So this is a wrap from our side, concluding the presentation of the 13th match of PSL 2023 between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators.
Stay tuned with us for covering other cricketing actions around the globe. For now, this is Saptak Sanyal, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saipavan Janaki and our scorer Paras Yadav. Cheers and good night.
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United Captain): "I have never seen an inning(Azam's) like this, the way Azam played. This is a team game, some people have good days and some have bad. We tried to get the best combinations out in the middle, and we make changes every game because we rely heavily on matchups. Today, I came up with the order because the pitch was a bit tough early on. Special credit to my bowlers who all managed to keep an economy rate under 11 when nearly 400 runs were scored. Thanks"
Azam Khan (Player of the Match): "Yes,  one of the best knock and where we are 70/3 and the ball not getting the bat and really happy to contribute. It's all because of my dad he made me mentally strong and really happy and glad for that and thanks to him. I think he must be really happy but sad as well as his team lost. Really happy that I performed well. I think is all about the mindset and when I practice, will go for the big hittings and this is my game."
Sarfaraz Ahmed (Quetta Gladiators Captain): "Yes, (Azam) we didn't expect from him. Today he batted outstandingly well. I cannot praise it. I feel we strayed from our plans in the last four overs with the ball. I thought 180-190 was chasable but Azam was exceptional. When the pressure, we lost three early wickets and then we are always behind. We have a 4-5 day gap, we will sit back and discuss with the boys where things are going wrong. Hopefully, we can bounce back."
Asif Ali: "Congratulates to all team, we have the plan to see how the bowl coming to the bat and we executed the plan. We targeted the balls in our areas. At the start, I hit the loose delivery but Azam hit hard on the other end. This team was beautiful and unity was there. Shadab was good and played lots of games under his captaincy."
11:12 pm IST:- There it is! Azam Khan's brilliance with the bat and a great bowling display from Abrar Ahmed in the initial spell helped Islamabad United to seal the game.
Chasing 221, Quetta got some blow as their star openers Martin Guptill(0) and Jason Roy(5) fell cheaply. Later Will Smeed who struck Fazalhaq Farooqi in his second over, became Abrar's victim. But Mohammed Hafeez helped his team to recover with his big shots and scored a 26 ball 48 where Sarfaraz Ahmed stood firm and swept the United spinners.
But Hafeez was unable to complete his 50 and fell to Farooqi. After that, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Iftikhar Ahmed took their team forward with maintaining the run rate until Shadab Khan came to bowl the 16th over and dismissed Sarfaraz by trapping him in front. In the same over, Mohammed Nawaz(1) also departed cheaply. Big hitter Odean Smith was unable to deliver as per his potential and went back without disturbing the scoreboard.
With 7 wickets falling, it was tough for Iftikhar to help his team go home and when 64 was needed off 10, his slog went to the long off fielder to terminate his 39 run innings. Naseem Shah looked to slog the next ball and departed with his stumps broken. And in the first ball of the 19th over, Farooqi removed Mohammed Hasnain to mark the 63 run win for his team.
Earlier coming to bat, when Islamabad United lost wickets at regular interval and then Azam Khan and Asif Ali contributed well for the team. Ali scored 24 ball 42 with a boundary and four sixes to ensure Azam gets time to free his arms and after his departure, Azam Khan turned more violent and smashed Gladiator's bowlers here and there to help his team cross 200. Faheem Ashraf also contributed healthy with his 6 ball 17 run cameo. It was unfortunate that Azam's innings ended on 97 as he got bowled out in the very last ball of the innings.
