Milestone
That’s it from the coverage of India vs Sri Lanka's second One-Day International(ODI), with the former securing a 4-wicket win sealing the series 2-0. We will now move all the way down south to Thiruvananthapuram for the third and final ODI of the series. Until then, this is AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu and Ayan Chatterjee, who, alongside our scorers/analysts Zeeshan Naiyer and Chandan Kr Singh, brought you all the live-action of this fixture. Good night folks!
Kuldeep Yadav (Player of the Match): "I mean, I am happy with my performances. Whenever I get an opportunity, I always try to give my best. I don't think much; instead, I keep it simple and stick to my strengths. I try to bowl on the right areas and get the batters to ponder about it. At the moment, I am enjoying my game. However, it all comes down to the team's combination. You need to vary your paces in order to outfox the batters. See, when Wanindu Hasaranga hits you for a few boundaries, you can't stick to one pace. You need to vary the pace to get better off the batters. I am really working hard with the bat as well. If I am not around on the Indian side, I will always go to NCA for the training and drills. Thanks to the NCA staff for getting me ready. Yuzvendra Chahal always supports you. He is an amazing guy. Well, I will have a fun activity with Chahal now."
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "Yes, I thought it was a close game. Games like these teach a lot. It was not easy batting out there. Batting depth helped. KL batting at 5 is great for us and Hardik as well. They have done well before as experienced players. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We would have loved to have a left-hander, but I don't look at it this way. These guys have done well last year and we have quality right-handers.

Maybe, I don't know. Haven't thought about it. Need to go there, look at the pitch and make calls with long cricket ahead of us. The 3 ODIS against New Zealand and the long home season. If need be, we will make changes.  Kuldeep has been fantastic. He got us back in the game. Nuwanidu and Kusal were batting well and he did his job. His performance augurs well for our team going forward."
Game Changer of the Match Award goes to Mohammed Siraj.
Trusted Player of the Match Award goes to KL Rahul.
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): "Yeah, we were there in the game. Of course, we didn't have too many runs to defend, and that's where we lost. We threw away the good start and didn't set a big total. We needed to post a big total after the start we had earlier. Anything above 300 would have been good. But that's the nature of playing on a tough pitch. Our batters didn't play well in the second half. The bowlers were good in patches, but the score wasn't there to defend. Kuldeep bowled really well and put us under pressure. The fact that the ball was moving gave us a chance. I told the fast bowlers to keep it simple and bowl the ball. Credits to them, and we will try to improve."
9:17 PM IST | After a laser light show, we are now ready for the post-match presentations.
With this loss, Sri Lanka go past India in the list of most ODI losses. While India lost 436 ODIs, Sri Lanka have now lost 437 ODIs.
KL Rahul: "I mean I won't say it was a flat wicket. It was a sporty wicket. I felt it was a 280-300 wicket. I think there was some spongy bounce. Our bowlers bowled well to keep us in the game. That was the difference. It was an easy chase. But they started well and kept the pressure on us. The partnership with Shreyas, Hardik and Axar helped. So, a good satisfying win here. In Guwahati, we were batting first we had a different mindset and the bowlers bowl badly.  Last game I went in and had to up the ante. Today was different and had to soak in the pressure to win the game. The mindset was to play according to the situation. We didn't need to attack the spinners. One thing is I don't have to rush to bat. Can take it easy and have a good shower and play according to the situation. There is no set planning at 5. Go what the team needs is my mantra. That's been my mindset for the last 3-4 years. Here, you have to take on the spinners straightaway. That's the challenge and Rohit is very clear about me playing the role like this at 5. I am happy to play that role for the team. Thank You very much."

8:47 PM IST | So with that, India beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets to seal the series with a game in hand. The hosts have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series!

Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lankan openers Avishka Fernando and debutant Nuwanidu Fernando added 29 runs for the first. It was again Mohammed Siraj who gave India the first breakthrough dismissing Avishka (20 off 17) in the sixth over. Then Nuwanidu was joined by Kusal Mendis, stitching 73 runs for the second wicket.

When all looked bleak for India, it was Kuldeep Yadav who, on his comeback, broke the partnership with the wicket of Mendis (34 off 34) through a top spinner. And this is where the game turned on its head as the Lankan batting order collapsed. In the process, Nuwanidu became the sixth Lankan batter to score a debut ODI fifty. Soon after his half-century, Nuwanidu (50 off 63) was run-out, thanks to the miscommunication between him and Charith Asalanka.

The visitors lost wickets in clusters and were bundled out for just 215 in 39.4 overs. While the middle order didn’t contribute much, the lower order consisting of Wanindu Hasaranga (21 off 17), Dunith Wellalage (32 off 34), Chamika Karunaratne (17 off 25) and Kasun Rajitha (17* off 21) played some handy cameos to take the team’s total above 200.

From India’s point of view, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj were the successful bowlers with figures of 10-0-51-3 and 5.4-0-30-3, respectively. While Umran Malik scalped two wickets, Axar Patel got one wicket.

Chasing 216 runs to win, the Men in Blue got off to a brisk start of 33 runs inside five overs. But both Rohit Sharma (17 off 21) and Shubman Gill (21 off 12) got out in the span of four deliveries as the Island nation reduced the home side to 41/2.

Sri Lanka continued to squeeze India and got rid of Virat Kohli (4 off 9) and Shreyas Iyer (28 off 33). While Kohli was undone by Lahiru Kumara’s nip backer in the 10th over, Shreyas was trapped infront of the stumps by Kasun Rajitha in the 15th over.

At 86/4, it looked like India was on the back foot, but a fight-back partnership of 75 runs for the fifth wicket between KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya brought the match back to India’s court. It was Chamika Karunaratne who brought the Lankans back in the game with the wicket of Hardik (36 off 53) in the 34th over.

Then Axar Patel and Rahul added 30 runs for the sixth wicket, but Axar (21 off 21) holed out at long-off in the bowling of Dhananjaya de Silva. KL Rahul played responsibly for his 64 off 103 deliveries under pressure and took India home alongside Kuldeep Yadav (10 off 10) as the hosts chased down the target with 40 balls left.

For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne picked two wickets each, while Kasun Rajitha and Dhananjaya de Silva scalped a wicket each.

Stayed tuned for the presentations!
