaming them. No matter how challenging the circumstances are, we must adapt. You must adhere to your game plan, hit the boundaries, and counter-spin with your feet. No bowler can be slowed down, so partnerships would have been useful. You need to have a strong strike rate to give yourself a chance, so I want to be consistent at the top of the order, but we kept losing wickets in the first six overs and this is the main area which we need to counter in the next season."
7:16 PM IST: A commanding performance from the Chennai Super Kings as they have outplayed the Delhi Capitals in all departments of the game to win by 77 runs to qualify for the playoffs. They have 17 points and only time will tell whether they finish in the top2. A brilliant performance from MS Dhoni and his boys.

Chasing a mammoth 224 for the win, Delhi Capitals never got going as they lost Prithvi Shaw, Phil Salt, and Rilee Rossouw early. It was the lone hand from David Warner that kept Delhi going as he scored a masterful 86 off 58 balls but hardly got support from the other end. Yash Dhull scored 13 while Axar Patel scored 15 off 8 balls. But that was never going to be enough as DC ended with 146/9 in 20 overs with the help of 11 extras given by the fielding side.

All the Chennai Super Kings bowlers bowled well. Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/22 in 4 overs. He was ably supported by Matheesha Pathirana who finished with figures of 2/22 in 4 overs. Maheesh Theekshana got two wickets in the end as he ended with 2/23 in 4 overs. A wicket for Tushar Deshpande who finished with figures of 1/26 in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was taken to the cleaners as he went for 50 runs in 4 overs including 23 in his final over.

Earlier in the game, it was the Devon Conway-Ruturaj Gaikwad show when CSK won the toss and elected to bat first. The duo shared an amazing 141-run stand for the first wicket in 14.3 overs when Gaikwad fell for a brilliant 79 off 50 balls. A welcome return to form for Gaikwad. Devon Conway continued his merry ways as he scored 87 off 52 balls and held the innings together. Cameos from Shivam Dube (22* off 9), and Ravindra Jadeja (20* off 7) powered Chennai Super Kings to 223/3 after 20 overs with 10 extras given by the fielding side.

A wicket apiece for Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, and Chetan Sakariya. Khaleel went the distance while the spinners went for a lot of runs today which upset DC's plans today. They were ineffective to say the least.

A convincing win for CSK over DC by 77 runs as they qualify for the playoffs for the record 12th time ever. A great performance from the Men in Yellow. Stick around for the presentations.

0 Huge appeal and given out by the umpire! Triple wicket maiden! Good length delivery on the stumps. Sakariya misses the punch off the back foot on the inside edge and gets hit on the pads. The batter sends it upstairs as he reviews it. Fair delivery. No bat is involved. Again this is pitched outside leg and the batter survives. So it will stay as a maiden over but not as a triple wicket. Instead, it is a double wicket maiden over. CSK win it as they become the second team to make it to the playoffs this season.
