Ravindra Jadeja (Player of the Match): "Perfect feeling for me. I was ready for the comeback and to perform for my team. I was working hard on my skills when I was in NCA (National Cricket Academy). I am really thankful to all the NCA staff for helping me out during my tough days. They even gave their Sundays to me by being with me during my practices. I am thankful for those NCA staff. There was rough. I didn't try too much. I kept bowling in there on the right lines and lengths. Some did turn, some went with the arm, and some of them kept low as well. I am always up for challenges. I like to be a proper batter as well. I got the opportunity and cashed on it. I like pressure situations. I was happy to overcome that. I will be trying not to change much on my batting, and it's a crucial position (batting at 5,6,7)."
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "Yeah, it was, considering a lot of the things -where we stand at the championship table. You know, when you play an important series like this, it is important to start well and happy to perform in it.
Yeah, was unfortunate to have missed a few Test matches. But happy to be back, play and do well for the team. I played two Test matches. After I became the captain, had missed two matches due to covid. Then I missed three matches due to injury. A freak thumb injury followed against Bangladesh. But I know how to come back after injuries as I have done it in the past.
To be honest, in the last few pitches we have been playing in India, you need to have a key plan. I have played a lot of matches here in Mumbai, in pitches where the ball turns a lot. I have started to think, what can threaten me, and trying to pan out my plans. Sometimes you need to be a little unorthodox, need to use the feet. You cannot allow the bowlers at one spot every time. Need to do something different. It is important to see what are your strengths, and what you can do. And I just go and try to do what I can do.
I think it is the first two overs from the seamers. 2-2 after a few overs, I think it was the ascendency. When you are two down in the start, the opposition feels down. We know our spinners are there, but the seamers have to be there to give the good start. I think, Shami and Siraj were brilliant with it. Our batters were brilliant in the first innings and we ended off well with the ball as well."

Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "Ahh... The game moves pretty quickly here in India sometimes. It's always going to be hard work for the batters, with the pitch taking a lot of turn. Rohit Sharma batted beautifully here, a class apart. We wanted to get more runs after opting to bat first. Probably a 100 more to that first-innings total. But unfortunately didn't get enough runs. Our batters tried to negate the spin, but they were too much for our batters. 3-4 batters got in, while some of the batters weren't really having any answer for those spinning balls, but we will be coming back strongly in the next one. Todd Murphy is a great youngster. He has been on our radar for nearly one year. Now he got the opportunity, and he showed what he has in him."

Firstly, I am happy for the batters who dug deep and batted long enough to keep them for more overs on the field. We batted well. And then, once the first wicket fell very early, I was in the game with full rhythm.
Ahh... I wanted to get out there and bat. I was suffocated sitting inside the dressing room for hours and hours. And I asked Pujara whether he wanted a cover through a nightwatchman, and he said yes with 20 minutes left in the day.
The wicket was on the slower side. So you want them to be driving. Hence I bowled on full-lengths. I was challenging the outside edge and, at the same time, the change-ups, challenging the other half of the edge as well. I have many variations but didn't try much here.
You know that Jadeja is good in all three fields; bat, ball and field. He moves swiftly on the field, bats like a proper batter and bowls superbly. He is a big asset, and you want him to be fit every time. Axar Patel also played his part.

2:21 PM IST | Arijit: So, India takes the 1-0 lead ✌️and the mind games seemed to have turned into reality for Australia. Hiring an Ashwin imitator didn’t yield sweet fruits as the report card of the first Test displays Australia sinking in the deep sea.
With a trial of 223 runs in the mind, Australia seemed to have succumbed to the added pressure. It was the Ashwin-Jaddu duo that fired clueless deliveries at the Aussie batters and they seemed nowhere near grit.
Wickets fell like nine pins for Australia with the opener Usman Khawaja inaugurating it. Skipper Rohit Sharma handed the new red cherry to Mohammed Shami and he extracted some lateral movements. The captain was quick to offer the ball to Ashwin and Jadeja and they did the job for India.
It was Ashwin who dismissed Khawaja and Jadeja followed it up by trapping Labuschagne plumb in front. Ashwin removed the pack of left-handed batters early on this day and it was just Steve Smith who was holding one side. From David Warner to Matt Renshaw, and Peter Handscomb to Alex Carey, everyone bowed down before the wittiness of Ashwin. The Tamil Nadu-based spinner was the pick of the bowlers in the third innings of play with a fifer to his name.
Shami was handed the half-worn cherry to clear the tail and he did the job superbly. An arm ball from Jadeja went through the gates of Smith when they were nine wickets down but it was called a no-ball due to overstepping the popping crease. But Shami did his job and trapped Boland in front of the pads and that summed up the day for the Aussies.
Earlier, Australia had chosen to bat first and could fetch only 177 runs on the board. Ashwin grabbed a three-fer and Jadeja finished off with a fifer. Marnus and Steve Smith were the only steady-looking batters but failed to convert. Handscomb and Carey had their own brisk contribution as well.
In return, India had built 400 runs in their own first innings and Rohit Sharma was the one to notch a century. Jadeja (70) and Axar (84) notched up half-centuries and boosted the total to the 400 runs mark. Shami played a superb cameo on the first session of Day 3 and assisted Axar for a long time. Todd Murphy was the star with the ball with a seven-wicket haul on his debut.
The third day of a Test match is known to be a moving day. But it moved way too much that India lost three wickets early morning and then Australia went bundled before Tea.

W GONE? Loud Appeal from Shami and the governing fielders. The onfield umpire raises his fingers. Length delivery, tails in a bit, and Boland is trapped on the front pad. The inside edge is missed and the ball bellows at the pads. A review has been taken by Australia. No bat involved as seen on Ultraedge. Pitching outside the off, impact in line and the wickets are umpires call on ball tracking. It is OUT and Shami has cleared the tail this time. Upright seam from the bowler and Australia are bundled for mere 91. India wins by an innings and 132 runs.
