That's it from us for this game. Do join us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of scorer Paras Yadav. Tata. Bye Bye.
Hayley Matthews (Hero of the Match): "When we walked out to bat, we knew it was a good surface to bat on and we decided to post a good total on the board as we knew they will come out hard in the chase. It’s a great feeling to get the win after two miserable seasons. We have played positive cricket and that was the difference today. When I came in to bowl the last over, I really didn’t know how many I have to defend. I just knew what I had to bowl."

10:10 PM IST, 5:40 PM Local Time: PHEWW!!! What a game we just witnessed. The Welsh Fire Women held their nerves and emerged victorious in a thriller of a contest. They beat the Southern Brave Women by four runs to grab their first win of the Women's Hundred 2023. This is the first-ever loss for the Southern Brave Women at The Rose Bowl in the history of the competition.

Chasing 166 was always going to be a stiff task. The Southern Brave got off to a wonderful start, thanks to Danielle Wyatt and Smriti Mandhana. They made full use of the fielding restrictions and found regular boundaries. Wyatt brought up her fifty and kept Welsh Fire Women at bay. Wyatt and Mandhana stitched a 96-run opening stand between them before Wyatt holed out in the deep after scoring 67 off just 37 balls. Her knock comprised 10 fours and two maximums.

Mandhana stepped on the accelerator post-Wyatt’s departure and kept finding regular boundaries. She was the lone fighter for the Brave Women and took the game deep. With nine required from the last set, Hayley Matthews held her nerves and denied the Welsh Fire the victory. Mandhana was on strike for the last ball and they needed five for the victory but some smart bowling from Matthews resulted in the Brave Women falling short by four runs.

Mandhana remained unbeaten on 70 off 42 balls and took her side to touching distance but failed to take them across the line. Alex Griffiths bowled beautifully for Welsh Fire Women. She picked up two wickets, giving away 26 runs in her 20 balls. Hayley Matthews finished with figures of 1/35 as they completed a good win over the Southern Brave Women.

Earlier, the Welsh Fire Women were asked to bat first. Hayley Matthews and skipper Tammy Beaumont gave them a blazing start as they played some fantastic shots. The Southern Brave bowlers had no answers to the onslaught from the Welsh Fire openers. They put fifty between them in no time and scored at a brisk rate. Beaumont fell on 26 as the 80-run opening stand came to an end.

Matthews continued her merry way as she brought up her fifty in no time. Laura Harris was promoted to number three and she played a fantastic cameo of 20 off 7 balls. Matthews hit 13 fours before departing on a 38-ball 65. Contributions from Sarah Bryce (21*) and Georgia Elwiss (28*) helped them post 165 at the end of their innings. The Southern Brave bowlers struggled to keep a check on the scoring rate and only managed to pick three wickets.

96b Matthews to C Tryon
wdW Stumped. Cleverly bowled by Matthews. On seeing Tryon step out of the crease, she bowls it quicker and flatter well outside off, Tryon tries to reach out at it and looks to slog it but misses it completely. Bryce behind the stumps collects it cleanly and whips the bails in a flash to send back Tryon. Wide signaled by the umpire and Matthews is not happy with it.
