Milestone
That's it from our side as another last ball thriller in the Indian Premier League comes to an end. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshaya Krishna and Megh Mandaliya and scorer Paras Yadav. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
R Ashwin (Player of the Match): "I surprise people I guess. Sometimes I am sent up to bat and people are surprised that he has promoted himself in the order, he just took it upon himself but that's a role given to me. We lost Sanju, I was expected to just go and play there. I am far better judging my pace, when I want to go and not in a hurry like I really used to be before so taking a few balls. I want to be there, understand the situation and then utilize my strengths. I have my own strengths if I try to overcome my weaknesses a lot that is when I really succumb.

In every batting innings, I am padded up right from the start. So I don't know when I am going and when I am asked to go. That's not preferably a role a batsman would enjoy but I am okay with it because I don't get to bat very often so I'm happy.

Its lot more mental I guess. I've been bowling really well. I came in from a good Test form. In between I was hurrying through the crease bit more, not getting enough drop, not getting the ball to work for me so I just feel like I'm getting the length right able to drop the ball, change the pace. Usually I work really hard during the IPL. I've just taken a backseat and the bowling is taking care of itself.

When I was playing in Mohali for the Kings team, the wicket and the ground demanded something. I'd like to think after playing so many years, I probably guess and gauge what needs to be done there and I go with it because success or failure it must be on my terms."
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals Captain): "I think we have to give credit to the boys. Chasing that sort of a score, in this sort of ground with the dew factor around. The guys kept their cool. Almost every bowler contributed really well. Everyone was involved and wanted to win this game against CSK. We wanted to go back with happy memories and I have never had a happy memory at Chepauk. But really happy with the effort.

The ball was stopping a bit. The ball was gripping and we decided to bring Zampa in as our impact player. We knew if we can go past the powerplay, we can get back in the game. You never feel you have the upper hand in the contest. The match is not over till the last ball. We knew what MSD can do in the middle. I do a lot of planning and a lot of research with our data team. But a lot of calls have been taken inside the ground considering the situation of the match. A lot of thoughts are going around. Nothing works for MS Dhoni."
Active Catch of the Match: Sandeep Sharma
Longest Six Hit in the Match: Jos Buttler (93m)

Electric Striker of the Match: MS Dhoni
11:41 PM IST | Time for the post-match presentations...
R Ashwin is the player of the match.
Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals): "In the first half the way Jaddu bhai was bowling, the ball was gripping. In the second half there was some dew and I didn't want to give easy deliveries and I had to vary my pace.

This is my 2nd season with Ash anna. Before that we have played together so we have a good bonding. Zamps have always done good for the Australian team and was the player of the match in the last Australia series. We share stuff amongst each other in the nets about how to bowl and talk between the match as well.

Self belief is very important when Mahi bhai is batting. In the last over Sandy backed himself with his yorker and didn't concede runs.

Such wins impact the side. When it goes till the end and you get to know the effort needed especially when the best finisher is batting and you win against him then its a different momentum. Such games boost you up for the next matches."
Sandeep Sharma (Rajasthan Royals): "I just wanted to execute the yorkers in the last overs. I am bowling good yorkers in the nets and I tried to bowl yorkers at the heel. But it turned out to be low full tosses and it went for maximums. Thereafter, I decided to change my plans and went around the wicket. I tried to bowl yorkers to Jadeja from over the wicket and wanted to change angles for Mahi bhai as he smashed me for two maximums from the other angle."
Yuzvendra Chahal gets the purple cap (10 wickets)
MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): "I think in the middle we lost the game. We need a bit more runs, we needed to rotate the strike much better in the middle overs. We can't be playing that many dot balls as we played tonight. Once the set batters were there we needed to be more proactive. If the pitch is gripping and turning square, then I can understand. But it wasn't troubling that much. The new batters could come and stroke properly. The batters should take responsibility for tonight's loss. It affects the net run rate in the last phase of the tournament. Hence taking a risk in the early phase would have had a different result.

You look at the field, at the bowler, and at what the bowler is trying to do, and then you just stand there and wait for them to make a mistake; if they bowl in good areas, good luck to them. I would wait for it, and that has worked for me; you need to back your strength, and my strength is hitting straight. There was some dew, and once the ball reached the outfield, the batters found it easier. Overall, I was pleased with the bowlers. They bowled well.

I didn't really know that it was my 200th game as CSK captain. And it doesn't matter as well. What is the difference between 199 and 200? It doesn't really matter in the end. I took it as a normal game. Yeah, nice to tick the milestones along. It is all about how you are performing and what are the results."
11:22 PM IST: Another last ball thriller in the Indian Premier League as the Rajasthan Royals manage to score just 3 more runs than the Chennai Super Kings to deposit their first victory at the Chepauk Stadium. Sandeep Sharma, the experienced swing bowler kept his calm in the final over to defend 21 runs.

A poor outing with the bat from the CSK middle order had Jadeja and Dhoni under the pump to deliver the goods in the final 3 overs but the target was a bit too far from the men in yellow's grasp. Excellent composure from Sandeep as he missed his lines and length in the first 3 balls but did well to defend later.

Quick recap to the game as Rajasthan Royals posted 175/8 in their 20 overs failing to bank on the good start provided by Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal after MS Dhoni won the toss in his 200th match as CSK captain and opted to bowl first. Padikkal was promising in the second-wicket partnership with Jos Buttler, which had 77 runs added to the tally.

While it looked like RR was dominating in the middle, Ravindra Jadeja initiated a CSK comeback by scalping Padikkal (38 off 26) and Sanju Samson (0 off 2) in the same over to reduce the Pink Army to 88/3 in the 9th over. Ashwin (30 off 22) clubbed a couple of lusty blows to CSK debutant Akash Singh before being the young seamer’s maiden IPL wicket.

Before getting out for 52 Buttler completed 3000 IPL runs. Hetmyer (30* off 18) fired a few boundaries in the slog overs to take the team to a competitive score. For CSK, Jadeja was the successful bowler picking two wickets in his full quota going for just 21 runs as pacers Akash Singh and Deshpande scalped a couple of wickets.

CSK didn't get a tidy start as their top scorer Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed early in the 3rd over for just 8. Ajinkya Rahane (31 off 19) batting at number 3 carried his good form from the previous game and added 68 runs with Devon Conway for the second wicket.

Wickets kept tumbling as the RR spinners dominated with Ashwin getting the prized wicket of Rahane for the 5th time in IPL history. Moeen Ali had a forgettable day in the field getting out for 7 with impact player Ambati Rayudu getting out second ball.

Conway was the 6th to depart trying to up the ante and finished at 50 in 38 balls. Jadeja and skipper MS Dhoni then joined forces to give the finishing touches. The spinners Ashwin (2/25), Chahal (2/27) and Zampa (1/43) finished their respective spells by the end of 18 overs with the equation being 40 in 12 balls.

Jadeja hit a couple of sixes and a four in the over bowled by Holder to bring the equation down at 21 in the final over. Sandeep Sharma started the final over with a couple of wides under pressure bringing the equation to 19 off 6 and then 19 off 5 with a tremendous yorker but Dhoni got better of him and smashed the 2nd and 3rd deliveries of the over for a sixes.

Sharma turned the game around conceding just 3 singles bowling brilliant yorkers to win the game for RR in the final over when 5 runs were needed off the final ball. Sandeep finished with 1/30 with Kuldeep Sen making his comeback in competitive cricket after December 2022 bowling a tidy 2-over spell conceding just 8 runs off it.

Stay tuned for the post match festivities.

He does! Sandeep Sharma delivers as he manages to bowl under the bat of MSD from round the wicket. Sandeep Sharma and RR hold their nerve to clinch a thriller. Thala couldn't provide his fans something they love to watch, something they came to watch What a game!
19.6 S Sharma to M Dhoni
1 Sandeep Sharma has done it for Rajasthan Royals! He delivered an exceptional yorker under pressure and the visitors will bag two points. Dhoni clears his front leg but he only manages to drill that towards deep mid-wicket for a run. Rajasthan Royals have won a game at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium against Chennai Super Kings for the first time since 2008. Another nail-biting finish in the IPL.
