They have thwarted Rangpur Riders by 19 runs in the second qualifier, and the Mashrafe Mortaza-led Sylhet Strikers will now lock horns with Comilla Victorians in the BPL 2023 Final.
Rangpur Riders were at 68/3 at 8.3 overs when Nurul Hasan entered the fray. The right-hander swatted 33(24) and stitched a much-needed partnership of 82 runs with Rony Talukdar and created a slender chance but it was Tanzim Hasan Sakib who brought the Sylhet Strikers back into the game by dismissing Nurul Hasan.
Following Hasan's wicket, the Rangpur Riders required 32 from the last 17 balls and the target proved a little easy for Rony Talukdar and Dasun Shanaka to chase down But Rony Talukdar got run out and the scenario was changed. Nonetheless, Rony Talukdar orchestrated a scintillating 66(52), including 7 fours and 2 maximums, and Dasun Shanaka scored 10(9). Luke Wood was the pick of the bowlers as he extracted 3 wickets, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rubel Hossain shared a couple of wickets each.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Sylhet Strikers posted 182 runs in 20 overs. They got a decent start as they scored 44 runs without any wickets in the powerplay. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top contributor for Sylhet Strikers, as he scored 40 runs off 30 balls, while Mashrafe Mortaza scored 28 off 16 balls.
In pursuit of a hefty total of 183, Rangpur Riders started on the worst possible note as the key man Sam Billings departed on the first ball of the 2nd over of the inning. That was soon followed by Shamim Hossain 14(11), who was outplayed by Rubel Hossain.
