Milestone
That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Keep following us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Wali Parvez and scorer Zeeshan Naiyer. Tata. Bye Bye.
Nasir Hossain (Dhaka Dominators Skipper): "I’m pleased and relieved with this performance. Did expect us to give such performances in the past as well but it didn’t click. It was not easy because the top order folded in all the other games, but in today’s game they stood out and provided us with the platform. I was confident that if we played out 20 overs that we would win and that is exactly what happened."
Mohammad Mithun (Player of the Match): "First of all, thanks to Allah. I was looking to score runs. Thanks to the coaching staff for sending me up the order. We haven't got the expected results. We lost close matches. So we will look to be at our best in the remaining games."
Player of the Match: Mohammad Mithun
Shakib Al Hasan (Fortune Barishal Skipper): "The wicket was pretty good to bat on. We couldn't put enough runs on the board and we didn't bowl well. In all three departments, we were not up to the mark today. We were not in the game. We had to play well to win and we didn't perform today. As long as we are winning, it's fine. We have to sit down and discuss before we come out for the next game."
04:16 PM IST | Akshay: That’s the end of this fixture. Dhaka Dominators beat Fortune Barishal comprehensively by five wickets. This is only their third win of this year’s competition and they move to the fifth spot in the points table. Fortune Barishal were outplayed today as they suffer their third loss in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023.

The Dominators got off to a blistering start in the chase of 157. Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun took on the charge and played aggressively right from ball one. Both put 55 between them at the end of the powerplay. The Barishal’s bowlers didn’t have any answers to his onslaught from the Dominators’ openers. Karim Janat was brought into the attack and he dismissed Sarkar on 37 in his very first over.

There was no stopping Mithun as he continued playing his strokes from the other end. He brought up his fifty but was dismissed soon on 54. Abdullah Al Mamun II hit a couple of lusty blows before departing on 26. Skipper Nasir Hossain remained unbeaten on 20 to take his side across the line with seven balls to spare. Shakib Al Hasan and Sunzamul Islam picked up two wickets each with the ball for Barishal but it wasn’t enough as they failed to defend the total.

Earlier, Fortune Barishal skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. Anamul Haque looked good at the top of the order but lacked support from the other end. There were no healthy contributions from the middle-order batters as the Dominators kept chipping with regular wickets in the middle overs.

Haque was joined by Mahmudullah Riyad in the 11th over. Both started building a partnership for the fifth wicket before Haque departed on 42. Mahmadullah took his time to settle in and teed off in the end. He hit some lusty blows in his knock of 39 to power the Fortune Barishal to 156/7 at the end of their 20 overs. Each of the Dominators’ bowlers picked up at least a wicket, with Amir Hamza finishing with two. Stick around for the post-match presentation.

17.4 Hasan to A Haque
W BOWLED'EM! Two in one over for Shakib! Gives the ball some air, pitches it at off, Ariful tries to block that on the front foot but the ball passes through him as it crashes onto the stumps. Seems too little - too late at this point.
17.3 Hasan to N Hossain
1 Pulls his length, pitches it at middle and that's been worked away towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
17.2 Hasan to A Haque
1 Strays it down leg and Ariful sweeps that towards short fine leg for one.
